Arms with cuffs?

Recommended Posts

Didn't want to post about this until I had my supply chain intact, but now orders are placed and arms are in the mail :D

Have any of you experimented with adding arms with cuff decoration to denote officer rank on imperials?

I ordered some of each of these and will post pics when they arrive.

For redcoats, toy soldier arms (gold bands) and captain hook arms (white): https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=981982pb017&idColor=5#T=S&C=5&O={"color":5,"iconly":0}

For dark blue redcoat navy, dark blue arms from ship captain: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=981982pb015&idColor=63#T=S&C=63&O={"color":63,"iconly":0}

For bluecoats, blue arms from bespin guard (brown) and donald duck (yellow): https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=981982pb002&idColor=7#T=S&C=7&O={"color":7,"iconly":0}

In general, I think the bespin guard might work well as a cavalry fig (with a different hat and epaulette): https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?M=sw0150#T=S&O={"iconly":0}

For greencoats, dark green arms from hoodie guy: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=981982pb153&idColor=80#T=S&C=80&O={"color":80,"iconly":0}

Great work so far! Any other colors?

Updated to include blue donald duck arms w/ goal cuffs. I didn't have much luck finding other colors with cuffs (brown, gray, etc). There are some white arms with gray cuffs: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=981982pb147&idColor=1#T=S&C=1&O={"color":1,"iconly":0}

Ended up using the Toy Soldier arms w/ gold stripes to denote officer ranks in my 26th foot MOCs and Ship Captain arms w/ gold decoration for naval ranks:

The only cuff I haven't successfully incorporated into a custom minifig yet is the Captain Hook red arm with white cuff:

I have a handful of these arm sets, but they so far have looked pretty cartoony when mixed with more detailed torsos.

Has anyone had any luck incorporating them into a cool minifig?

Trying out a new technique of starting with official TLG arms and then partially stripping away arm patterns to yield some new designs.

My current experiments are with these arms. I'll post again when I've stripped the arms!

Deadshot from Batman... could be cool redcoat arm ranks when partially stripped

Vidiyo dragon... could be regular arm cuffs for redcoats if stripped down to the bottom of the arm

Spider man arms... a red rank chevron on blue arms?

@evancelt While partially removing the print, how would you protect the part of the print which is intended to stay? Some masking tape? Any other idea?

I wouldn't attempt this with Brasso or some other solvent like that. Never have had very good luck keeping the solvents where I want them using tape or toothpicks.

Instead, I like to use erasers! They leave the surface good as new and don't involve chemicals.

Both large rectangular high polymer pencil erasers and electric erasers (used for art) do a good job. I think for this finer detail stuff, I'd opt for the electric eraser. The electric eraser is cheap on Amazon and is basically a lightweight handheld drill that accepts fine eraser tips.

Here is the result of one of my Deadshot arms after removing some of the pattern:

Seriously?!?!?!?!?! I will definitely try it on a couple of my childhood semi-destroyed, semi-sacrilegiously-custom painted figs to evaluate the results! If the eraser doesn't destroy the good old glossy look of the plastic (and turn it to mat), then we are good to go!

I'll touch it up a bit, but I think the Vidiyo dragon arms are going to work well for redcoat arms with cuffs once paired with a red torso and black accents
