The diploma wording isn't correct, but even in the movie you don't see it well but you can tell it's not this printing. They reference Dr. of Thinkology in the film and that should be on the diploma. It just seems really generic for licensed figures, but it's definitely not as big of an issue as the hat rope that's suppose to be green.

Thanks for another amazing review WhiteFang. I like the new white base plates, classic space logo on Benny’s toolbox and huge amount of spare pieces. I’m glad LEGO have ceased with the “chase” character and made this a fair and perfect distribution. My only dislike is UniKitty which is not technically a Minifigure and that 20th spot could have gone to something else.

The equal distribution does not surprise me, considering that's how it's been with all the other 20-to-collect movie series (TLBM, TLNM, and TLBM S2). I don't know why anybody was expecting a chase figure in this one.

While Unikitty isn't technically a minifigure, note that the packaging on this series doesn't in fact even use the word "Minifigures". It just has The LEGO Movie 2 branding and list contents of "1 LEGO character" rather than "1 LEGO minifigure". To be honest, I don't see any problem with Unikitty's inclusion. After all, she was a very popular character in the original LEGO Movie. And it's always felt a little pretentious and trivial to me the way a lot of LEGO fans seem to get hung up on which characters in any given theme do or don't count as minifigures, as if that has any bearing on how valuable/important/interesting they are.

I do wish that Unikitty used the new style of neck attachment, and am pretty surprised that she doesn't, considering that the ones in other LEGO Movie 2 sets do. It's also a bit of a bummer that she doesn't have more distinctive colors or patterns, but at the same time I understand why LEGO probably went with this approach, since so many of the Unikitties in the other LEGO Movie 2 sets are themselves much more specific variants, and it's nice to have an easy way for kids who missed out on the original LEGO Movie sets to get her in this more classic look. Perhaps she might have felt a little more unique if she were in a sitting pose (which does not appear in other LEGO Movie 2 sets), or came with an alternate facial expression.

But overall I think this series looks very impressive! Like the LEGO Movie theme as a whole it has a nice balance between more colorful, cheerful, feminine-coded designs and gritty, aggressive, masculine-coded ones. Compared to the original LEGO Movie series, this seems to include a wider range of the LEGO Movie universe's major characters. The first series simply had new versions of Emmet, Lucy, President Business, and Bad Cop, whereas this one also adds Benny, Unikitty, and a second version of Lucy. But like that previous series, it also finds room for about 6 minifigures who seem as though they could have just as easily shown up in a non-branded series: Giraffe Guy, Watermelon Dude, Crayon Girl, Candy Rapper, Kitty Pop, and Hula Lula. This series will also go a long way to helping builders populate Apocalypseburg with its humorous re-imaginings of more mild-mannered secondary characters from The LEGO Movie.

From a storytelling standpoint, Flashback Lucy is quite interesting as she gives us some new insight into just why Lucy hated the song "Everything as Awesome" so much and went through so many different phases to try and reinvent her identity. I think that and her colorful, fashionable design help elevate her to my favorite minifigure from this series. Gone Golfin' President Business is a funny and highly detailed character redesign as well, and the golf club will be very welcome in future sets and MOCs. The Wizard of Oz characters also bring forth a lot of nostalgia for me, since I really loved those books as a child.

I suspect my brother and I will just be buying a whole series of these (pre-identified) online as we have for the LEGO Batman Movie and LEGO Ninjago Movie series, since that tends to be cheaper and easier than buying on impulse at brick-and-mortar stores. I'm in no rush, though. There are plenty of other LEGO Movie 2 sets and LEGO Ninjago sets I'm excited to get this year!

The two most recent series have had a chase character, so it could have been the start of a new trend and very possible to think they’d continue. That in itself is more than enough reason for some fans to be a little sceptical.

I hope in a future interview someone will be able to ask what the heck is up with the manufacturing of this series, and why some has moved away from China. We assumed it was all about including Unikitty, but apparently she doesn't even come in one of those clear bags inside of the bag, and it looks to me that some of the other figures originate from Europe and not China also. Very odd, but also welcome.

Your review doesn't leave me with any more to say than I've said before in the general discussion about this series, unfortunately. I'm just super disinterested in the majority of the figures here. I've always been an a la carte minifig buyer, with no particular focus, and with this series very few strike my fancy. I'll pick up the Wizard of Oz figures both for nostalgia's sake and because they're nicely done with good accessories too, and maybe just one or two others.

