Phase 3 Discussion

Recommended Posts

While I sit onboard my aircraft and work on writing our next campaign and also continue our planning for the next phase, I'd like to open the floor to all of you. Below are some points I'd like to accomplish with phase 3. I'd like your input on those points, how we accomplish them, and what else you'd like to see.

-Smaller Scale Theater of Battle- the next phase will not focus on a global theater but will be relegated to a smaller zone.

- Territorial Conflict- Players will play for control of the map. Whomever has the most space wins.

- Factions- The next phase will feature 3 factions that players will join and work together towards their goal of owning territory.

- Have an option for more players to participate in a casual role. How do we draw more players in to join us, even if they don't build for every event?

Tell me your thoughts and let's all talk.

There are three different organizations you can sign up for:

50617883802_516987ebc6_z.jpg

Peace Securing International Coalition- (PSIC) - Coalition of Allied Nations that recently waged a humanitarian relief effort in a neighboring country. Called upon by the international community to help deescalate the region and return it to peace. PSIC nations also see an opening in Soalon to not only institute a newly formed democracy, but to also exploit several of the countries resources and wealth.

50617774831_ff8232ae83_z.jpg

Kriviyat League of Republics- (KLR) - A collective of socialist nation states looking to spread influence throughout the world by one ideological shift at a time. With Soalon right on the border of two of its members' states, the KLR sees Soalon as ripe for the taking. For years they have had everything from deeply embedded spies in the Government, to corrupt officials on their payroll. Their influence in region is easily recognizable, but not welcomed by the population.

50617774826_8d8a64c2c4_z.jpg

The Brotherhood of Soalon- (BS)- after the collapse of the Soalon Government, those with any level of influence began to fend for themselves. Very rapidly, powerful figures in the country realized they would need to prepare to defend themselves from invaders as opposed to fighting one another. An underground was formed between the key figures of big crime syndicates, members of the disbanded Soalon Military, and religious extremists. The group extorted businesses on all levels to join the fold and it is largely believed the once booming economy of Soalon is at a finger's reach for the Brotherhood's network.

*Note* The pictures used above or purely for a rough form of reference. You do NOT have to make your builds exactly the same as shown in the pictures. These factions are open to interpretation within reason.

Each side will have it's own advantages and disadvantages when the game is underway, but we are electing not to post that during the sign up period as we want players to choose sides based on what they like to build and not purely for an edge in the game.

I really like the points you are working on already - seems like a good idea to bring back some of the best bits of phase 1 while maintaining some of the flexibility that this phase has allowed. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to lessen the number of large minimum size limits. I feel like it is something that makes the game daunting to new members with smaller collections - less limits doesn't force players not to build big scenes and I can't see would impact scoring so there would still be room for those who wanted to make a large build. On the same note, it would be nice to see some campaigns etc focusing on small builds - a 16x16 size limit can be really tough and from my experience can lead to some really interesting builds (I believe there was something similar with a recruitment challenge from Phase 1?). The other thing that might be interesting is a challenge that was in a scale other than minifigure - it would be great to see some microscale conflicts or 1:1 scale weapons, which I feel would add a bit of variation to the majority of the builds and might help draw in more players. I'm not sure how achievable these ideas are, but from my experience in other RPGs these are definitely features I enjoy.

Hi everybody.

Although I have not been very active, I will try to work less and enjoy more. I support all of your ideas: factions, smaller areas of the world to conquest, more players (but bringing them in is not easy) and territorial conflict.

I also support @marvelboy123 ideas , they seem interesting.

Enjoy and take care.

Due to the decrease in time I have available for this specific forum, I've decided to pull out for now.

@TheBeeze , you can open up Plighia for another player.

I also support all of these ideas, as a more casual gameplay would definitely help with retention of players. I know that I won’t be able to match the scale and amount of builds others make; nor will I make a build for every event. A major flaw I feel with the system is the number of countries compared to the number of actually active players. While creating your own personalized state and armed forces is great, this also puts more demand on individual players/teams. The effect is that every state has a less developed identity/military/storyline  due to the limitations in number of builds (one player can only do so much). I feel that the vast scope of the world that is attempting to be captured falls short frequently, and it’s not the players’ fault but the lack of them.

