LEGO Star Wars 2019 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Mixed feelings with this wave... not exactly what a 20th anniversary wave had been with plenty of things to remember some years from now.

The best one is the system-scale Slave I. Great selection of minifigs and build quality. Price is somehow high and no new carbonite mould is a step back. Even more convinced now on the waste of pieces allocation in the "UCS" Cloud City set to a mid-scale Slave I ship, as this System-scale set is far superior, and someone that could afford the CC set could afford this one as well :sceptic:

The next one for me is the Imperial Dropship. It's a good way to get the new stormtroopers, although the ship isn't cannon/leyend or whatever. I have some nostalgia of the original one and see it with better eyes maybe, but 20 bucks is too much for a battle pack, as the "bonus" anniversary figure doesn't come for free.

The pod racer is too big like the old one. Almost bigger than the 2014 Cantina open, for instance, which renders it less useful close to Mos Eisley buildings made by Lego. The best thing is the new Padme, but otherwise nothing special. A smaller Anakin pod with Sebulba and his pod to race with it might be different, but otherwise I feel it isn't up to a 20th anniversary set.

The snow speeder is ok, but they have been this way since too many years. Without a new cockpit piece they look always the same. Nothing special at all for a 20th anniversary set, being a reedition of the already good 2014 set.

The AT-RT is ok, although too big as well. Nothing really to be remembered neither for a 20th anniversary set.

Overall I hoped to have a better wave for the 20th anniversary sets. Let's hope we get some kind of UCS set as well. The Tantive IV was excellent for its time.

I don't quite get why people are so anxious for a new Han in carbonite piece. The problem is that the current one still shows the old-style hair, right? But Han's hair was pressed down against his head and looks more like the old piece than the new poofy one. I'd prioritize new molds of just about anything else (TIE pilots without exposed necks, or P1 clone pilots without helmet fins, or the AT-RT driver everybody here also wants) before replacing the carbonite.

I really like that this new Slave 1 has a handle on the back for swooshing and triggers to fire of the spring-loaded shooters. The price though, sheesh! $119.99!? I don't see anything about this that justifies the price or the 1000 piece count unless there's somehow a side build they forgot to include in the pictures(which is of couse highly unlikely) it makes me wonder how the back and interior look. Just looking at it, it looks like it should be $99.99 TOPS. Guess I better start saving up VIP points...

The new Slave I looks to be pretty much exactly the same size as the previous one; they're both about 40 studs long. So how did they manage to go from 573 pieces to 1007? It looks more detailed, sure, but not twice as detailed. Maybe the entire underside is coated with alternating 1x1 studs or something...

Surely it has an empty compartment in the back for hundreds of studs to mimick garbage that it can spew out, or something

I see Zuckuss and 4-LOM, as well as the bonus 20th Anniversary Minifigure Tax

The previous one had a very basic build of standard bricks and large pieces. I can definitely see where a lot of the extra parts have gone on the new one. The base and the wings in particular both have twice as many parts now. The nose uses a lot of small slopped tile pieces. You have the SNOT techniques and greebling. The green circular ring around the wings has an extra layer of bricks. Thne there's the internal skeleton and underside that we can't see, but know from the description the new set will include a built in handle for carrying the ship.

Looking better at both the previous Slave One(not UCS) & this new one, it’s quite a bit different than I initially thought. I’m more excited now for it...we’ll see if the price ruins that.

Does anyone know which type of cape the 20th anniversary figures use? The old type like the original figures or the more soft type from recent years?

I'm pretty sure they use the older capes

A little disappointed with these sets, was hoping for more "special" sets, but all of these have clear drawbacks that the designers are obviously aware of; from copy-paste designs instead of proper remakes to bland figure selection with very few new or exclusive figs:

- Snowspeeder uses old helmets (??!!) and is copy-paste of old design

- AT-RT has boring figures we have gotten too many times (a friggin standard battle droid?!) and is copy-paste of old design

- Slave-I is too similar to the UCS for me, and looks overpriced. Happy we get Zuckuss!

