Rims spining inside tires problem (beadlock)

About 10 years  ago I glued 8 of the large balloon tires to their rim to stop them spinning; my 8x8 could spin all 8 when it was anchored,(and the ear splitting sound) and since then have had no problems which surprised me due to the abuse they get. But I just realised I never seen anyone glue their rims or have any problems with inter-wheel traction, so am I the only one or is it just ubiquitous and everyone else glues the inner bead (mine have 4 unsightly nodes of glue on either side).

I've seen people put rubber bands in the groove of the rim to increase friction.
