Is the Jaguar set real? It's amazing, they finally did an 8 studs wide car, and the windscreen is 6 studs wide.

Yeah, looks like we're getting a new 6-studs wide windshield. Sadly it's probably printed..

I don't think it's printed. Anyway, even if it's printed, I'm sure it will come in a lot of other sets, just like the other Speed Champions windscreens.

PS: They made the front lights of the pace car the same way I did the front lights of my Chiron

Oh my, these are gorgeous! I definitely want the new four-seater for my city, it’s brilliant! I didn’t expect them to transition to 8-wide stud designs, though. I hope they don’t completely abandon the 6-wide vehicles. 8-wides are all good and well but I do appreciate how compact the familiar 6-wides are.

Im incredibly torn on that set

On one hand, they are very visually striking, the colour choice is just spot-on for a set like this, and i love building speed champions cars

On the other hand, i dont care about Formula-e at all, and i think the i-pace is ugly... (and tbh, the rear of the lego version doesnt look very good, the roofline looks straight out of 90s sets)

You know, I'm figuring we'll be seeing the windshield utilized for both of the Lamborghinis in the dual pack. :shrug_oh_well:

Hmmm, I not fond of this set. 8 studs wide? The SC cars are already out of scale when made 6 wide. I think 8 wide is way out of scale. But, I love the striking colour and livery! And I think it's great TLG has a new partner found in Jaguar.

In a previous post @Digger of Bricks posted this post. If the Jaguar set seems true, I truly hope the others are for real as wel.

The Brothers Brick - LEGO Adds Jaguar Formula E and I-PACE Vehicles to the Speed Champions Lineup [News]

Quote

Earlier this year, The Brothers Brick got an advance look at a prototype version of this set at LEGO’s headquarters in Billund, Denmark. These models are the first of the Speed Champions line to use a new 8-stud-wide design language.

Interesting that Lego uses poor FDM printing instead of SLA to prototype.

6-studs makes sense for cars because it's much more realistic when we can see the driver offset (even if there is no room for a passenger, but on the box art it looks like there may be).

Oh, and I hadn't spotted it, but is that a new slope part on the formula E? 4x2 with 2 studs? Yay!

Wider is actually more accurate, take the senna, it is 19x6 studs, the real car is 190 inches by 80 inches, meaning at 8-wide, it would be perfectly proportioned. The height (50 inches in real life), is also bang on at 5 studs.

8 wide is entirely out of style for speed champions though, the narrow width which produces a slightly too long and high look is what makes the series look the way they all do, for five years now.

8 studs wide change is a little bit annoying from a display perspective with all the models together.

i wonder if this is a one off - or the new norm

Pass on those now i seen them.

The tires are too small for 8 wide scale, looks bad just like the technic porsche.

I hope the other sets are 6 wide, else i'm done with the Speed Champions line.

I'm glad that they're working hard and bringing new ideas to Speed Champions each year, but as of now I don't like the 8-wide look.  That will make Speed Champions vehicles even less compatible with City, and it'll probably bump the base price from fifteen USD to twenty.  In my view, the only time you need an eight wide vehicle is if you're going to fit two people side by side, but I doubt that seating arrangement will come standard.  Still, that big ugly new chassis piece has studs on the side and has five studs inside the center section, so it's possible it may be designed for side by side seating.  Edit - that six wide windshield is nice though, should really improve six wide car MOCs.

Edit, just saw the Brothers Brick article.  It says that one of the reasons for the eight wide design language is to allow side by side seating and that the Jaguar has two seats in front AND two more in back!  That's a seating arrangement I've wanted in a Lego car since I was about ten ... TAKE MY MONEY!

Very interesting. Although I do kinda despair at the 8 wide design a little. Especially for the Formula E car. I feel it makes the real car look fat compared to other SC cars.

While fitting 4 figures in that Jaguar car is pretty nice, I hope the lamborghini set cars aren't 8 wide, and keep the similar scale to the F40 and 911.

The green Dakar Rally Mini from 75894 is also 8 wide chassis... I hope as other say, the rest of the line is in the 6-wide like the previous cars.

I really like the switch to 8 studs and I can understand the frustration of someone building the collection of 6-wide SC sets, but 8 studs really do look better proportionally. And side-by-side sitting is amazing. I don't have any SC sets, because I decided that they are too big for my city. Now, if 8-wide is going to be a new standard for SC, I'm going to start buying them as display models. I don't really need racing vehicles in my city anyway.

When Speed Champions started out in 2015, its six-stud wide standard was much larger and more detailed than the four-stud wide standard single-seat cars in City.  Once it was clear that Speed Champions was a big hit, single-seat cars in City started to use the six-stud wide standard in order to mix better with the Speed Champions cars for play.  (A four-stud wide police car doesn't have a change of outrunning a six-stud wide Ferrari, so the City cops got bigger cars to catch the speeders.)  I wonder if City will upgrade to the eight-wide standard in a few years?

I'm not sure if that switch to 6 studs in City did actually happen. Yes, I can see one car in the Capital City set that's 6-wide and one particular model of Police car that's 6-wide. But all the rest seem to be usual, as they have been for a long time now. 4 studs for passenger cars, 6 studs for jeeps, vans and trucks. 8 studs for large trucks. Just looked at the recent Donut Shop Opening, which features both 4 and 6 wide vehicles. I have doubts they will upgrade the city to 8-wide anytime soon. Because the buildings will look very out of scale. They will then need to go bigger with larger vehicles, too (like trucks). Which all can result in either raising the piece count in sets or over-simplifying them with larger parts.

Granted, it's not a change that's been applied across the board to every car in City.  There are still plenty of four-wide cars in City, and there were one or two six-wide City cars before Speed Champions.  I don't think it's a stretch, though, to speculate that the several six-wide police cars and sports cars in City since 2015 have been intended to go with Speed Champions cars better than their four-wide counterparts do.

Hmm. At first sight that Jaguar set looks great. But being 8 wide kinda puts me off. If they will make the other cars 8 wide as well I think I will stop buying them. Which is a pity because they are really great cars.
