Power Functions Unloading Boxcar

Recommended Posts

This is extremely cool. However, it uses obsolete components (from TLG's perspective). If you want to have a chance at this becoming a real set, I would modify your submission to include Powered Up components.

Regardless, I have added my support vote.

Phil B - Thanks for the feedback. I had no idea I was using out dated parts. I’ve placed an order for the Power Up parts and plan to incorporate them into my build. Thanks again!

We normally discourage joining and posting on EuroBricks just to advertise your LEGO ideas project, but this model is a mechanical masterpiece. I love watching the minifigure doing the unloading "manually"!

To make the post more engaging could you add some more of the photos and videos of it in operation? You'll need to host the photos somewhere like Flickr or Bricksafe and embed them here by copy-pasting the link, the forum storage is only for profile/signature photos.

This is amazing! I can hear the buzz of the old Lionel unloading boxcars as I watch this.
There's been a few other recreations of classic Lionel sets I've seen over the years. Good to see another done in Lego.

I echo that completely (so come and post more of your MOCs in train tech)

That is a brilliant piece of work, inspirational. I would not worry about using PF on this, the IDEAS is just that, if Lego liked it they would update it to the current PUP. Just don't hold your breath, they never seem to like trains in IDEAS, but the more great train stuff like this the more we'll get their attention.

Thanks everyone for the comments. The Train in the video is my 7yr old nephews that I got for him last Christmas. Every year at Christmas time my father sets up an O Scale train layout with lots of action cars that my nephew loves. My nephew also loves Legos so last year I got him the train set. Shortly after setting it all up he asked if I could make him an action car for his Lego train set "just like Pop-pops", so that's how my creation became to be. It was my sister who showed me the Lego Ideas website and encouraged me to enter. My brother-in-law helped with the pictures and video (I am not tech savvy) and advised me on how to promote. I unfortunately have a very busy work schedule right now so my apologies for shamelessly promoting my design and not having the time to follow up with any updates. When things do slow down for me I'll be sure to provide more updates. I do not have any additional projects in the works but must say I really enjoyed the challenge of designing this boxcar, so who knows. Anyways, thanks again for all the comments and support!

Thanks everyone for their feedback on my design. Based on comments I've received I've redesigned my Boxcar to give it a more modern look and added the new Powered Up motor. I'm awaiting my new submission to be approved on Lego Ideas.