Traditional and licensed series have always been good to me, but with this one and Disney 2 on the horizon, I'm now counting myself amongst those eagerly awaiting the next normal, varied series.

This is a below average series to me!

The pros is that we are getting spares of some parts and I know a lot a people will like the distribution in the box.

Now to the mostly cons:

Awesome Remix Emmet is in more or less every set and brings noting new to the party here. 1 point for the fig and 2 for the accessories 3/10
Battle-Ready Lucy is in several sets and brings noting new to the party here. Should have included something to shot the arrows with, 1 point for the fig and 1 point for the head piece 2/10
Apocalypse Benny is in several sets and brings noting new to the party here except maybe some space fans love the tool box. 1 point for the fig and 2 for the toolbox 3/10
Giraffe Guy is the only fig that gets top marks from me! A very nice looking fig, well made and with a useful plant accessory with a extra. 8 for the fig and 2 for the accessories 10/10
Crayon Girl is not the best costume character and we just got a series of them, do we really need 3 here.. 4 points for the fig and 1 for the accessories 5/10
Sherry Scratchen-Post & Scarfield hurts my eyes with this abomination of a animal mould, why did we not get a new crookshanks mould in the WW series instead of this?! 3 for the fig and 1 for the "cat" 4/10
Hula Lula is one of 4(!) band members, waste of space..1 point for the fig and 1 for the accessories 2/10
Watermelon Dude is not the best costume character and we just got a series of them, do we really need 3 here. 6 point for the fig and 1 for the accessories 7/10

Some good parts in this series for sure and some nice figs that will be generically useful outside of TLM.

Interested in Emmet (maybe) for the hair, music player and coffee cup.

Definitely interested in Benny for the face, toolbox and torso with metal arm.

Giraffe guy is cool and a must-have (there are other animal costumes I missed and wish I had gotten like the gorilla guy)

Crayon girl will go great alongside my other costumed figures.

Watermelon guy will go great with all the other food costumes.

Flashback Lucy is cool for the out-there hair alone, let alone the printed tile and that outfit.

Candy Rapper has even more awesome out-there hair (pink hair isn't exactly easy to come by in LEGO) plus the cassette tape and outfit (maybe I will even end up with more than one)

Gone Golfin' President Business is great and if you replace the hair and head it fits perfectly in any city context. Will definitely be seeking out multiples of this guy if I can.

Kitty Pop is another cool pop star with another cool outfit (makes me think of the old Josie and the Pussycats cartoon plus that guitar is just awesome and I need it for my guitar collection)

Dorothy is great and worth having (even though I am not a dog person :)

Lion is cool too and would definitely work for a "lion suit guy" with a face swap.

Scarecrow is great and worth adding as is Tin Man (both because they are cool and to get the whole set of characters)

 

Interesting that Unikitty isn't using the design from the previous Unikitty collectable line with the new 1 x 3 inverted tile that makes things look cleaner and helps hold the head in place. I wonder why that is.

Thanks for sharing. I guess they might want to represent it in a generic manner.

Agreed that Unikitty would be better in exchange for another minifig design. On the other point, I don't think TLG would ever cease the idea of placing a 'chase' minifigure. From a marketing standpoint, it might further fuel the hype and anxiety in the market.

You have clearly suffered the traditional withdrawal symptoms of CMFs Series 17.  

On a serious note, I find it quite puzzling that majority of the EB community had quite a high dislike towards this CMFs. I didn't take part in the general discussion and I also avoiding seeing detailed images of this CMFs whenever possible, so I can be "surprised" while I am doing this review. I honestly felt this CMFs is pretty strong in its own way. I had much difficult reviewing experience on even more specialised themes such as Simpsons and DFB for example. So, this in a way is still original and it belongs to LEGO imagination building on its strong foundation of LEGO Movie. 

On the manufacturing part, I am also curious too. Let's see if any other sites would have posed this question next time.

My personal favorites from this series are the Wizard of Oz figs and the Apocalypseburg figs, but especially Apocalypseburg Abe Lincoln... that version of Abe is perfect for an "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter" MOC or vignette. :D  (Yes, I actually liked that movie, lol)

Another great review by WhiteFang, as usual. I was waiting for it and it did not disappointed me.

