Clay Carling's Adventures in Jameston

Recommended Posts

After a long journey, finally Lietanant Carling and his Crew arrived at the military port of Jameston.

A couple of soldiers and the Chief Officer from the local administration office was present at the arrival. Surprisingly Lietanant Carling found himself a home directly at the harbour, to have a view on his brand new small ship.

The officer took the crew to breakfast and ordered this day off duty to restthe crew.

By a interesting conversation between Officer Brady and Lieutenant Carling, the officer revealed the need of small warships to escort and protect the trade ships. Another thing that is concerning is that there has been some activities seen from the small unsettled islands in front of the coast of the main island.

As a big surprise for Mr. Carling, Officer Brady knew his dad, Admiral Sir James Carling, and is very excited to see what his ambitious son is capable of.

During the conversation Clay had to ask about his father's passing.

Officer Brady told him that he was a young sailor on the ship of his father, the HMS Arlinsshark while they have been in a small confrontation between Warships from Eslandola and Oleon.

After one ship of Eslandola opened fire towards the Oleon ship, Sir James Carling wanted to intervene and stop a war... the situation became chaotic.

Cannon balls flee all over and shots being fired. One bullet struck Admiral Sir James Carling down as he died on duty for his country, trying to keep peace...

He heard that a former Officer on that Ship, Jim Crook, was standing beside Sir James Carling when he was shot. He had to see where the shot came from as he left the ship for revenge and never came back. Rumours say that he is a retired buccaneer on a small lone island. He doesn't know more than that...

He quickly changed the topic as he realized how obsessed Lieutenant Carling became when he was taking about his father.

He ordered not to shoot other warships without a good reason, as keeping peace was also his father's priority.

Finally after a couple of glasses of Oleon Red Wine and an Eslandolan Cigar, Officer Brady read the ordered for Lieutenant Carling... He has to patrol the coast close to the harbour and escort trade / merchant ships, but only inside the area of the sea which is occupied By the Corrington Empire, to not cause confrontationswith other nations.

The second order is to check the small unsettled isles and investigating any activities and report to the office about every small accident, doesn't matter how unimportant it seems to be.

Will Liuetenant Carling find out who murdered his father? What is going on at the unsettled small islands?

Will he find the former Sailor Crook? Or did he just die already or is back in Belson enjoying retirement and all the rumours are just what they are... Rumours..?

Finally arriving in his room he saw smoke on the horizon, a very small cloud of smoke, from one of the mentioned isles... now he know what island to check first...But for now he is resting first. Following orders, even an order to rest, is his priority so he noted that as one of the missions for the next day... and went to sleep.

Welcome in the Brick Seas! :classic: I like your introductive build, even if your uniforms have too much red and too little blue for my tastes!  Nice writing too.

PS: I think you chose a wonderful face for your minifig, probably one of the best here in BoBS… and mine is only an aesthetic comment, absolutely no personal involvement! :laugh_hard::laugh_hard::laugh_hard::laugh_hard:

A brilliant start for your adventures, well done!

Two nice little scenes that work just well for the story. Those black plates could use some cleaning though. :pir-grin:

I am using the same head for both Corrington officers as well as in the WTC - it is just perfect. If I remember correctly I got mine from the "Build a Minifig"-thing the Lego stores do.

Yeah nice. To be honest I tried to put the face on that fits myself most.

20190823-172013.jpg

He has the exact beard like me, hip hop clothes in red and it my lego me.

But in the 80s this beard did not exist yet, that style came in the 90s the first time.

