[MOC] TIE Experimental M1

Recommended Posts

And here comes a rare variant from the famous TIE-Fighter, the TIE Expérimental M1 which first appeared in the old X-Wing Alliance video game. For this variant, the famous TIE concept is inverted: instead of having one pod surrounded by 2 wings, we have 1 central wing surrounded by 2 TIE cockpit pods

I used many bricks from the 75211 set as this set provides a good chunk of what I needed. The only real challenge was to create a sturdy double wing to support the 2 pods.

Once the wing is done, it is all about symetry but not completly still.

And in the end, I get one more TIE variant:

Aaah I love this flying idiocy! :D
Like, firing that huge gun TOTALLY wouldn't make the entire thing spin like a whirligig!

I guess it would look a tiny little bit better if dbg pieces were swappped to lbg, but it is great anyway.
You did DYE-wing too! Oh come on? How cool is that!

As for idiocy... where are the engines on the Y-TIE hybrid?

pretty good ship!

i got a couple of suggestion: you can use the same "dish with hinge" up the cockpit... it will give the same round shape on each "bubble"

and i think for the engine is better the "Dish 5 x 5 Scala" (https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=6942#T=C) to give a smooth shape...

I tried for the top dish, but ultimately, I preferred to go with the disymetry. Moreover, the large hatch forces to add a front support at the joint with the cockpit window. This makes it more difficult to add or remove the pilot. Less playable.

As for the other dish, you're right and I forgot. :)

Thank you all for the nice comments about this flying anomaly.

This looks really cool but annoying to display

Thanks. Display is not so difficult as can easily add some black 1x8 slopes at the bottom and it will provides a stable support. for the wing.

Nice ship, I like the first picture especially with the stairs and the little cart thingy. Makes it look like a real lego set. I am not familiar with the ship itself though, is the extra pod a heavy cannon of some sort? If yes, does it have a special purpose or role?

Thank you.

I had built the stairs for my Duck-Wing (see below) and recycled them for this picture.

Regarding the "big gun", this is actually a turbolaser ... much more powerful than the usual lasers. And from what I remember from playing, these flying idiocies were really fast and agile and rotating all around you and pesting you like hell.