Short Answer- Good Ideas

Hi all

Hope you had a nice summer !!! :pir-huzzah1:
I
like all the above ideas, especially the 16X16 them would be challenging - at least for me that I usually use 48x48 :p

Hello dear fellows !

And a happy new year !

It's been a while I've been there !

I see there is a Faction based game project with the possibility to play badguys... That's really interesting...

A more complex lore and a territory control by faction is  a good base to start IMO.

The problem with the precedent Phase 2, IMO, was a too manichean way to think : a group of "bad" terrorists to be neutralised by the "good" players... Not really my cup of tea... This, and a lack of free time, made me step back from the game.

I would love to be more involved in the game if we can find 3 very different Factions with very diffrent way to think and different style to be played (What it seems to be). I'd play a totally different country though...

I'll be more free and the new lore seems better to my taste. I hope I'll could suscribe for a new style if I can.

Thank you for reading me and happy LEGO Time !

I've been lurking here for a while now, (since late Novemberish) I've only gotten back into Lego as an AFOL since October last year so my current parts collection is microscopic and I've mostly done specific Bricklinks for upcoming projects which would make it quite challenging to join and yet I am oh so very tempted. Especially because of the restart, it would be somewhat easier to step in as a new player I assume.

Hey! Thanks for checking us out. Yes, you are correct this will be a clean slate for everyone so as a beginner, you will not start with any disadvantages. We'd love to have you on with us. To note, we periodically do giveaways with items from our sponsors which may help in gathering your collection. Builds will not need to be huge in size unless you want them to be. I'd always recommend checking out someone like minifigcat or eclipsegrafx to look into kitting out some of your minifigs for combat. IF you need help or have questions in looking for things, check out the regular military forum and feel free to post questions as we have a very helpful community here.

Hey, just wondered what the policy on cross-posting was. I might not have time to fully commit to the RPG often but would I be allowed to cross post with other competitions etc. I would of course modify the builds enough that they could convincingly fit in a modern military aesthetic and if it would be preferred I could post them here and then in other competitions later. Not a problem if that isn't allowed just would impact how much I could commit.

Thanks for the reply, I'll keep an eye on the GBW then.

With some careful consideration, I think this idea would be acceptable for smaller types of builds. Any of the contests where there may be prizes or perks involved we would require fresh builds. I think this keeps it fair for everyone. Does anyone have feedback or concerns on this?

Absolutely, that seems very reasonable! Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

I will file for the Kriviyat League of Republics- (KLR) and later post the image of my figure when needed (I think we had to post it, but didn´t find the post again...).

Thanks!

ParmBrick reporting! Good evening comrades, I have followed the evolution of the program for the third phase since the beginning, also sharing some of my ideas about it, but only now I have decided for which faction to take the field. Following my style of play, I opt for the Peace Securing International Coalition (PSIC). We will fight for an ideal of peace and union, facing the situation with firmness, to guarantee security and future for the next generations, because the future belongs to those who are preparing for it today (cit.). Soon, if necessary, the presentation of my character will arrive.

Hi guys, this is not the signup thread. We will be reposting that soon. You're of course welcome to discuss anything you want pertaining to the next version of the game in here, but formal signups will be open soon.

In the meantime, we could use a little input from all of you.

We are currently working out the game mechanics for how players attack and defend grid squares. We have 2 Options we are kicking around right now and would appreciate your feedback of these preferred methods:

Players are going to have the ability to leave a defensive garrison of troops in up to 3 squares they control at a time. In addition to that, players will have the ability to purchase (and build) a Forward Operating Base (FOB) on squares they own. Knowing this here are the options:

1. Players can attack an occupied square by building an attack. If there is a garrison or FOB on that square, the attacking player will need to 2 attack builds in order to conquer the square. The purpose of this method is to keep it simple and take judging out of the equation because that could get controversial.

2. Players can attack an occupied square by building an attack. If there is a garrison or FOB on that square, the defending player will have an opportunity to build a defensive build within a certain period of time. The better build (regardless of the form of judging) will own the square. If the defensive player does not build a defensive build, they forfeit that square.

Again, please let us know which of these 2 options you like.