The Beards 300 years ago was so different, that I chose that one from the officer of the flagship. It just matched the beard in old style very good so I took it for my sigfig ;-)

Thx

Finally on the next day the crew already been on time at the port waiting for their first mission. Lieutenant Carling and his Crew escorted ships all day and had some time to check the islands islands Clay saw the smoke coming from last day...
The Island seemed to be unsettled... But there was footprints in the dirt and there was evidence of human presence everywhere.
Going deeper into the island they found... nothing. Surprisingly on the other side, the coast of this island directed to the ocean, there was an old man sitting, ready to make a fire and eat bananas whole doing it...
Lieutenant Carling went to talk to him. He is a shipwrecked he said. But Clay didn't believe him so sat down to him and had a long talk. Telling him he is on Corrington Territory. But as soon as Clay told him his name, Lieutenant Carling, the old man began to talk...
His name is Crook and he was one of the best friends of James Carling. On the day of the death of his father, he told him, there was a bad atmosphere on the sea. The smell of death, like he called it, was in the air.
And while claiming a small island back in the day, caused a big confrontation between two other Nations too, that arrived at the same time. To keep peace and not to start a war he wanted to leave the island for the other nations but itvwas too late.
A Oleon Sniper shot Admiral Carling while the Eslandolan Warship just heard the shot from the Oleon ship and started to open fire on them. It went all bad. Mr. Crook told me he jumped off the stern and took a row boat and some men to enter the Oleon Ship... But suddenly, an own cannon bull struck the row boat apart and most of the soldiers on it died.
Mr. Crook flew, frustrated and broke to another island. He never went back to Belson, his home, nor to any other city. He is living on that Island for years now.
Before the end of the conversation the old man remembered something... and told Clay the name of the French Sniper that shot his father. Reading the name Lieutenant Carling was shocked... that man is commanding a Oleon Warship these days...
Clay Carling left thinking about how he can get to this Admiral... But he quickly returned to duty and his mission. The nect island had to be checked.

After a few days without any accidents, the crew of the HMS Annettanian realized some activity on another island they did not check yet. Lieutenant Carling immediately sailed to that Island.
A small row boat was on the beach, and some footprints pointed deeper into the island.
Suddenly they heard McDonald screaming that some pirates want to flew of the isle. They saw the ship already and hided, to flew when the soldiers are deeper on it. But the last soldier of the HMS Annettania had other plans. He shot the row boat before the pirates could reach it.
Lieutenant Carling and his man had no real trouble to catch the two pirates, but they died to their wounds before Carling could talk to them.
Carling and his soldiers checked the rest of that Island. There has to be something there that was worth to run away and attack soldiers, it was worth it to die for it. So he and his men checked every tree and every stone k that isle, finally finding something.... they found a treasure chest full of Gold and Gold Coins.
The men celebrated but knew, they will not keep any of that for themselves.
Lieutenant Carling ordered to take the treasure chest to the administration office of the military port of Jameston.
Surprisingly a very high military officer checked the treasure chest, counting every coin and reading the report from Mr. Carling. His face was full of scars. He told him that this Gold was stolen by pirates days before Csrlin and his Crew arrived. And that every single coin is still there. But before the high ranked officer could talk more to Clay, he was already gone. He went to his cabin and started to think. Think about his father and how he can get in touch with the Oleon Admiral... without causing a war or a confrontation with Oleon at all...

Will Lieutenant Carling follow his emotions and search for the Oleon' Officer, or will he just stick to his orders?

Today after the crew came back to Jameston, Lieutenant Carling bought a big cannon for the ship. Additional he moved the two small ones up front, so they can shot in all directions.

The only other update to his ship is a small change at the back. To make it more like a Caravel.

Lieutenant Carling is tired after the first days in the heat on sea. He is thinking a lot of the Oleon Admiral and about what kind of adventures are ahead. Now, better equipped, having done a few checks and escorted a lot of trade ships, Carling and his men finally feel like this is the place to be...

20190823-202027.jpg

The updates was necessary, as Mr. Carling felt like he could use additional weapons on his ship to fulfil his duty.

The changes at the back was simply for the beauty of the ship.

He is proud to show his loyalty with this elegant ship named after his beloved Queen. He is proud and mastered the first days in the new world.

Capturing two Oleon rebels

As Lieutenant Carling and his Crew are having already a daily routine, something unexpected happened...

The day started as usual. Lt. Carling studied newspapers what is going on in Eslandola and Oleon, inside the Corrington Empire and all news that can be useful for the missions.