Unlike Robert8, I think that the popsingers are not so bad, you can create a pop band with girls playing in a park with many teenagers, as in real life...don't we all know the Spice Girls?? It could be something similar, 20 years after their (unique) hit!!

But, of course, the most extraordinary parts of this Series are the characters of the Wizard of Oz, as we celebrate 80 years of that beautiful film. They are so similar to the original ones!!

Taking about costume characters, at first I did not like them and I did not buy. Later, as I wanted to have all the series completed, I had to pay some high prices to obtain them (after refusing so much of them with the touch and feel methods). At least, I can say I have all the series completed, and waiting for February to obtain this one!! Ideas for storing them? I have big green baseplates as WhiteFang, where I can show all of them! (Just a note, in the last paragraph, when you list all the series, you forgot the DFB Football Series, which you have included in the photo).

Just a suggestion: Review the Olimpic Games Series. I know it was "regional" and only included 9 minifigures and it is from 2012. But you have its bag in the display of all the bags and they are minifigures. If you accepted to review Unikitty Series... I had to make (economical) efforts to obtain also those figures!!

And also waiting for CMF Series 19!!

I'm glad there's variety in this CMF. Something for everyone, a bit like how previous CMF sets used to be. I prefer them over sets like Series 18 or Monsters series.

And it's nice to see 3 of each. None of that chase minifig bs.

There's only 1 minifig which is a must-buy for me. Golfing president. An awesome addition to my collection of CITY themed folks.

Emmet's dual molded hair+headphone piece is one new element I really like. But my dislike for Emmet's awfully bland minifig design really bugs me. I'll wait for the hairpiece to appear on BL instead.

I will most likely buy Dorothy too, for the short sleeved light-flesh arms and cement colour dog.

And what about Scarecrow's head? Tan or bright light yellow?

I noticed a lot of dual molded parts this time! Even hips are dual molded now!
While this is good news for almost everyone, the monochrome enthusiasts (like me) are disappointed.

I didn't watch that movie before but I wanted to make a reference to it. I am concerned no one might really know this movie well, including myself.

Thanks Herisanmi. Much appreciated and the reference of Spice Girls. A friend of mine had suggested that it is also a Spice Girls with great relevance. You are the second one to point it out. I like the Pop Band singers to give us much vibrancy and colours. 

Just to let you know, I had displayed everything including DFB. Please look carefully. The only ones which I didn't place inside, is the Team GB minifigures. That's also the only CMFs which I had never done a review on, due to the fact that I had never acquired a full box. I had a full series in my own collection which I separate from my regular CMFs display. 

Can't wait for CMFs Series 19. But is this the upcoming for the next CMFs right after this?

Holodoc, what is dgb stands for? Tin Man's hand is matt grey. It's different from the torso and legs. You meant hips as legs? Right? 

The Scarecrow's head is similar to your Voodoo Wooden Jack Sparrow polybag. It is more of a light tan colour tone.

Thank you for the review, WhiteFang! I’m excited to get my hands on these. 

Lots of interesting things in this series. Namely, the new bags, extra pieces, and the inclusion of Unikitty. Not that I mind her being in this series, but I would have rather had an actual minifigure than a brick-built character. Loving most of the other inclusions, such as the Wizard of Oz characters. They all look very well-made and accurate.

With a bow, Battle-Ready Lucy will join the forest village. With a spear, Sherry Scratchen-Post will join the Amazons. Scarfield and the Cowardly lion will go with the other good creatures in the forest. With wings and wands, Hula Lula, Flashback Lucy and Candy Rapper will be turned into fairies. It was surprisingly good, and vampire shenanegans aside, it held very close to actual history, which certainly impressed me.  Like I said, I need at least one Apoc Abe for use in my own setting as !Vampire Hunter Abe. ;)

Yes, you are right, you reviewed the DFB Football players!! I did forget!! It was so difficult (impossible) to identify them by touching that I preferred to buy a complete set on the net. Some players were identical!!

