24 Mafia - Conclusion: 7pm to 8pm

The late senator's wife was crying about her husband and her recent lynch as Jack and Chloe discussed their findings on her in whispers.

7pm2.png

Bob was mopping the blood off the floor from a recently dead person in the armory. And then he heard the door.

7pm3.png

"Ah. Crap." And Bob the janitor was no more.

7pm4.png

Towards the bottom of the hour, Chloe found the dead janitor.

7pm5.png

At the top of the new hour, Chloe addressed the group. "I have no idea where Jack is, so I'll address everyone. Since Ms. Greene's husband was just, well, axed, and she's been lynched, I'm having to escort her from the building even though we did find her to be CTU (Town). It's just for your own safety. I also found Bob's corpse in the armory. Afteranalyzing him, I found he also was CTU (Town). So what's going on here?"

"I'll tell you!"

7pm6.png

It was Jason White (Kintobor). He pulled out a gun, as did his other Moles (Scum), Agent Moore (Kwatchi), Wilson Goddard (Asphalt), and Alfred Drew (Zepher).

"See, CTU is ours now. We've won."

Then, bullets started flying their way. Everyone turned to look where the bullets came from.

7pm7.png

It was an armed figure, decked out in super sweet gear.

"That's Jack Bauer!" Alfred shouted.

7pm8.png

Jack and the Moles quickly exhanged fire, but White moved to Chloe, putting his gun to her head. "Put your weapons down, Jack! Otherwise I'll shoot your only friend left! You're outgunned, don't do anything stupid."

7pm9.png

Reluctantly, Jack put down his weapons and surrendered CTU to the Moles.

7pm10.png

Thank you to everyone for playing, and congratulations to our Moles (Scum) winners, Jason White (Kintobor), Agent Moore (Kwatchi), Wilson Goddard (Asphalt), and Alfred Drew (Zepher)!

Wow. I think we played a pretty decent game but also had amazing strokes of luck. Kscary, we knew who you were, but killing the vig and especially the doctor early on were totally random. The vig can be a swingy role, doctor was really lucky to have out of the way especially as certain PRs became public.

Oh and of course: thanks for the great game, Kotz. I haven’t played in a long time (years!), and it felt great even if I’m busier now. I used to play really aggressively but I’ve learned to try to hold back a little bit more (at least as scum). Don’t know how I’d play town now. I’m a totally different person now, so it was fun to rediscover how to play!

@Kwatchi, pretending to have a plan on Day One and not following through on it can bite you in the megablocks; you're lucky it didn't.

@Zepher, @Kintobor, the way you ganged upon me on Day Two was some of the most insidious stuff I've ever seen.

Round of applause to the scum. You guys absolutely knocked it out of the park. It sucks that I started to get town vibes from Kwatchi after his rant. I should have stuck to my guts.

Senator Larry Greene (Khscarymovie4)
Senator Larry Greene is a Presidential hopeful. As part of your campaign, you've gone to the CTU building to meet the people there and get an understanding of national security.
Role: Cop. You can investigate players at Night to discern their alignment.

Last game, I saw fhomess actually give explanations for his night actions every night and then posted it all in the conclusion. Thought it might be fun to do. So today was pretty normal for a day 1 (hour 1). Nothing to odd, no real bandwagons, or odd sayings. Some people were very quiet as I mentioned in the thread. Latter on (if I still breathe) my actions will probably be more in line with the game and what not. For now I sort of have to pick a randy and choose. May be metagaming but going after experienced players is never a bad idea right? Bob and Lady K are always hard to decipher, lately they have been quiet which can lead to other forgetting there here. Others are like that as well but those too are the most experienced thus the most dangerous. I feel having some results on them will helpful. Either lower my guard if there town, or try and eliminate the if the opposite. Hopefully there not the Godfather and I assume them town the rest of the game. Either would do but I am going to

Investigate: Kaster (Lady K)

