Writing for Peace

Recommended Posts

In his office Muakhah prepares to write letters to the many important figures across Kaliphlin.  Hoping to ease the tensions between the Desert King and the High Council.

 IMG_1664.jpg

A warrior priest of Mazadar, clad in the gold and white robes that mark him out as a warrior of the light, peruses the tomes.

 IMG_1665.jpg

“Take one of the books with you on your travels as you spread the word down the Oil Road to Petraea.  If you can then continue to Barqa as an emissary of Mazadar.  My letters should have preceded you.”

 IMG_1666.jpg

“I will, Holy One.Said the Priest, turning to the wall.

 IMG_1667.jpg

“Now to the task of writing.”

 IMG_1668.jpg

To my Liege, Ark’Mora Raa, The Desert King, Undying Pharoah and Blessed of Mazadar.

Grant us thy wisdom in this troubled time and let us know your plans and instructions for the future.  Your realm is not yet settled but much can be achieved through peaceful methods.  The people are weary of war and would be swayed by your wisdom and generosity.  I would council you to make overtures to Lords Dugal Maclean of Eastgate and Gideon of Barqa.  These men are renowned for their virtue.  Win them to your side with demonstrations of your noble desire for peace.  Similarly Peregrinus to the East of Kaliphlin might be brought into the fold with words rather than swords.  Once my liege has demonstrated his quality and strengthened the realm, the enemies of Ark’Mora Raa, peace and Mazadar will be much diminished and to walk in the Light will be that much easier.

Your Humble servant

Muakhah of Khadira

To Erudhalion, Lord of Peregrinus

Greetings to the master of the eastern seas.  We hope that Berigora thrives in these troubled times.  I write to you as a servant of Ark’Mora Raa, to convince you of his generosity and kindness.  Now that the wars are all but over the Desert King seeks to rebuild Kaliphlin to her prior greatness.  His offer of clemency remains.  All shall be forgiven and forgotten that we may rebuild together.  Help the Desert King to restore trade, peace and prosperity to the Eastern Seaboard and be known for your wisdom.

Your Friend,

Muakhah of Khadira

To Gideon, Lord of Famed Barqa

All of Historica knows of your wisdom and temperance.  Your nobility and compassion.  The endless struggle to do what is right in an unrelenting world.  Whether you acknowledge it or not you walk in the Light of Mazadar when you do good upon this world.  Barqa, under your stewardship has become a beacon of all that the Desert King requires.  A place where all can live and work in peace and safety.  This is what Mazadar desires for the world.  Our path to paradise lies in building a paradise in this life.  I entreat with you to open communications with the Desert King, that you may see and know and understand his vision.  Great days lie ahead of us, should we make them happen.

May you continue in the light.

May you tip the scales.

Most sincerely

Muakhah of Khadira

To Lord Dugal Maclean of Eastgate

Noble Lord Maclean, your courage and deeds in these times are famed throughout the land.  You inspire the people and have struggled for peace and justice.  I entreat you to struggle no more against the Desert King, who understands your desire to do what is right.  Mazadar calls upon us to choose right action, and I believe that in your heart you know that with your help the Desert King can set Kaliphlin upon the right course. The Desert King respects quality and wishes not to crush the High Council like a tyrant but to bring you to his councils and hear your wisdom.  Let the conflict pass by so that we may focus upon healing the scars of years of war.  Share your thoughts with the Desert King and come to an accord, that we may live our days in peace.

Most Humbly

Muakhah of Khadira

The letters were sent out.  But would any listen or take note to the entreaties of an isolated place like Khadira?

IMG_1663.jpg

OOC: So this is where Muakhah works for now.  Making the furniture was most fun in this small build.  One of the kids I teach brought in this Lego Golden Dragon Master and I immediately thought this would be perfect for the Warrior Priests of Mazadar.  I know White and Gold are Varylian colors.  But they are so holy!  On the wall is the symbol of Mazadar. The White and Gold Dragon of Light.  I will try and feature it more in another build or two.

Its a very simple build but I wanted to make something to establish the Warrior Priests of Mazadar and to get some story going between people.

@SkaForHire

@Gideon

@Gabe

I would love it if you guys made some response letter opening/reply as a kind of back and forth between characters.  I think we are all waiting to see what kind of leader the Desert King will be and how other leading figures will react to him.

@Maxim I I didn't include a letter to Mypa Stedor as in a post I think you hinted it had been destroyed or there had been some mystery.  Of course once the truth is known I can make another build and write another letter!

Cheers!

Real nice job with this build, I especially like the paper built into the desk - nice touch!  Neat to see an actual Kaliphlinian supporting the DK too, although of course I ardently wish the High Council reject all mummiferous overtures.

