Bricklinking Death Star II

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

After previously brickling the dropship with AT OT, I set out to bricklink another, this time being the UCS Death Star II.

For a used one, the cheapest on bricklink goes for around 800 AUD, and I managed to get one for 600 AUD in total.

There are many older parts that are very expensive but can be swapped for cheaper ones.

I have managed to build the internal structure but I'm still waiting for more parts to arrive.

unnamed

There will be more updates as the rest of the pieces arrive :)

Congrats on brickling the DS II.  I did the same several years ago.  It's an interesting build, but the "unfinished" hemisphere can be somewhat tedious to build.

Especially when you have to build them twice...

Do you have any plans to modify the original build? Whether to avoid using rare parts or to improve the build in any way?

I have substituted the rarer parts with cheaper ones to save on the cost, and later I think I will add an interior to it.

Still waiting for the final bricklink order to arrive and i'll be able to finish it.

Thank you! I'm hoping to start collecting parts for this and will be sure to update my wanted list accordingly.

Can you show the swapped parts on the final model?

Sorry, but what do you mean by that?

If you mean the rarer parts that I replaced to make it cheaper there is a list I made somewhere in this post.

The finished model looks exactly the same as the original model, most of the parts swapped out are internal and don't affect the final looks of the model.

Thank you for the list! We're also in the process of bricklinging it; it will be very helpful.

No problem! Good luck!

I will probably bricklinking it someday, because I find the complete set very overpriced nowadays.

Agreed! Good luck bricklinking!

Managed to find my other reference list I used whilst bricklinking the set, which replaces a lot more pieces. @ClassicLook @czbotond

41855 Brick, Modified 2 x 2 x 2/3 Two Studs, Lip End Black - long out of production.  Change to 47457 DBG

6538b - update to new style axle connector 59443 (Black throughout)

32064 Black Technic, Brick 1 x 2 with Axle Hole

Left as black - but you can get DBG cheaper I think (penny in it)

32034 Blue Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Angled #2 - 180 degrees

Rare colour - change to LBG

52038 Dark Bluish Gray Brick, Modified 2 x 4 - 1 x 4 with 2 Recessed Studs and Thick Side Arches

Rare - switch to 14520

Dish 10x10 rare, but available from Lego.

Mini lever (LBG base and handle), replace with black lever handles.

Pearl Dark grey technic lift arm 1x15 - turn to Dark bluish grey

32192 Red Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Angled #4 - 135 degrees

32555 Technic, Brick 5 x 5 Right Angle (1 x 4 - 1 x 4) Red -> Black

3937 Tan Hinge Brick 1 x 2 Base - Tan is rare.  Any other colour (Black, DBG)

30364 Hinge Brick 1 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger Vertical End Tan

Changed to black (Tan unique to the set virtually)

30365 Hinge Brick 1 x 2 Locking with 2 Fingers Vertical End LBG

Rare - changed to: DBG (other colours might suit, or possible 1x2 plate with fingers)

Technic 3L Pins to blue

32184, 6632 - red - should these change?

32015 Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Angled #5 - 112.5 degrees

Tan -> Black

Do note to replace part 2413 with the newer ones (14181), I failed to notice that and paid an extra $40 as there were 16 of them :wall:

Definitely smart to swap out some of the parts that can't be seen to the naked eye!