What a weird day. I have no idea why, but recently people who seem likely to be lynched on day 2 immediately give up. Last game it somewhat made sense because the person was new, I have no idea what happened today. I hope he is scum but I find it not likely as I doubt the scum would allow that to happen. On the other hand I don't know why any town member would do that either. I was unsuccessful last night which sucks as anything would have been useful. I assume I was blocked as I'm not sure what else could stop an investigation like that. Now onto who I should Investigate. Lady K is off the table for today, so that's one off my list. I suspect most scum were on the bandwagon today, but there are probably some that hid in other votes. Jamesn, Bob, Fhomess, Kwatchi, and Kristel all voted for other people. I think there's a safe bet there's a scum in there somewhere. Ok so I think I narrowed the list down to Bob, Fhomess, Kwatchi, Kristel, and Traiq J. Traiq J was added because of his scummy post, where he assumed I Investigated someone based off a joke. Honestly I feel like no scum would say that, it's just too out there. Though thinking about maybe it was to draw the attention of the investigator, me, to investigate Traiq J. Godfather perhaps? Super speculation but it's a thought. I don't like it either way. Jluck made an interesting point with the possibility of mediumsnowman being killed based of his pms. A couple people were mentioned in the PM's. Me, (I'm not on my list), jamesn (not on the list as he is dead), lady k (escapes the list because I targeted her yesterday), and Bob (he is on the list!). Well Bob did vote for someone else, and was mentioned in the PM's apparently. Bob has been quiet this game and is an experienced player which is dangerous. All this combined I think I should go for him tonight.

Investigate: Bob (Bob)

Note to self: bring up some of the points you found above  tommorow.

Ok this is coming in late, but I was a bit busy. I think it would be a good idea to go after one of the top suspects today. That leaves mostlytechnic, and legomonorailfan. I am going to go with LMF as some people have been at him for days, a town or scum result could definitely be helpful. Tomorrow I might try and actually get information out. I sure do hope the vig stays away from LMF.

Investigate: Benson (legomonorailfan)

My reasoning directly copied from my pm's with LMF.

I would also like your thoughts on my action tonight. The same people apply to my situation as well. I still think that a scum is likely to be outside the day 2 bandwagon. So it may be a good idea to look there as for me, nothing else has stood out. That leaves Kwatchi and fhomess. I think I am going to go with fhomess as I think she can be hard to read, having clarification on her would be good. What do you think about my investigation suggestion?

Sad to know that every single person I Investigated or attempted to Investigate was town. Hopefully this experience will improve my skills for a next time.

I'm honestly shocked I wasn't lynched earlier. I was playing scummy to try and get the investigator to pick me up, because I was the scum godfather. My ridiculously hard push for jamesn followed by some amount of silence was something I hoped would get their attention. Turned out we axed off the investigator before that could happen.

Thank you for the fun game, KotZ! I had fun!

Eh it happens. You want to see really scummy play? Look at the Mad Monster mafia Kinto hosted. That whole scum team was super scummy. At the risk of quoting that godawful meme "That's how mafia works." I think if you didn't let them get to you, you would've faired much better. Also, I loved you roleplaying. I'm a sucker for when people really get into their characters be it from what the host sent or just making a fun character quirk up. If you ever do come back to play, I'm definitely giving you a spot with a fun character.

Yeah, Kwatchi (and the scum overall) played a very good game. When was the last scum sweep? As for you investigating a town person every night, that's also sometimes valid. You were really hampered by the terrible night 1, you being blocked and the vig dying. If the town didn't lose those two power roles right away, I think you would've had some more fun.

Yeah, I don't know how you got skipped over with that scummy gameplay.

Below are my thoughts.

