Minions 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

Grew's lair and the motorcycle are gonna be the 2 I'll pick up. I'll have every character with the two sets. It surprises me how the dental braces minion doesn't even have them. Grew looks rather dump without his nose but I didn't expect anything different. I wished Lego would make specialised head pieces again. Oh well. At least young Grew wears the same outfit as adult Grew so I can just remove the hair to make him accurate to the original movies.

Still I think the Chinese temple and the robots are the best looking sets, but if I wanted a Chinese temple I'll just buy the normal one and I'm not that into minions to buy a 50 Euro(?) set.

I plan on repurposing Gru too, I just hope he doesn't have a face on both sides of his head.

The only time anyone ever hoped for less detail . .

Still, I agree that the sets are surprisingly nice. I’m going to pick up the bike and the temple set, because the temple is cute and compact and I can always find room for a six-deep shrine, and I can’t not have Gru. Though the presence of a thing like that here makes me fear there won’t be anything similar in Monkie Kid like I hope . .

Since it’s Kid Gru, am I the only one considering switching his legs for mid- or short legs?

The Dark blue mid-legs from the Disney train would've fit perfectly there. Wonder why they didn't use them. If they ever plan to make an adult Gru in the sets, they haven't planned ahead very well.

I wonder if those arms fit into bricks like the Nexo Knights ones, or if the torso pieces might be a new mould that fits minifigure arms. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking

I really thought they were gonna use the (relatively) new scarf mould for Gru, seeing as it's almost the perfect shape to do so. I don't get all the inconsistency in Lego's minifigure designs...

The big day is here, all the sets have been revealed!

A lot of these sets feel overpriced to me, I already didn’t care much for the theme, now even less so. I do like how they designed the mini figs though, the printed tiles for eyes are a clever use of normal LEGO parts and allows for more expression.

Huh, while I'm glad to see that the only "human" represented in these sets didn't go the specially-molded head route, that's kinda dampened by the fact that the Minion figures are too large to properly scale-up against minifigure characters that represent adults, hence why they end-up giving "adolescent" Gru otherwise adult-sized legs. :sceptic:

Besides that though, those Brick-Built Minions and their interior living spaces are a nice unintentional callback to the Build-A-Bob set from 2006. :shrug_oh_well:

Oh no, now I'm scared :def_shrug: Oh well, it's not like the face really screams Gru to begin with, I can just swap it out when necessary. Most important piece is the torso.

Say, does the one "rotund" Minion there (Otto I guess his name is) with the specialized body have a fixed hairpiece, or could it be removable? :shrug_confused:

As I shared in my Instagram story,  75550 Minions Kung Fu Battle = NINJAGO + Chinese Festival + Minions rolled into one.  That's not a bad thing.

Also, the "kung fu outfit" is definitely a homage to Bruce Lee (not much of a Kill Bill reference)

I hope it is!!

Because of this small gap, I think it’ll be a 1x1. Otherwise they would probably have dual molded it no? I think it could be reused in other sets. Grass/greenery maybe?in green..

I'm disappointed with these sets, the budget seems limited compared to Angry Birds & Trolls.

Grus Laboratory doesn't offer much and valued toward Jr.

Plane is Plain

The motorcycle is fairly inaccurate for the sake of stability.

Temple & buildable figure is decent, however the Temple have to contest with the New Year sets, Ninjago, and the rumored Monkey Kid

Comparing to Angry Birds/Trolls, most of the sets doesn't focus around a vehicle/machine and introduced many new molds/recolors (despite some were specialized and used once). Minions only have specialized figures and nothing else. :bonaparte:

Good eyes there, perhaps it is a removable piece!  :classic: If it is, I personally want to see how it'd look on a minifigure myself...

I like the sets and how the minions look, but the Gru without a nose doesn't seem like Gru to me.

Pfffft, it wouldn't be a minifigure if it did have a nose now would it?

Huigberts Builds mentioned that the Otto hairpiece looks like a good fit for Bert in the Sesame Street set.

I think these sets look surprisingly nice and some like the Temple and Plane can be repurposed for a city type theme. They look bright, fun, and genuinely good. Kids will love them, adults can display them.

The worst part seems to be a lot of rumored prices. ($30 for the plane *huh* thats $15 max).

I think I will pass on these there fine sets but the one I was more interested in the temple is not what I expected it to be

for some reason im just not interested in the Chinese themed builds that's why I don't expect much from the upcoming monkey kid theme

Well, if you are looking to get another minifig, yes. But I personally would have liked them to take the Simpsons approach with it instead - not just adding the nose to the standard head, but to actually mold the head of the real character. That being said, that's not the way I would usually prefer in general, it's just in this case (as was the case with the Simpsons) - his nose is such a distinctive feature of his character that omitting it just doesn't feel like the same character to me.

I’m loving the Kung Fu set(three banana colors- two new ones even) & the buildable Minions. Will likely for sure get the Kung Fu, have to see about the buildables.
