Technic 2021 Set Discussion

Recommended Posts

My plan for Technic 1H:

42116 Skid Steer: Rebuild. I have a spare clamshell bucket from 42043 Arocs B model.
42117 Plane: Rebuild in red. I have a spare pair of red taper panels from 42098 B. Also I'm not fond of the teal color.
42118 & 42119: Not gonna buy. Im not fond of pullbacks.
42120 Hovercraft: Definite buy. I like this set. Hopefully it's not gonna be cancelled because of the potential resemblance to a military rescue boat.
42121 Excavator: Buy or rebuild. I really like this set. I have a string of black tracks and spare buckets from 42055 B already. If it has some new part I'm gonna buy it.
42122 Jeep: Definite buy. I really like this set. I may get a bunch of tyres from bricklink for my 42053s and 42080s.
42123 Senna Mclaren. Definite buy. I really like this set.
42124 C+ Offroad: Not gonna buy. It's just another 42109. I got bored of 42109 after a week. At least 42109 looks cool to me. 42124 doesn't.
42125 Ferrari: Not really sure. Aside from the fact that photos arent available, I dont think it's gonna be any different from any of these cars I already own in terms of both car types and car functions. If it's different then maybe.

I'm tempted to see what kind of tires will 42124 have at the end ...

42116 looks like a JCB 260, so do it in yellow!

I've taken a look at my 42080, and unfortunately if the new tyres are any bigger, they might not fit the rear axles. There's little enough space between the current tyres.

Personally i think we might just see something more interesting then a 42096 reshell, 42111 already gave us something different for the $99 car set then previous years. Now i realize that a ferrari wont have a solid rear axle, so double wishbone it will be, but at the €180 pricepoint, i just cant imagine they wont add another feature over the Porsche RSR, maybe a gearbox or active aero? Either way, im prepared to be disappointed though, i couldnt really imagine 42096 being just a 42077 re-shell with a 50% price hike, but that is what we got.

I do see myself getting that ferrari, unless they reaaaaally mess up, like not make it red or something....

I think midnight purple or yellow will look cool too! Especially midnight purple, we never saw that colour. I think they got a great opportunity to make it midnight purple. But we’ll see

oh man, a purple ferrari with a new part unique in that colour, just imagine all the rage if they pull that one...

Yeah, i wouldnt mind a yellow supercar, but if they put out the first proper technic ferrari in about a decade and not make it red, im gonna cry. (yeah yeah, hyperbole, if it has a prancing horse on it, and the engine in the back it has to be red, end of)

I don't mind blue with engine at the front

Agreed, a 612 or something would just look plain wrong in red, and 550/575/599 etc.. all work very well in more understated colours

an F8 (or any of its predecessors) though? Red is the only option, the only thing possibly worse would be a red lamborghini

No need to quote the pic from the previous post. Thanks.

I'm not sure about that.

To be honest I'n nor the biggest fan of modern design; but beauty is in the eye of beholder. Logically new set should be a kind of advertisement for new model, but somehow more and more cars look the same to me; not to mention less and less metal, so you can not repair them without depending on specialised (expensive) workshops. On the other hand this modern lines are very challenging to be realistically represented with LEGO parts.

They say that the reason that so many new cars look similar is that they are designed with much more knowledge of aerodynamics than older cars were. Once designers figure out which basic shape is the best for packaging, space, and aerodynamics, they seem to like to stick to it, even if it means their vehicle will look a lot like the competition's.

That is what they say, but truth should be something else...just an example - this is 1940 BMW 328 Kamm with coefficient of drag 0.24

I think we should concentrate us on upcoming 2021 sets...

Never 1374. It's the successor to 42109 which had 463 pieces. That's still 89 less for 42124, but it's within the expected range.

I see; so you understand that it will be 374 pieces at release? That seems bizarre to me; how does TLG justify such odd PpP ratios at retail?

If you know the prices for the Control+ parts (does Lego already sell them separately? I don't know or care.) and then subtract them from the price, I'm sure you end up with 10 cent per piece for the rest of parts or even less. What is so hard to understand from the fact that motors, hubs and stuff cost more than 10 cent each?

TLG doesn't need to justify Price per Part since that's a metric used solely by AFOLs. And like @Gumalca said, this particular set has electronic parts which cost more to produce than normal parts.

Usually you pay for electronics (in those sets), and other parts you got almost fro free

The Off-roader set with Control + is goint to be interesting, I wonder if it is going to have any suspension at all with just 374 pieces… :sceptic:

I am looking forward to the larger sets that have more pieces as they will be better and more functional. I think that once the Technic Jeep set comes out, there will be all kinds of people making "B" models and even making a military variant.

Has anyone gotten both the hubs from the 42099 set and the differential from the 42109 and combined them besides @Sariel

That offroader is a Buggy, there are already videos with the leaks of some sets.

I can't find these videos. Where did you see them? Thx!

Can you see what tires the buggy has on the rear axle?