He studied which Island will be next to check, what kind of trade ships they have to escort today and what time they supposed to come and leave.

Like everyday, Lt. Carling makes a whole plan for the day. The weather is sunny, it's hot! Clay enjoys the life here already, without the bitter cold winters of Belson.
20190824-121653.jpg

After escorting two small ships, without any accidents the crew now had time to check the next Island...
20190824-124740.jpg

It's a small one, with a big rock on it. This Rockisland is so small, nobody of the crew expected to find something there. Also Lt. Carling did not believe to find anything there.

Carling and three of his men went to check the rock. Seemed like a usual rock, so they wanted to go back when suddenly a big wave crashed their row boat into the rock... But it went into the rock. By taking a look inside, Lt. Carling couldn't believe what he saw. Two Oleon Soldiers, pared with red flags, red eppaulettes...
20190824-122117.jpg

As Lt. Carling know about what's going on in Oleon, he recognized the flags and the colour is used in Oleon by the "republicans" or "Society of Heracles".

Lt. Carling did not wait a second, gave command to his one soldier on the ship to bring a boat, or another ship to take these refuges to the Office in Jameston. As the HMS Annettania went on to the port, Carling and his men started to ask the two Oleon Soldiers why they flew, and why here, to enemy territory?

These Soldiers were very proud of their country. But something has to change. The Crew listened to the two men, but nobody of them really had sympathy for any of them two. Carling and his Crew are as loyal as they can be. So that two soldiers are traitors in his eyes, knowing when they contact Oleon and deliver them two traitors, they will be executed...

Are strange discussion starts between Lt. Carling and his 1st mate, Ian...

"Lt. Carling sir. Why shall we bring them to our Gouvernment and officially handing them to the Oleon Forces, knowing that they will be executed, Sir? Why not taking them back to Oleon secretly? They are trying to do a revolution, so why not giving them all they need and letting them do what they want to do... that would weakend Oleon a lot."

Lt. Carling thought a while...
"No, we will follow orders. Imagine Oleon would catch some Separatists from Corrington, and let them do and helping them to cause a revolution or a civil war. The Corrington Empire doesn't make dirty wars. We win our wars on the Sea! Corrington's Soldiers are no cowards. We have honor and pride, we have rules that we protect, we should live the way we are telling people to do."

Suddenly it became darker...

"Is it going to rain, Sir?"

But it wasn't going to rain. The message of the captured political refugees from Oleon, it was so important that there wasn't another ship coming... there was a whole fleet coming! Lt. Carling was very impressed. One day he want to become an Admiral with a big ship like that, commanding a whole fleet. That is his dream...

But there was no time for dreaming, as just some soldiers came out with the Admiral from the big ship. And before he could ask a name, they took the refugees on board and sailed away.

"Great work! Excellent job, you are a few days here, already killed some pirates, brought back stolen Gold and now found some refugees, really excellent. Sir Lieutenant Carling, I will remember your name."
20190824-121955.jpg

Then he left before Carling could say a word. He just could handle the Admiral the red flag from the two Oleon Soldiers before he walked away. The Admiral didn't even want to know what the refugees said. Will they bring the refugees back to Oleon or will they help them? He really wants to know what is going to happen to them. Because he, himself, feels very uncomfortable if the Empire will help political refugees, republicans, criminals, traitors. But that's nothing what he have any influence on. He would like to speak to Admiral Fletcher and ask, who this Admiral right now was, what's his name, what they do with the refugees... But Carling doesn't want Admiral Fletcher to know that he is curious. Rather he just wants to do his job and follow orders. Right now he recognized how less influence he have, but he hopes that will change. For now, the crew headed home...
And as Lt. Carling's Crew his happy, in a very good mood about another successful day, he himself can't let this accident go. He still thinks about to talk to Admiral Fletcher... But he really isn't sure what to do...

On a twist of events, Admiral Fletcher confirmed that there is no other Admiral in Terra Nova then him.

Lt. Carling and his Crew fell to pirates, criminals or maybe Oleon People who was in other uniforms and flags to pick up their people or the rebels...

