[COR - FB] Class IV WTC Topsail Schooner Sjælland

Recommended Posts

This MOC was inspired by @Mr. Townsend's Miss Elizabeth and @Bregir's use of 4185. Also of course the USS Hannah, on which the Miss Elizabeth is based.

- Intro story will follow -

A new ship was launched at the Farrensman shipyards. This time an order from the WTC. The Topsail Schooner Sjælland is a fast, light armed merchant vessel. Her rig doesn't require a big crew and her four carronades as well as her four swivel guns are enough to defend against little ambushes and make her one of the more independent merchant vessels.

Nathaniel Stienhouwer's first signed position as a steersman.

Her recommended stats:

78 of those little brown wheels are in this MOC. I'm happy with the result, only the sheets for the foresails bother me a bit. I might think of another solution but for now I want to give her some rest.

Nice one... Great rigging !

For a topsail schooner, it is especially well rendered.

I always avoid to built one just because of the topsail. I was afraid of a possible ugly rendering. Yours is impeccable. Well done !

You don’t need to flex so hard on us with that rigging. Next ship I make I’ll send you to rig for me :pir-laugh:

Well done!

Is this a thing ... Can we do this? Lol

@Wellesleylove the rigging as well.  It might be the photo angles but a couple of shots make the side very flat looking.

If you can get a free Hi res shots of her on a blank background I would love to blog it!

Thanks! I might think about doing it as a side job:D

Oh yes, it's absolutely flat:D At least there is no tumblehome. All I got is the hull shape from above.

I will try, but currently for decent lighting I'm dependent on the sun. Is the following pic okay?

Beautiful, beautiful vessel. It's nice to see some of the less-common sail plans, and while the hull itself is fairly simple, the rigging is just astounding. Excellent work!!

That's some fine rigging there! Say...my frigate has yet to be properly rigged...how much do you charge per hour?

Jokes aside, another masterpiece, Wellesley! Your rigging, sails, and hull curvature always shocks me, and I enjoy every second of admiring your work!

Have you ever referenced or made a tutorial as to how you go about your sails? Haven't really found how to properly make them yet, and yours are some of the best I've seen.

As the others have said, that is some seriously fine rigging! I too like the unusual configuration here. A very sleek and beautiful ship! How is it you don't have a ship expert tag!?!

I saw the face book post and thought she was new, so I came on by to see more. I noticed the date and thought "how did I miss this when it was new?" Know what it is? i was probably a it buthurt that I wasn't mentioned even though there's clearly a lot of my influence in there (there's a rumor going around that i can be quite prideful :pir-wink:). Ego aside, though, what a great build!

As a model, you have all the working elements represented and in good proportion. He hull shape is just about spot-on and her rigging is complete, detailed and, I bet, working. What about the foresail sheets bother's you, I wonder?

As a schooner, she's sleek and trim predator of a thing, any prize-hunting jack would be happy to climb aboard and go find his fortune!

if you're looking for notes at all: I might have moved the fore mast back a few studs to give more space for the forestay sail to not over lap the inner jib so much. That's a big change at this point, for not a whole lot of gain, though.

Anyway, I'm glad you built her and thrilled you shared her. Thanks!

@kurigan Hey, sorry for the belayed answer, wasn't active here for a long time.

Thanks for the praise:) I totally understand you on that pride side:D
I bet there are a lot of techniques you came up with first. Especially, if you have been an influence for @Mr. Townsend's Miss Elizabeth. I mentioned him because this whole ship was motivated by his and at the beginning I thought about copy it exactly. And the technique from @Bregir was just new to me and very fitting. I try to give as much credit as possible, but a lot of techniques and ideas are quite common now and hard to trace back.
But now as I think about it, to build the binnacle sideways was directly adopted from your latest HMS Ram Cat version. This was not an initial inspiration but part of troubleshooting coming from shortage of space, so I forgot to write about it.