Overall, the game ran very smoothly. Much more so than Brickywood (sorry Shadows about that mess), and that one wasn't too messy in the end. I got this idea as in the first index there was a list of games that were coming soon, and I remember years and years ago there was supposed to be a 24-themed one, I think by Rick, but that never came to fruition. So I guess I kinda ran with it after messaging Dragonator about it. With how Brickywood went (that game's length was definitely an outlier), I almost wanted this game to get right down to the wire where it does take "24 hours" to finish the game, be it for scum or town. I also tried to keep this game as apolitical as possible. While 24 is very American, I know EB is a worldwide usergroup, and 24 when it aired had many criticisms for how it portrayed people, torture etc. So I tried to LEGO-ize it like the LEGO video games while still being "mature" for the setting and EB's generally adult forum. I think that went really well. I'm a big fan of 24 (as I noticed mostyltechnic was), so I tried to throw in some events/references from the show while alsonot alienating the players who may have never seen the show. I knew from the beginning I wanted Jack's hacksaw line, katana kill, and his rampage at the end. But dear lord is making mafia in LDD a nightmare. That was the most annoying part of running this game.

Next I feel like I need to address the situation of a player seemingly giving up on Day 2 for the second game in a row. Jamesn, please do not think I blame you or think bad of you. In fact, you had me dying with laughter every time you posted in character. But I totally understand what happened. You haven't played EB mafia in awhile, and it has a very specific meta (which was discussed in other threads) for better or worse. I think you were harped on because of your playstyle and being almost a newbie again as people haven't adjusted to your playstyle. Example, Lady K (to me) always plays scummy no matter what role she is. Shadows is always investigated or killed the first night because of how long he's been playing these games. There is unfortunately no 100% foolproof way to stop the metagame aside from anonymous games, and that would be taxing for every single game. It's been discussed in the discussion thread and such that maybe we need to do an anonymous game again (I would love that, Harriet Slutter was way too much fun and I really want Harriet Slutter 2 as well). That can definitely fix the issue. I do think the EB playerbase is pretty welcoming to newcomers (look at Asphalt) but we do have problems (in the past I'm sure I've been guilty) when it comes to voting out newbies so the vets can have their fun. Unless you're Shadows; then we just kill you.

Please don't think I'm trying to kick the can down the road because I don't have a great solution toi this issue. It's something I think we as a community need to come up with. One suggestion I've just had the idea for is more playing into the character traits. I keep going back to Harriet Slutter (sue me), but that game had each individual character having a unique character trait to play each day. If there was something like that in each game, that could maybe help fix the meta. With whacky, serious, realistic, unrealistic, etc traits, it could help balance the game for newbies. But that's also because I love when players get into their roles. It might not work, but that's just a thought I have right now.

As a side thought, I think the forum would do good to have more games, not just mafia. We used to have mystery games a looooong time back. I never ran one, never played one, heck never even really read them. That being said, I think it would do people good (vets and newcomers) if we expanded back into various game types, as it would help the newcomers "gain cred" and hopefully reduce overall meta.

Now on to the roles. Part of me wonders if I made the scum team too powerful, or if I put just too many PRs in the game (although like a third of them felt like they never got to be used). I'm still struggling to get the balance right in these games.

Jason White/Kintobor - Yeah, you were really scummy this game and I'm surprised you escaped a lot of scrutiny. You're consistently a good player and host so there's maybe not much more for me to add.

Wilson Goddard/Asphalt - Great job in your second game. I'm surprised some people didn't pick up on you.

Agent Moore/Kwatchi - Is this your first game in awhile? Either way very good job. Some people were fingering you but you always evaded them. You also had some good rolecop targets. That being said, the night you rolecopped jluck, you should have died. Luckily for you jluck was blocked.

Alfred Drew/Zepher - An incredibly well done job. While not the godfather, you really led the scum team to victory. I'm glad I've been able to host you in your previous two games

Kaster/Lady K - you seemed really quiet this game, although I know you mentioned you were sick. I wish you got to use your gladiator role, as I think I've still been th only person on EB to activate that ability.

Dr. James/Tariq J - You were also seemingly quiet this game, and I was hoping you'd use your commuter ability.

