[MOC][WIP] Toyota AE 86 (Initial D)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I present to you my next project: The AE 86 from Initial D!

Scale will be ~1:8, so the 86 will be ready to take on my NSX on the downhill

Features I am planning to include in this model:

-full suspension (double wishbone in the front, live rear axle in the back)

-6 speed manual transmission hooked up to fake engine

-HoG steering from rear Bumper, connected to steering wheel

-opening hood, doors, and trunk

-pop up headlights that pop up and down controlled from dash

All functions will NOT be motorized.

I hope you'll enjoy this Eurobeat fueled project, and I hope to keep you updated ;)

Here is a Pic of the transmission I designed for this model:

A super compact 6 speed manual transmission designed to fit unter the front seats.

It will be equipped to a shifting system similar to the one I developed for my Honda NSX.

First transmission proof of concept.

This post was modified to better introduce readers and remove outdated stuff, hope you'll understand :classic:

It will need a lockable diff and heaps of power in order to make it drift.. Unless you're Takumi.

I'll do the engine swapped version, so power won't be an issue

It’s probably from ali express. He uses non-lego pieces (or paint) in his builds.

Yup, you are right. I got these in black to get rid of the 2 light gray clips peeking out of the sideskirts of my NSX

For the rear axle, it's a four link + control bar, like this :

Man i love pics like these.. People should take pictures of the underneith of their car so when people are repairing them, they could see what they should be doing. What parts should be where.. How much room you have to add stuff ect...

To be honest I don't know  It's just a picture I found on internet...
I just posted it as I had some problem to find that when I built one AE86.
So you are probably true

This is quite a complicated setup to recreate in lego. There is no way I could get a solid axle even close to that thin, but I'll do my best. I'll probably have to run a support bar underneath the axle to the back of the chassis to keep everything stiff, as there is not much room for alternative reinforcements anywhere else. This might not be 100% accurate, but I'd rather have a clean Interior than a 100% accurate underbelly

Okay guys, it is update time!

I've made some good progress, here I go :classic:

IMG_20190803_202246.jpg

So I made the entire chassis, exept for the stuff surrounding the rear axle.

There will be supports going under the rear axle to keep everyting stiff.

Double shock setup in front.

Steering mechanics is moved all the way to the ground, and reinforcements out of the way to make room for aq nice and detailled engine bay.

I had to add a reinforcement bar above the engine to increase stiffness, but I think it will turn out looking great.

I used the same kind of shifting mechanism I already used in my NSX, but it was a lot easier to do this time.

Notice the Axle going past the shifting mechanism at the side, it will later connect the transmission to the fake Engine in the front!

Here is the shift controller, to make sure only the gears you want to can move.

And this is the center tunnel with shifter. The gears peeking out the side will be hidden unter the front seats.

Thats all for now, tell me what you think
