Are the prices due to currency conversion? I was willing to accept some of them, but not the majority - really hoping those are cheaper in the US.

If Monkie Kid is the son of Monkey King... Does this mean that Princess Iron Fan is the daughter of Bull Demon King? *oh2*

According to the novel, she is the wife of Bull Demon King

Do we have confirmation yet whether this is indeed the next big bang theme? Or is it more of a casual theme, like Hidden Side?

Holy cow those sets look amazing!!! I love how colorful they all are and even if they remind you of Ninjago I'd say this theme is much better.I'll probably snag one set (probably the white bike) and call it a day I don't think I have space for all those sets.

But I gotta say I find it rather disappointing that the only villains are those bull guys.

There isn’t that female on top of the Bull Mech...so it’s not entirely bull guys. Just mostly.

I already wonder what are gonna be the villains for next year... I know JttW has a lot of demons so I wonder which ones are next, I would like them to go with sea demons next.

Also, is this the first time Lego actually uses the word "demon" in a set?

While not the same context, the Speed Champions set 75893 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and 1970 Dodge Charger R/T.

Those are neat, but having thought about it a bit more, I think the ones I want most are the Secret HQ - because a ship slash hideout like that will be perfect in my city’s industrial area - and the Food Truck, because it’s only fourteen studs wide and should fit quite snugly in a space I’ve got, as a ‘restaurant’. Maybe also the Red Son Inferno Truck, because it’d suit my crime syndicate pretty well as a ‘boss vehicle’. Assuming I can find somewhere to put it. The Monkey Mech is gorgeous but probably gonna be outside my budget if I’m getting the Secret HQ . .

Definitely. The boat would be great for that kind of area. The only water section I have is the Ninjago City/Docks part. I still hope to grab that though. It may work with Welcome to Apocalypseburg! as a stranded boat turned dwelling. I love the mech because I’m a huge fan of the Ninjago Movie ones, still have them on display & the Titan Mech, which I think could pair well with the Monkey one. And I love the Cloud Jet because it feels very anime to me.

A stranded boat house in Apocalypseburg sounds awesome.

Actually, my city’s more of a floating island setup, so I’ll probably be converting it into a sort of flying cargo barge. (That’s actually secretly a hideout for some supervillains - maybe Egghead from TLBM, I’ve been looking for a place to put him and his mech after installing Condiment King as a fast food chef.) It’s really more of a Star Wars-like spaceport, with berths to display some of my favourite spaceships (the Benatar from Avengers is there, so’s the big Overwatch shuttle, and I have a spot reserved for the Razorcrest) and a big runway to enable air shows. (Got the idea for that from the Hidden Side Stunt Plane). I want to add some more ‘shantytown’ builds to really emphasise the idea that it’s the bad part of town, and adding a moored cargo vessel that everyone knows but no one says is secretly the headquarters for the local mafia or what have you is perfect. And give how huge it is, it’ll easily become one of the big landmarks of the area.

Now, if only they’d make a Kingpin minifigure . .

I'm puzzled how LEGO decided to run this theme alongside Ninjago, as the two are nearly identical in style.

Eh, with the summer sets I don't see that much of a similarity.

They have used the word "demon" in the past. An example that comes to mind is 9092 Crazy Demon from the Racers theme.

Yeah, but not for actual paranormal entities. For example the lava monsters.

Fair enough.

Also, can please a mod change the name of the thread into Monkie Kid instead of Monkey Kid? Since for some reason Lego changed it to Monkie, probably for trademark.

Well, Lego is only mentioned in the article as an example of how companies have responsibly shifted manufacturing to china, there is nothing on how the tariff affects it. Obviously this affects Lego, but as to how much is unclear, mostly because they already have other factories that they use.

About the price differences, here are 2 sets from city last year that have a $20 difference

https://brickset.com/sets/60229-1/Rocket-Assembly-Transport

https://brickset.com/sets/60217-1/Fire-Plane

As for the supply chain, why can't lego make a few thousand in Mexico and Hungary for Europe and the U.S. while also making millions in China for China? I think that's how they usually do it anyways, I see no real reason to change it that much.

Finally, using the prices from the site these came from, I really do see how we could have gotten these inflated prices...

This year's police station? The price listed converts to about $140. The Ninjago Temple of Madness? $110. How about the cyber dragon? $60. It really does look like someone just chucked the prices they saw into a converter and claimed that as a source.

I don't mean for any of this to come off as aggressive, I'm just trying to make sense of these things. Either way, I'm sure we'll know what's actually the case sooner or later.

Because some of the specialised pieces require new moulds and they wouldn't buy them for every factory because they amortize only at certain (large) quantities. I'm not saying that every part is produced in China. For example a white 1x4 brick is produced in Mexico, Hungary and China. But the new specialised pieces and printed pieces are not produced at every factory because you have to reconfigure the assembly line or buy specific new equipment. That is why the medium legs for the normal retailer Harry Potter sets were unprinted because only the factory in China has the equipment and assembly line to print on them. They can be moulded in Mexico but not printed. China produces the CMF (with printed medium legs and dual molded printed arms & legs). Let's take Pygsy's new printed medium legs for example. This part has to be produced in China. Same goes for the parts of the Monkey King or Mei's and Monkie Kid's printed hair piece.

As to the currency conversion that was my initial assumption as well, but PenPlays mentioned a source saying those prices were real Dollar prices, so the hypothesis about the price increase for the US due to the tariffs made more sense, if we take the veracity of the source for granted. I questioned Falconfan about the currency conversion on Instagram but he has since deleted his post with the prices and has not responded yet.

These sets have a high piece count then the prices are justified. As PenPlays pointed out these sets are for an older demographic.

These sets are primarily designed for kids. You can see it on the box where it says 6+ or 10+. A line with the traditional Journey to the West with buildings of temples and scenery would be for adults. But you can't tell me mechs and trucks with play functions are for an older demographic. Look at the modulars, UCS sets or the new helmet busts. Those are purely display pieces and therefore 18+. Chinese parents in certain demographics and cities are more well off than the standard American consumer, I grant you that, and will buy more expensive toys for their one kid.

Any update on the release date?

I think the theme might be delayed because of how fast Lego deleted the pictures and they didn't want it to leak even that it was probably supposed to release in May.

You're right, Red Son is their son, Bull Demon King has normal size when he doesn't transform.

There is a Wikipedia page about these characters that followed the novel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Iron_Fan

Now that the Ninjago sets have begun leaking, I'm guessing there's going to be quite a few 'giant robot battle' videos by the end of the year. LEGO City is going to get demolished!

Yeah, that's a good point. It's entirely possible that these are mainly produced in China. About the prices, I just feel like it's too much of a coincidence how similar they are, and also because it's hard to tell how much the tariff really does affect all of this. In the end, we really don't have any clear answers to all of this, so I guess we'll just stay in the dark for now.

Back to set discussion, I wonder how the two mechs scale to each other? If the two of them together look good, then that would be one awesome display, especially with any sort of city for them to fight in! I've just loved all of these large scale mechs recently, there's something about that kind of scale that's just impressive. I also love some of the more silly details, like the demon bicycle and burnt hot dog in the inferno truck set, and Pigsy's various hot dog weapons. Some classic Lego fun!

Edit: Wait, Jang just re-uploaded his Monkie Kid video... is that a mistake, or has something changed? I also hadn't seen the parts counts until now, those prices are making some more sense with the larger ones now...

Definitely some interesting sets.  I'm really liking the Mech's.  The Monkey King looks great.  I like the bull demons.  Going to pick up the Mech's and some of the smaller sets for sure for the figs.  Hope these come out soon.