Nice vignette, and I love the letters. I have no love for the DK (although I do enjoy the Mystic Isles, his unintentional gift to Avalonia) but this is a good attempt to try to get Kali on the same page. The walls are a bit too tan when combined with the floor for my taste, but the furniture is certainly nice. The book storage rack is unique, as most people would opt for a simple shelf rather than a cupboard or whatever the technical term for that piece of furniture is. Good luck uniting the clans!

Very interesting build! I like the clean feel of the office. There are several small details that I like!

I like the quill holder and the parchment built into the table to make it seem flat, those are nice touches. Personally I feel the tan floor and walls looks a bit odd, I think I'd have chosen another colour for the floor to give the room a bit more variety.

I really liked reading the letters, they were well written.

Nice work!

How mummiferous is the Desert King these days? On a scale of 1-10? I thought building the paper into the desk would differentiate a sheet from a stack of letters.

It seemed like a more interesting and character building way than just asking in the guild discussion. I hope it causes some mini builds of letter opening and replies or reactions so we can understand different characters better.

Thanks! My first go to color with Kaliphlin is tan but now that I am sorting through my bricks here and finding what else is available we should see some more variety! I thought a rack for special weighty tomes.

Very nice Vignette, the furniture is especially good.

Thanks! I had a lot of fun making a few pieces. I used some guides. I’ll link them if I find them again.

I imagine the officials further down have messier offices! I’m glad the small details came out well.

Glad people like the writing desk and stuff. Now I have sorted more tiles I will experiment with more interesting floors. It does look quite plain and strange with the long tiles. Glad you liked the writing, hopefully more to come.

Thanks all! Let’s see whether people reply!

The moc is full with some nice details! So well done!

Hope to see the answers from the other! :=)

Great little vig!  I really like the use of the books and the printed piece on the wall.  I think the level of detail here is really high, with the white paper on the desk, the scone and teapot on the small cabinet, the candles, etc., but at the same time this still appears to have the desert setting with clean square lines, and a simple interior floor and walls.  It strikes a great balance between too much and too little detail.  Very cool story, too, to help collaboratively establish the story with the desert king.  Great job!

Neat interior that along with the story gives a strong sense of what your character is like
Very cool bookshelf that works well for the new book elements, and the cabinet in the back corner is just as nice :classic:

Cheers! I didn't want it to appear too cluttered, but at the same time to keep some details.  I'm hoping for collaboration regarding where the story goes.

Glad people liked the story and the character.  I can't take credit for any of the furniture. I remade or modified pieces based on a bunch of tutorials you and your brother posted! I read up on all your furniture building techniques and saw what I could do with my bits.  In my opinion everyone should  Read These Tutorials!

Nice vignette and good idea to communicate in character in this way

I'm not good at writing in character but the response from the Council of Barqa (which I should MOC some day, maybe when they are discussing the response?) is that Barqa is open for trade again with Sultan's Gate as long as the Desert King allows for the river barges to once again travel between Mitgardia and Barqa unhindered. Trade is the lifeblood of Kaliphlin!

I never welcomed you to Kaliphlin, but I'm glad you joined us.

Like others have said, incorporating the paper into the desk is extremely clever, and is an idea that I will likely steal for future MOCs.

Thanks Gideon, Glad to hear that Barqa is responsive to practical overtures.  Hopefully Ark'Mora Raa will see things the same way.  I think it is pretty sensible as the fallout from the war seems to suggest that the Desert King has control over most of the interior and those resource producing areas while the High Council still holds the main trade ports. (And the Ulandus remnant holds Gorr and has resistance scattered around).  However I see it as the Trade ports can't prosper without access to the interior resources and the interior's best trade links remain mostly with the trade ports.  It is in the best interests for all to cooperate, at least for now.  As you say, trade is the Lifeblood of Kaliphlin.

I lurked on the forum ages back, then joined Kaliphlin shortly after the civil war a while back.  I just haven't been active as I was in Shanghai, then Paris, now Shanghai again.  I'm hoping to be more productive in the future.

Cheers on the paper compliment, but I'm sure I stole it from a build someone did with a scroll recessed into a desk in one of the book one story builds.

A lot of threads have been left hanging in Kaliphlin after the civil war, so the letters are a great idea to move the DK's story on a touch, and get members collaborating. :classic: Sorry it's taken me so long to respond! I will have to make a reply moc, although i'm not quite sure what that will look like yet. I'm guessing Nammuat will be wondering who Muakhah is and just how much influence they actually have.

Regarding the moc, i like the bookcase/lectern thing and the cluttered table. I'm not so sure about the lamp hanging overhead - it looks a little simple for my taste. I find the palm tree top element to be good as a lighting bracket, might be worth experimenting with if you have any.

OOC I think a good starting point politically now is to see the cities along the coasts as more or less independent city-states, as the High Council doesn't seem to be around in the same way as before? In that case, the remaining Ulandus-ruled area(s) can be handled in the same way.

Probably a discussion for the main Kali thread however
