HIDDEN SIDE - 2019

The boy is also standing in a kayak, so unless they chase Selkies and Kelpies, I doubt it's got anything to do with spooky things.

I think he's just crossing the water to the spooky looking house / castle in the background.

I can just imagine that image zooming out to reveal Scooby Doo and the gang. /facepalm.

Is that a bad thing? As long as the spooky locales and bad guy designs are good, the tone shouldn't really matter should it? Besides I think the Scooby-Doo-esque tone for spooky themes is a pretty good way to go in all honesty. It keeps things light and kid-friendly while still letting TLG deliver on the stuff that we all want.

It matters to me because kiddy stuff doesn't really appeal to me. It's potentially the difference between me buying the sets or not. I know that Lego doesn't care about that though and that's fine, but doesn't change my spending habits.

But then again, I may not have bought into this theme anyway. We'll just have to wait and see.

It'd also mean yet another licensed line where so many wish for another in-house theme.

I mean, in the grand scheme of things, there are very few themes that I wouldn't consider "kiddy". I guess there's Architecture, Technic, Forma, Model Team, Creator Expert, Speed Champions, and some of the licensed themes… but other than those, "kiddy" has pretty much remained the norm for LEGO in one way or another.

And if it were a licensed theme, they probably wouldn't have been allowed to share a teaser that didn't have a copyright disclaimer on the part of the IP owner (Warner Bros, Disney, Viacom, or whoever), no matter how cryptic it was about what IP it was referencing in particular.

I wonder if these will be teens, giving us access to the medium legs in new colors.  It could be worth that alone, which could feed nicely into a new Castle theme with dwarves / gnomes down the line.

Those who posted the image on sites like instagram speculated that the image shown may not be for the new TV series but instead to promote some sort of AR app/game on your phone (Hence the ghostly figure on the phone).

Have we had anything to confirm the image is advertising the TV series?

Lots of cool pictures here https://www.pocket-lint.com/parenting/news/lego/147078-lego-hidden-sides-augmented-reality

I love the Haunted School style set a lot, the backside is really detailed and still feels complete for an open-backed building.

Lots of great minfigs , and I love that it's just standard yellow, non-licensed minfigs + monsters, something that drew me to Nexo Knights.

Builds look really fun and innovative - even the tree on the graveyard has plant elements attached at interesting angles and shapes. Looking forward to the train - it's about time we had another ghost train from Lego!

It's an interesting idea how this all takes place on a school campus. But am I the only thinking its weird a school has a graveyard? :laugh_hard:

Awesomesauce! Definitely further reinforces the Gravity Falls vibes I got from the initial teaser image, but it's also reminding me of other stuff I've seen that I can't quite put a name to at the moment. It definitely manages to stand out really nicely from past spooky/paranormal themes like Monster-Fighters, Scooby-Doo, and the Studios Monsters series, but also incorporate a lot of similar sorts of appeal to themes like those as well as some of the "magic school" vibes of the Harry Potter theme and the level of detail I would typically associate with Friends sets.

On that note, part of me DOES wish it were a mini-doll theme to take the place of Elves, since it definitely seems like a theme with some parallels to series that are popular with girls like Harry Potter, Monster High, and Lumberjanes (which i read the first volume of this week — really good stuff!)

I also suspect this will be popular with parents since some of the academic and science-y aspects of the school and science lab sets align well with the current popularity of brands that encourage an interest in STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). And even more fantasy or sci-fi sorts of series like this one can really help cultivate such interests.

The school set is really cool and it sort of looks like some of the monstery elements like the claws might fold up inside for a more inconspicuous look, which is a really rad feature if so! I hope the AR game is more engaging to me than the Nexo Knights app was, though I would probably be able to enjoy the theme even without it, as would many kids. Wonder what other supporting media might be in store.

@Kevii23 I think that's just Spring Yellowish Green, which is very frequently mistaken for glow-in-the-dark. Unless LEGO intends to replace their current glow in the dark color (Glow White), since that tends to appear much more white than green in the level of light seen in that photo. Also, if I had to guess, I'd say the eyes probably fold in behind the center tower — note the Technic axles with studs behind the balcony which could be a hinge point connected to the eyebrows, and the clock on the center tower which might drive the transformation mechanism (turning the school into its monster form at midnight, perhaps!)

@Guyon2002 I think the school is separate from the graveyard. From the description in the press release the setting of this theme will encompass a whole town and not just the school in particular.

*gasp* I need that 3D printer printed piece! Over that and some of new pieces I have no interest in this.

Are those glow in the dark (official name is “white glow”) pieces on the high school?

Looking at the video that cropped up on Instagram, all the sets look really cool. Overall I really like the spooky vibe this theme seems to be going with, very similar to Gravity Falls and Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. type shows, especially the graveyard. Seems like this'll be the first wave of sets I buy in its entirety since the Sky Pirates from Ninjago.

My god these look amazing!!!

Love them all!

Thanks LEGO for trying something new and innovative for an house theme.

It seems this will be a worthy successor of Monster Fighters

Hope it will last more than just 1 wave.

They're launching an app with it, which has generally meant plans for 2 - 3 years if it's a big bang theme, so here's hoping this is. Honestly I'm in love with the idea of a theme like this. I missed out on Monster Fighters back in the day since it came during my dark age, so being able to get some sweet horror-esque sets will be fantastic.

Also, there's plenty of locations for a theme like this to go, so hopefully this is only the beginning. :excited:

According to pocket-lint.com:

"You don't get ghost mini-figures in the box, for example, although included characters can be "possessed" by replacing their heads. Instead, the ghosts are supplied through AR and it feels as if the phone is the portal into a different world."

Too bad, I like plastic ghosts...

Holy! These looks darn good! I'm getting a Scooby-Doo & Monster Fighters combo vibe here. I really dig the monster gimmick in the structures and seeing glimpse of the other set, they looks awesome too! The details in the minifigures draws me good (especially the "possessed" teacher!), they're amazing!

This theme will definitely be in my "picking up" list!