Officer Brady was furious when received the report.

20190824-200429.jpg

He received orders from Admiral Fletcher to go to Mesabi Landing and to report about the development after the storm.

Officer Brady delivered Lt. Carling a list with high profile 1st mates ready to take second command of a brand new ship in the new world.

At his office Lt. Carling went immediately to study the list and hire a veteran first mate, one with experience, as the crew is in need of that help to avoid future failings like today...

20190824-201923.jpg

As for me I am planning of licensing the department of the military port that Lt. Carling and Officer Brady work for. Also Carling's House will be present of an build I will try to license.

For today that was enough of Lt. Carling's Adventures... The next ones are already calling

As I am in bed really sick now, slowing down a bit and buy me at least some new bricks to match the details from all y'all builds a little bit. It's really hard to generate different scenes, having 90% just black and grey bricks from the 80s...

So I will improve the military port, Brady's Office and Lt. Carling's home as soon as I feel better.

For now, I think it's time to rest, also my crew needs a little bit of rest too.

Lt. Carling and his friend and no.1 Ian Wright are drinking, enjoying the sunset over Jameston and looking at their beautiful ship, taking about a adding a crew member and about the next mission, ordered by Admiral Flethcer to inspect the rebuild of Mesabi Landing...

The port you see is the military section with the Office of Brady. But looks very 80s so with me new bricks I will place a lot of the old stuff and add some architecture. It's two big plates and a small one.... so bigger than the Lego Set Imperial Trading Post. Because the House of Lt. Carling is directly on a small island right beside the port where the row boats are.

Just won't license anything that until I made it look nice ;-)

I am very much looking forward to seeing it! I really enjoy builds inspired by the trading post (tried my own hand at one with the my Cutlass Cay hideout).

In passing I may say that you should not feel disinclined to use old bricks. My own collection is a strange mix of my childhood bricks, new sets, and BrickLinked parts. Many people here enjoy the classic look of classic bricks, and I personally find that discolouration of some bricks makes for nice texture! (totally not just looking for an excuse to use my discoloured bricks! ;))

Sounds good so don't have to invest 200 Euro for new bricks.

But just a little but I have to invest. Because I want a globe, some pictures on the walls and so on ;-)

I can not recommend Bricklink highly enough. Just compare prices, and check the terms and conditions of each store when it comes to postage costs - some try to rip you off in that field.

Also check out the Lego Store in Berlin. It has a fairly large "Pick a Brick"-section, which I frequently used in the past (and am about to do so again this week :pir-grin:). Chances are you find something useful, and you can't get parts any cheaper.

I'm so jealous right now!! Especially that small cup of green leaves.... My nearest pick-a-brick wall (and the only in Australia that I am aware of) is over 1100km away (13-15 hours drive..) Makes it really disappointing when they don't have anything good on the wall!

Yeah that's just a regular store. I mean the Lego Shop at Kaisereiche. I bought most of the new pieces for my Caravel from there for not more than 0,05 Cents per brick, some 0,10 Cents and so on, with a real big variety of new bricks.

I was also there buying two bricks I needed for total of 0,10 Cents ???

So that's really an easy way to fill up your own MOCs JUST with bricks you really need and for cents.

The 80's and 90's bricks still can make great MOC's don't limit yourself to a peticular style ...

Check out my distillery (very early in my BoBS game and fresh out of my dark ages) only a handful bricks from beyond 2003 in this build as I had not bought any new sets yet.

Aye, don't get too hung up about the age of parts. As long as they are clean - i.e. not covered in dust, which really drags down the look of a MOC a lot in my opinion - there is nothing wrong with using bricks older than the current Lego core demographic. Black and grey are also a nice basis to work off, most basic structures weren't fancy and colourful in the Age of Sail.

And last, but by no means least: going for "a more classic look" by using many old parts always warms my heart. Don't get me wrong: the variety in shapes and colours done by Lego over the last decade is awesome and all, but I appreciate the style of the 80s or 90s just as much.
