suffocation Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 I decided to use my mod of the 42100 carrier to build a very basic lattice crawler crane, most likely in DBG/LBG and white. This is the carrier, which is 4 studs longer than 42100 and is powered by 4 L motors and 1 BuWizz unit. And this is the very rudimental beginning of the superstructure. Notice the ridiculous amount of ideas pinched from 42042 and 42082, too. Quote
Metagross555 Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 You're gonna have a lot of friction on that worm gear for the winch. The track frame sides look really good. And most crawler cranes have the cab on the right side for whatever reason. Quote
suffocation Posted November 4, 2019 Author Posted November 4, 2019 Apologies for the atrocious pic and for 42042 being used as a prop. Is the cab's position okay or should I move it back? Quote
Mechbuilds Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 Your part collection is making my part collection look like a joke. Jesus that wall of parts.. Quote
Aleh Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 Hey! Great idea! Love crawler cranes! Since now I'm looking forward this spread! 6 hours ago, suffocation said: Is the cab's position okay or should I move it back? I sure you must not move it back, imo cab may be moved 1-2 studs forward, even. Btw i have thinkings to build own Crawler Crane MK2 due to great interest and success of the first version. Quote

suffocation Posted November 8, 2019 Author Posted November 8, 2019 Finished the crane and it looks hideous, so any tips on how to make it less of an eyesore are welcome. Quote
pleegwat Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 Doesn't look that bad to me. Can the superstructure be less wide? Quote

Gray Gear Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 (edited) I dont know anything about construction equipment, I am a car guy. Just saying. Somehow this crane looks more like an excavator than a crawler crane. To me it looks like the track section is too high, and not long and wide enough. I would not have used the huge track wheels for a crane this size as well. Connecting the lifting system for the boom at the top and not at the middle of the boom might be a good idea. And a way to put on some weigths might give it more of a crane appearance as well. These are just my unqualified thoughts, I dont want to insult your work Edited November 9, 2019 by Gray Gear Quote
Bartybum Posted November 10, 2019 Posted November 10, 2019 (edited) @Gray Gear It’s a cool MOC but I definitely agree that the track base dimensions don’t really suit the size of the sprockets. Edited November 10, 2019 by Bartybum Quote
Shiva Posted November 10, 2019 Posted November 10, 2019 It is not that bad! A bit more width between the tracks + make the tracks longer. There are a lot of different crawler cranes out there. Quote
Countdown Posted November 10, 2019 Posted November 10, 2019 IMHO, your carbody's upper structure should be longer in the counterweight area. Also, try adding some catwalks on either side. Another point: if the pendants would reach the top of the boom, it would make a big difference on the proportions. Overall, i like it, just wish i could moc something like that. Quote
suffocation Posted June 14, 2020 Author Posted June 14, 2020 I rebuilt the whole thing a few months ago, replacing the PF motors with Control+ motors (needed the former for another project). One good thing about the Control+ hub is that it seems to offer better power management than traditional PF battery boxes. Quote
Dylan M Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 Good MOC ?? this is more I like hope to build this someday Quote
I.Igor Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 Just one question - could be better to use 11 x 7 frames to make stronger, but then boom work be 7 studs thick instead of 9 studs...but it looks very good Quote
