Illumination's behind this? And they're trying to get the original cast back? For an animated movie that's literally going to be a retelling of the first movie? :hmpf:

This just reeks of laziness.

I don't think it's gonna be a hard reboot like everyone is thinking. Most likely a soft reboot, meaning same continuity and cast, but a fresh start for the new generation since it's been a while since the last film.

I mean it's only been 8 years (around 10 when the film comes out) since the last one. That's not too long. There is no reason to remake Shrek. If they have more ideas they should just make a Shrek 5, though if Illumination is in charge then obviously they have nothing new in store. Pixar and Disney continue to make fun animated movies that can leave you with a warm feeling yet a broken heart. Illumination pumps out brain cell removers constantly and are now becoming a big name in animation. I believe they are more popular then DreamWorks right now, sad.

Couldn't they just re-release the original movie in theaters? That seems like the cheaper / easier option and movies do get re-release occasionally. Part of me wonders if this is not some sort of rumor...