- Podracer is very meh all around, the clear technic "stand" looks ugly, figs are again lackluster

- Battle pack is good, but the 33% price-hike is too much

This looks like a normal SW wave to me with some retro figs thrown in. These are cool but not must-haves, I am not expecting them to drive sales too much. On the topic of the Snowspeeder helmets: I am not convinced that they are discontinuing the newer style helmet, I think they just cheaped out here (perhaps due to size constrictions, but that means they should have just redesigned the thing instead of lazily copy-pasting an old design).

Well, anniversary sets look really good for the most part. Love new Slave I and Clone Scout Walker, both a must buy. Pod racer is good, but isn’t anyone else bothered that they reused Leia’s face for Padme? Even though they’ve made spot on Natalie Portman faces in the past. Dropship is definitely way overpriced but I guess it’s still a must get. And Snowspeeder is just unnecessary. It’s the same one as the last version we’ve got few years ago! And they are using old pilot helmets again? Very strange choice.

IMO, the only problem with the figures in the AT-RT is that it's another clone scout instead of an AT-RT driver. Standard B1s aren't particularly exciting figures, I guess, but if any figure should be super common, it's them; they only get better the more you have. Specialist CIS figures are nice occasionally, but B1s should always be the bread and butter, and it isn't like with the clones where there are dozens of variants that have never appeared. Off the top of my head, I can think of the firefighter droids from the Malevolence arc of TCW, but other than that I think LEGO might have covered every single CIS unit that would be small enough to be called a minifig. Plus, for what it's worth, that Wookiee warrior is a new print; the markings on the fur aren't the same as the Rebels version.

It's Jyn Erso's face which has already been reused on Black Widow, Mera and a Jurassic World ACU Trooper. It looks decent enough on Padme but its still not as good as the last face print from the Geonosis figure that was actually based on her character. Still I'm glad we're at least getting a new minifigure of her after a 5 year absence and would love to see her show up in sets more regularly again. Its been great seeing Leia get a heavy push lately.

Although modern capes made from the older material have changed slightly in shape. Bricklink lists them as 4cm and 3.9cm versions, for example.

On the helmet discussion, Lego has just released a keyring pilot Luke with the new helmet mould, so something tells me they maybe just went with the old mould for the snowspeeder because they didn't want to change the canopy ... here's hoping.

Given that there's a new helmet mould everywhere you look, it's very disappointing they didn't do one for the Phase II ARF/AT-RT driver. Especially because they'd definitely get mileage out if it of it if they threw it into a battle pack and as part of larger sets. Oh well, hopefully we're in for a treat with CW sets this winter/next April what with the final season being released.

Well I was hoping that we get a new Endor base with the 20th anniversary wave, but that is not the case. I think all the classic minifigures are great and help sell the set. The set each figure is put in is werid as they barely relate to the context of each set but oh well. The dropship looks odd, but I think it's interesting. The clone walker is just boring. I think the Snowspeader is an improvement but I would have preferred something else. I like the Slave I and looks like in improvement over the 2010 version. A Jango version would have been neat though. I honestly don't understand why they kept the carbonite piece the same though. They have had 2 years to fix it. Somewhat disappointed with the sets.

Yeah just looked at photo again and it looks like Jyn’s face. Not great choice for Padme regardless.

My sentiments exactly. I feel like (exclusive vader aside) this is a sort of oversized battle pack where the absence of named characters and various small builds makes it easy to buy multiple copies for a large battle. Actually, downsize the AT-RT from it's basically ucs scale to one more like the one in that 2016 juggernaut and if it didn't have the 20th anniversary vader it could fit into that $15 range and BE a battle pack.

"Endor Assault" 75238 is coming, but it is a mid range price so not going to be a base.

pretty disappointing wave except the podracer and slave 1... and this is what we call a 20th anniversary.

I feel that the disappointment surrounding this wave of sets may subside when we learn more about the UCS sets and if they will be compensate for this wave.
