Hi everyone

This is the first time I've posted a MOC in the train forum and although these models are not trains, they are still locomotives of a sort and I thought this would appeal to train and especially steam fans.

"Miniature Steam Machines" is my collection of 3 steam engines designed at a small scale. I set myself a challenge to see if I could build these little engines using a very limited amount of bricks but still maintaining a decent level of detail. They are all very small. The biggest of the 3 models only contains 128 bricks.

Traction Engine

The Traction Engine is the smallest of the 3 models and only uses 82 bricks. The basic structure of this model forms the basis for all three models and this one in particular is intended to represent a miniature version of my LEGO IDEAS project, The Old Workhorse - Traction Engine.

Steam Roller

The second model is a steam roller and this one is made from 109 bricks.

Showman's Engine

The third model is a Showman's Engine. This model is the biggest of the 3 and contains 128 bricks.

I designed these mini models to act as a sort of side project and to help promote my LEGO IDEAS model called "The Old Workhorse - Traction Engine". This a much bigger and more detailed model. Here is a picture showing the mini models alongside the Old Workhorse.

If you're interested in reading more about The Old Workhorse then it has its own topic here on Eurobricks. The Old Workhorse - Traction Engine

If you like the model I'd also be massively grateful if you could please vote for it over on LEGO IDEAS at the following link. https://lego.build/2vRfVGL

Many thanks for reading and I hope you like these models.

These are cool!

@Cale would love these!

What scale are they at and are they all scaled together?

Thanks! :classic: I didn't design them to any particular scale but yes they are all in scale with each other. Each vehicle is only 4 studs wide (apart from the rear wheels) and they are too small to fit a minifigure inside.

If you look at the last couple of pictures in my post you can see an image of the models standing next to my bigger "Old Workhorse" model. This model is minifig scale so you can see from this image just how small these new models are in comparison.

Here is a new picture of a mini fig standing next to the Steam Roller to help give an idea of their size.

I love these!! Even though they're small you've crammed in a lot of detail - I especially like all the pipe work, valves etc. Think the showman's engine is my favourite!!

Excellent work!!

Thanks very much! :classic: I tried to fit in as much detail as I could and each engine has even got miniature controls inside the cab. I've used a 1x2 technic brick with the hole on the side representing a tiny firebox. I also find that minifig paint roller handles are very useful for representing various pipes etc on steam engines.

Think the Showman's Engine is my favourite too, even though someone on Twitter mentioned that it looks a bit like a sideways bi-plane

Thanks a lot. The Traction Engine is supposed to be a miniature version of my LEGO IDEAS project, called The Old Workhorse - Traction Engine

I love them seriously submit these to the new bricklink designers as well I would buy these for sure

Thank you. I hadn't considered that. Being small models I'm not sure they'd create enough interest but it's worth a try I guess. I'd need to rebuild them using the Bricklink Stud.io software if I wanted to submit them.

You really packed a lot of detail in those small models, excellent builds!

I'm pleased you like them. Thanks a lot. :classic:

For anyone who likes these models you might also be interested to see the new images I've just uploaded to my topic for The Old Workhorse - Traction Engine. I've just completed work on the brick built version of the model. Previously I'd only built the engine but now I've added pictures of the entire finished model.

These are so cute, you packed a lot of details in such a small scale! My only recommendation would be to replace this part with that one in all your models... Anyway, keep the great work up! :classic:

Thanks very much, pleased you like them. And thanks for the tip about swapping the parts. Yes that one you suggested might look a bit more discreet, especially at this small scale.

Just wanted to let everyone know...

Originally I designed these little models as a side project to my LEGO IDEAS entry "The Old Workhorse - Traction Engine". I have now decided to give them their own shot at LEGO IDEAS though and have added them to the site as their own project. If you like these little models I'd be really grateful if you could please head over to LEGO IDEAS and give "Miniature Steam Machines" your support!

Thank you very much!!! :classic:
