I decided to use my mod of the 42100 carrier to build a very basic lattice crawler crane, most likely in DBG/LBG and white.

This is the carrier, which is 4 studs longer than 42100 and is powered by 4 L motors and 1 BuWizz unit.

And this is the very rudimental beginning of the superstructure. Notice the ridiculous amount of ideas pinched from 42042 and 42082, too.

You're gonna have a lot of friction on that worm gear for the winch.

The track frame sides look really good.

And most crawler cranes have the cab on the right side for whatever reason.

Hey! Great idea! Love crawler cranes! Since now I'm looking forward this spread!

Is the cab's position okay or should I move it back?

I sure you must not move it back, imo cab may be moved 1-2 studs forward, even.

Btw i have thinkings to build own Crawler Crane MK2 due to great interest and success of the first version.

Can the superstructure be less wide?

Unfortunately not  The motors and drivetrains are pretty crammed in as it is.

I dont know anything about construction equipment, I am a car guy. Just saying.

Somehow this crane looks more like an excavator than a crawler crane.

To me it looks like the track section is too high, and not long and wide enough. I would not have used the huge track wheels for a crane this size as well.

Connecting the lifting system for the boom at the top and not at the middle  of the boom might be a good idea.

And a way to put on some weigths might give it more of a crane appearance as well.

These are just my unqualified thoughts, I dont want to insult your work

@Gray Gear It’s a cool MOC but I definitely agree that the track base dimensions don’t really suit the size of the sprockets.

It is not that bad!

A bit more width between the tracks + make the tracks longer.

There are a lot of different crawler cranes out there.

IMHO, your carbody's upper structure should be longer in the counterweight area. Also, try adding some catwalks on either side.

Another point: if the pendants would reach the top of the boom, it would make a big difference on the proportions.

Overall, i like it, just wish i could moc something like that.

I rebuilt the whole thing a few months ago, replacing the PF motors with Control+ motors (needed the former for another project). One good thing about the Control+ hub is that it seems to offer better power management than traditional PF battery boxes.

Just one question - could be better to use 11 x 7 frames to make stronger, but then boom work be 7 studs thick instead of 9 studs...but it looks very good
