[Sep FB1] Barracks, Port Woodhouse

Recommended Posts

The last couple of months have been tumultuous times in the brick seas; Imperial fleets invading sovereign nations, pirate fleets ravishing innocent settlements and the Lotii savages running amok in the New Haven Sea. In Port Woodhouse the army prepares for all possibilities. At this fortified barracks, soldiers stand guard in the tower while a column of line infantry march past in a rehearsal for the upcoming Queen's Birthday parade.

At the rear of the barracks, some off duty redcoats are being shown the intricacies of the unique rifled musket carried by the green coated members of the recently returned 60th Regiment of Foot, also known as the 'Royal Rangers'. A company of the 60th have been deployed to 'Gunpowder' island, where they have been conducting a savage campaign against the hostile natives there. The 60th are a 'light' regiment that fight as the light companies of line regiments do; that is in skirmish formation. The 60th, also known as the "Royal' or "Ayreshire Rangers". Specialise in woodland combat. Unique amongst Corlander regiments, they have recently exchanged their redcoats for a dark green coat and breeches and carry a rifled musket rather than the normal smoothbore. This slows their rate of fire but vastly improves their accuracy - something light troops value over volume of fire.

I think this may be my favourite build in this style so far (here is a link to my Port Woodhouse album if you are interested). Also I'm finally experimenting with large scale use of fleshies for my redcoats (much to Bregir's disgust I'm sure!). The green jackets are 95th rifles prints from ktownbricks and I had to get some when I first saw them, as it's a unit I've wanted to represent for a long time. Redcoat torsos are cheap Chinese clone brands that I've used several times before.

I love the blue!  It's a little overly textured but the color is a nice change to your usual presentation (not that your usual is bad, it's really good, but nice to see it spiced up!)

Even if they are Corries, that column looks sharp.  Great style on that building too!

Yeah, rrrrright... That's why they are marching... :pir_tong2:

Great build as always Ayrlego that somehow reminds me of the "Age of Empires" video game. The technique of the base in particular is the new "hot thing" these days and you absolutely nailed it!

Another great build! As usual the presentation and photography are once again top notch. The texture of the blue is somewhat distracting, but it's a really minor issue.

I love the building with the curved gables. The Port Woodhouse style has become so recognizable! The Ranger minifigs are top notch as well. Quite jealous of those .

We Corries are simply overjoyed that Our majesty the Queen has lived another year!  :innocent2:

Wow, this is great! Your architecture, as always, is such eye-candy. The old flag especially complements this build. The landscaping is also marvelous. Excellent job!

Also, 95th Rifles, yes! My favorite regiment of all time. It warms my heart to see them in brick!

Where to begin, so much to say, first, the terrain looks really good, I like the combination of tiles and plates, the well looks good too, and I'm impressed with the amount of details you incorporated in the barrack.

That is once again an absolutely stunning and marvellous creation.
And it adds a lot of depth to the BoBS world.

Excellent as usual @Ayrlego, I love the Character and realism of your builds. It adds a level of detail unparalleled on the Brick Seas.

The Green jackets look amazing, and I love how the ivy looks on the building, and the roof tiles.

If I could add two critiques, I don't like the clone brand torsos, I think they're a ok for troops that are kinda in the background, but to use them for every Corrish soldier doesn't jive it for me.

Second, I think you could have rounded the corners just a teeny bit more. it looks a little more square than I've seen in some of your other builds.

All in All though, amazing build!