I understand, you cannot give a complete review as you do not have the full box and you cannot tell us the distribution (which, in fact, continue to be a secret, we do know why some of them are more expensive!!). However, it would be also interesting to review the minifigures for the pleasure of just reviewing them and putting together with other similar minifigures. Just an example: the boxer. After that series we have a woman boxer and the variant available in Toys'r'Us last year!! 4 boxers, it is possible to create a play-off: semifinals and the final!! Just a suggestion, if you have time, it would be an interesting addition to your complete review!!

Finally, if you do not know what type of series will follow this one...we, the average mortars, cannot even have an idea!!

I find this series to be a 4 out of 5 stars, a couple of great minifigs (giraffe and watermelon) mask the fault of many who...bah..., but sure is great to see the wizard of oz characters, and they saved this series.

Apocalypse Sherry Scratcen-Post & Benny as well as Battle-Ready Lucy & Vest Friend Rex are probably going to be some of the few multiples of actual figures I'm going to get from this series, and they will all go to the various Wastelander factions (both raider gangs & settlers trying to defend themselves from said raiders) in my setting.  Benny & Rex especially so: The Classic Space/Futuron faction of the space theme were the North American Union's space force back in the days before the Final War (a.k.a. the in-universe representation of when me & my brother got rid of most of our LEGO sets back in 1995, something I still regret to this day), so having people roaming the wasteland with a beat-up version of said pre-war uniforms would be perfect.  In Rex's case, his vest strongly resembles the uniform jacket of heavy weapons/support troops in the Federal Republic of America's Army, but with the sleeves ripped off, which again, would be the sort of thing one might expect to encounter in the wastelands beyond the borders of the Federal Republic.

Apocalypse Abe Lincoln (or as I like to think of him, Vampire Hunter Abe) will be the second-in-command of the Lone Star Republic's elite Texas Rangers division (second in terms of both authority & raw power only to the mysterious man known only as Lone Wolf or the Walker), although I'm going to be BrickLinking another one of the Tin-man's axes for him, since it looks more like the silver-plated axe used by Abe in the movie, "Abraham Lincoln:  Vampire Hunter".

Swamp Creature is going to be another figure I'll be making multiple purchases of, due to the fact that they would make great front-line troops for the Nurgle-worshipper sub-faction of the Hordes of Chaos in my setting.

I'm also going to be getting all of the Oz figs just because.  Not sure if I'm going to include them in my main setting somehow, or just put them on the PennLUG train layout at shows we attend..

As for the rest...  I'm probably going to BrickLink multiples of the Crayon Girl, Flashback Lucy, Candy Rapper, Hula Lula & Kitty Pop's heads & possibly hair pieces, due to always being on the lookout for new & varied female minifig heads (I've ALMOST achieved gender parity with my minifigs, but I still need more females to balance it out), and Candy Rapper's head might work better for my updated sig fig than the current one I have on her (the one from the CMF Figure Skater).  I also will probably be BrickLinking the plants from the Giraffe dude & Emmet's smartphone tile piece, as well as the record tiles from Flashback Lucy & Hula Lula & Candy Rapper's cassette tape tile.

President Business, Unikitty & Watermelon dude are honestly the only figs out of this series that I have absolutely no use for them or their accessories.

I suppose lots of use are quite upset with the inclusion of Unikitty and I find it very hard to justify why I need another generic Unikitty which is over and above Emmet (slightly better since he come with 2 accessories).

I can look into it for Team GB but it will not be my reviewing priority at this moment. I have plans for other sets which I like to cover especially on my recent purchases in the past 2 years. I had too much backlogs and it will definitely take quite some amount of time. Nonetheless, Team GB is still within my radar and I will find a chance to complete in a fair appropriate manner. It is a fact that I do not know what comes next.

Well it looks like Kroger doesn't care about street dates. My local store put out a cardboard box of the movie sets. Mostly set under $10 is in this display. And today I took the time to check the mini-figure series in detail. I get the feeling some one already went through the display. Because I spotted the display a few days earlier. But I noticed some "plastic washers" holding mini-figure series in place for shipping. Plus, their was no price tags, and I thought their might be "Kroger Tax" at the time. 

Any how, spotting some price tages today. I end getting benny, Benny, BENNY & the gain from OZ. Unfortunately, I didn't find "Abe the Vampire Slayer" I probably would of gotten that one too. ( @WhiteFang I think you are going to have to make picture of Abe beating up some vampires.  ) Also, I might have to get the costumed figures along with "golfing president".
