kahir88 Posted September 22, 2018 (edited) A mercenary's story: Part II If you missed, here is the previous part: A mercenary's story: Part I Conrad realised after a several days in the wilderness, there are more sinister foes, which can't be defeted, by sword... Hunger. His dreams to become the great warrior, quickly changed, to be a common thief, who needs to steal his daily meal. First, he took some vegetables and fruits from the local farms, sometimes some eggs. The days turned to weeks, and the weeks to months. He was braver enough now,to go in to smaller towns and villages, to steal from the marketplaces. Bread and meat was back on his menu. For his deeds,he never slept on the same place again. But he become more and more careless, and bolder. He decided, to stop living only for the next day, and live... atleast for after it. And this plan caused his loss. On the marketpalce, he tired to pickpocket a lady. But his fingers wasn't so nimble, and the women cried out for the guards. Conrad was captured, and escorted to the local prison. Will he survive, behind iron bars? Find it out, follow his story. Edited October 3, 2018 by kahir88
Grover Posted September 22, 2018 I'm really enjoying the story! The small vignettes are great. I like all the thin stairs in the last build, and the creative use of the portcullis sideways as bars. Great use of the sideways bricks as rockwork. I also like the creative use of the sideways arches for branches. I think I may have to use that in some of my future builds! My only suggestion would be to see about getting more light on your pictures. If you're using an SLR camera, upping the ISO may help. I'm still learning myself, but more light has helped me tremendously.
Henjin_Quilones Posted September 23, 2018 These are some very nice little vignettes! I agree with Grover that your pictures could do with some lightening up, as they seem a bit dark right now. But they are big enough for me to see them! So yay! Beyond that, I also really like the clever use of the portcullis for the prison bars, and the arches to hold the lanterns are also nice. I'm not as big of a fan of the 1-plate high stairs, since they seem oddly shallow, but they're not bad. I like the irregular pieces used for cobblestones in the arrest scene, and the shaping on the tree trunk is also nice, particularly at the roots. I don't like the smooth surface there to represent grass, however, as it does not do a good job of representing that texture. Studs would have been better than SNOT bricks, though it would make it harder to attach the tree cleanly. And the market stall is nice, too. It is great to see more of Conrad the Young, and not-so-Sly-yet. Keep it up!
W Navarre Posted September 24, 2018 These are capital MOCs mate, I like the consistency with the same type of gourds searching for him, and the cobblestones are well done as well! My favorite is the jail scene!
Gideon Posted September 24, 2018 Nice minifig posing capturing the emotions very well Since you seem to take the photos with a phone, I'd recommend getting more light on the scenes when shooting. Best would probably be to go outside when it is cloudy, or in the shade (as you don't want direct sunlight either).
mccoyed Posted September 25, 2018 These are looking pretty good. I particularly like the jail. Nicely composed angle for the pic there, shows everything and looks cinematic.
kahir88 Posted September 26, 2018 Thanks guys. The prison scene will return in the next chapter, but need one or two more builds for it. I asked my girlfriend, to improve the light of the pictures, so I hope it will improve.
Gabe Posted September 29, 2018 Nice little mocs, especially the prison scene, and i'm enjoying the storyline! I like the way you constructed the tree trunk on your second vignette, the roots in partiular look great angled the way they are - although i have to agree with Henjin about the lack of texture on the ground. The arrest and prison scene also use some nice techniques. Looking forward to the next chapter in Conrad's story!
soccerkid6 Posted October 1, 2018 Conrad's story is already developing well! Lovely cobblestone in the market scene, and clever awning too. The tree in the swamp has a marvelous trunk, though the abrupt transition from large trunk to small branches could be improved. Another very good cobblestone technique for the pickpocket moment, and the prison cell makes a strong finish for this installment of the story. The staircase and hallway lead the eye nicely to the barred jail with ruffians inside
