[Cor Aug FB1] Swordsmith, Port Woodhouse

Recommended Posts

Since arriving in Port Woodhouse a month ago, Dirk Allcock has been informally touring some of the new establishments in the settlement in his role as Governor. Once such establishment is the residence and workshop a newly arrived master swordsmith, Bjorn Carlson.Bjorn, his wife and son; have travelled from the northern Corlander town of Hvalfanghimr to establish themselves in the New World. On hearing that Port Woodhouse was a major base for both the Royal Navy and Corlander Army, Bjorn decided to set up his workshop and sell his wares to the soldiers and sailors of the garrison.

Accompanying Dirk is his trusted Sergeant Liam Gowan who is happy to show his beloved musket to Bjorn's son while the Colonel and swordsmith talk. Bjorn is telling Dirk of the unexpected landing his ship made on the island known as 'Gunpowder Island' to the north.

"We were experiencing a bad storm and the Captain of our ship, rather than press on for Port Woodhouse, sought shelter in a cove on the southern side of the island. It was unusual as the sand ofn the beach was as black as midnight. We landed a small party to seek fresh water and I accompanied them for no particular reason other than I had been stuck on the ship since departing King's Harbour. As the sailors filled some barrels at a creek, I took some interesting looking rock samples, geology being a hobby of mine. As we returned to the ship, we were set on by fierce natives without warning. The sailors and marines fought them off, but two of the sailors suffered wounds from their primitive weapons. During the fight, I lost my samples, but I believe that they were probably copper ore."

After saying farewell, Dirk returned to his residence thinking. The Gunpowder Island had been the subject of numerous rumours of late; strange bird-like creatures, monkeys and some nonsense regarding hallucinogenic bananas... Rumours of hostile natives and rich copper veins were also not new. Perhaps it was time Corrington send some strongly escorted prospectors to the isle to take a look....?

Sounds really interesting to me!

Well what can I say, Like Always it's a beautiful Moc with some really cool Details. Especially that you use the chimney Design (and Maybe that tea Thing I Used once) is pretty cool. Overall the shape of the Build reminds me of This

Keep Things Up! Really adorable Moc there :)

Another fine MOC from you! I particularly like how you used (and partially hid) that ornamental arch piece for the door on the upper level. Good job!

Incredible build! I am a sucker for how you build up those cliff sides with foliage or sand/earth. Interesting determination about the copper as well... can't wait to see more!

Thats a sweet little build. Very clean and tidy layout; very much as you would expect a swordsmith's house in RL. The detailing is very charming and very appropriate. It really radiates a nice and welcoming feel. :classic:

Landscaping and composition of this build is just great - the layout of the building with the sidewing for the furnace has come out great, and I like the detailing on the house. Another great technique is using tiles to smooth the curve of your landscaping - gives the impression of less height than plates. I will try this out at some point. The way you have integrated the large piece in the door on the upper floor is a great idea.

One thing that doesn't work entirely for me here is the roof on the upper floor. I think you have done well within the technique you have chosen, but I am not sure I think that works for a four-sided roof in this scale - the top also seems too flat. Don't really have any useful input as to how to improve it, though :P

Overall great build with many great details to steal... ehrrm, borrow :)

Lovely build, Ayrlego! The terrain is very well done, and the way it connects with the building is very natural. I also like a lot the colonial style of your buildings, sooner or later I should try something similar!
