Limited Edition Welsh Icons in Lego

I've just stumbled across this article regarding a recent sale of limited edition Lego minifigures of famous Welsh icons.

Seems we're all too late though...

This is the queue in Cardiff city centre as Lego enthusiasts aim to get their hands on a limited edition figures released to celebrate St David's Day.

The minifigures include Gareth Bale, Gareth "Alfie" Thomas, Ruth Jones as Nessa from television show Gavin and Stacey, Sir Tom Jones and Dame Shirley Bassey.

By 11am the queues were snaking out of the St David's Centre store out onto The Hayes, going further than the All Saints shop.

 

There were five stands all set up for each of the figures in the centre of the shopping centre where people could select their mini figure but plenty were left disappointed as they were all sold out by just after 11.30am.

 

Only 50 of each mini figure has been created and are only available on St David’s Day from the St David's shopping centre in Cardiff.

Customers can get their hands on the Lego pieces by making a minimum £5 donation with all proceeds being donated to five charities.

 

The charities benefiting from the limited-edition collection are Velindre, Pride Cymru, Ty Hafan, Valley’s Kids and Noah’s Ark.

 

One shopper gave up when he saw the queue: "I knew it would be busy, but I didn't expect to see such long queues. We decided not to queue and went to get a book instead.

"The funny thing was there wasn't many children in the queue."

Shopper Caroline, 42, from Barry said: "I’m here to surprise my kids with a Gareth Bale figure, it not I’ll get myself Tom Jones".

Are these official Lego though? It seemed vague on that. I guess scalpers will be happy if they are.

For me, those look like custom printed on lego parts. If they had been given out by LEGO, the employees would have other shirts and they should have done this in the actual brand store in Cardiff, or?