Riley Marshall/jluck - Like the previous two players, I really wanted your ability to activate, as it definitely would have caused confusion for both sides.

Barry Andropov/Kristel - I think we've played together years ago, and I think you did alright for the like two days you were able to play. Your death really hurt the town.

Sen. Greene/Khscarymovie4 - You were (un)lucky with your targets. I loved your reasonings and thoughts you put in your PMs to me. I also noticed after you investigated Bob you seemed to try to ping him with calling him to be your running mate in the thread. That was intentional, I'm guessing?

Diane Greene/fhomess - Very nice run for vanilla, but the tide was turned against you.

Zip/mostlytechnic - Similar to fhomess

Benson/LMF - I think in the thread you did alright, but unfortunately you targeted all the wrong people with your actions. But hey, it happens. You win some you lose some.

Officer Skinner/mediumsnowman - Sadly you were killed too early for my preference. Of course as vig mkilling night 1 isn't always advised, but I would love to know who you would target if you did. Your death hampered the town badly.

Officer LEwis/jamesn - Basically my entire thoughts regarding the metagaming and such are my comments about you. You didn't necessarily do anything wrong (I'd love for you to play again). I think you were a bit off in some of your suspicions, but your RP was gold.

Bob/Bob - I had to make you Bob. Maybe I've forgot your game, but you were really off this time, going after the wrong people.

That being said, I would gladly host and play with all of you again (duh).

Thanks for the game, KotZ!  I only saw some of 24, so I didn't get most of the references, but it was clear that you enjoyed the theme.  That came through in the storytelling.

I think the balance in this game, from a PR standpoint, was absolutely fine.  The fact that the scum took out two key town PR's on the first two nights and the investigator got blocked on night 1 aren't an issue with game setup.  That happens.  Games with lots of PR's (and I think this one was on the high end) just tend to be a bit swingy.

I have to say that I'm left wondering if Kwatchi's rant about vets killing off newbies was a scum tactic or genuine.  I told a few people why I didn't think that would ever be a scum ploy, and I have to say that I'm disappointed it may have been.

Despite the kind comments from KotZ, I didn't feel good about my performance this game.  I picked on a few scum, but the only people I really pushed on ended up being town.  Overall, great job by the scum team of pushing us in the wrong direction each day.

That was a fun game guys.  Absolutely nuts, but fun.  I wasnt sure how I was going to play this one since I caught a lot of heat for roleplaying and "fluff" last game.  With all of the agressive players I decided to go completely passive and just play along.  this was my second game and it had a completely different feel.  I like that about this game.  One thing I am starting to figure out is that there really isn't too much that cant be sold as a "scummy" action with a little bit of word play. That became really apparent there at the end.  Thanks for having me along for the ride.  I'm looking forward to the next one.

Just read the dead board, for the record The rules say no sharing PMs so I took that seriously and I googled LYLO.

did I really come off that dumb?

I kinda wish I had watched some 24 back in the day, I got absolutely none of the references and I think I screwed up KOTZs plan for my character.

Sitting in Iqaluit atm (had to fly up for work yesterday) with lousy internet so I’ll have to brief.

-Thank you for hosting Kotz.

-For the record ‘the rant’ was real and left me bummed out for a couple days.  Poor Fhomess was very sympathetic and got poorly used in the process.

-While the scum team played as best we could, this result came down more to luck than anything.  My surviving a role cop on a PGO thanks to the town blocker was extraordinary.

That is the key to EB mafia - it's possible to twist anything into sounding scummy, and then with the right pressure, convince others to agree.

Thanks for the fun game! Town got hugely unlucky and scum got lucky; it happens. DARN IT!

And I agree, I think it would be fun and helpful to have more forced "quirks" to help remove some of the meta-gaming and reading of people. Not sure quite how to make that work, since they need to be fun even for people who don't know the source material, but it'd be fun.
