From everything I’ve heard, it did better than Rivendell at launch. I’m sure the GWP helped with that, but either way, there is clearly demand for LOTR sets. Another D2C is all but guaranteed at this point, but I really hope they get the message and completely launch a new theme

It's heavily rumoured that a Lego Horizon game is in the works and likely will mean sets based off it and if (BIG IF) "Clown" is Simpson related that makes first two real so might mean that all are actually real and was a very early tease to them all. Even if true could just mean another giant set or a wave of sets, who knows. I know @TandNbricks is on eurobricks so maybe he'd like to confirm or deny each point on list 

 

He's already confirmed that list was only for April Fools. Be careful about re-posting stuff like that. Youtubers take comments on EB and use it as proof something is happening when all it is is conjecture/guess/wishlist/rumor.

Not to mention even if it was a real list, it’s only based on the information he had at the time, which means very little when it comes down to it, since these people don’t always have all the info

If that's the case, then I heard that all LEGO YouTubers were supposed to donate 20% of their ad revenue to Eurobricks as part of their ongoing LAN membership. LEGO wants to ensure the forum's continued presence as a source of genuine information and discussion.

Indeed... I do like the idea of "sponsored" custom minifigs, but $12 is still a little pricey. If it's the right theme/design, then I might bite... Maybe a cool Zelda something - I dunno.

There's also a picture of Saruman in the library, as far as Easter Eggs go. I would love it if these were teases towards some future sets (and, frankly, Jay and other Fan Media Members might know more than us anyways), but I won't put any stock into hoping for more sets until we hear something more concrete.

I'm going to put a pause on buying any Lego until the next LOTR set. If two do come out next year I HAVE to get them. Building Barad-dur made me realize just how amazing this LOTR rebirth is. I need them all!!! Only set I might get is that BDP pirate island in a few days.

It is interesting to consider what LEGO may do with this theme in the future based on the two released sets. I've read that the previous iteration of the theme sold poorly (I can't back this up, just what I've read here) but Rivendell and Barad-dûr are big sellers. What would a 5500 piece Bag End look like? Would Minas Tirith work with the scale they have used so far? I can think of dozens of scenes that would work in the style of #77015 or #75353. Gandalf vs. the Balrog with "You shall not pass!" as the quote, or Arwen vs. the Ringwraiths with "If you want him, come and claim him!". They could make those things for years.

This might be unpopular but a 5000 piece bag end does not sound fun.  I would prefer something in the 2000 to 3000 range (with a $200-300 price point).  The old bag end is really excellent and if you did 4x to 5x as many parts we could have a great one that’s not $500.  I am hoping the massive scale treatment is only on minis tirith and maybe lothlorien.   I would like some $200 to $300 sets (and $10-$100).

That's what I'm expecting. A $250-300 Bagend and a 450ish Minas tirith

I am hoping that if they do both of those that they are in different years.   I might start grabbing a $50 gift card each month just to be ready in case they do another big one.

Diorama sets are a must! There's so many potential great scenes they can work with.

Although I stand by that Eowyn and Galadriel should come first before any more Arwen figures considering how underrepresented both characters are in this theme.

I disagree on Lothlorien. Its not that iconic visually and lacks any real distinguishing features to justify such a large price tag. A diorama of the "Mirror of Galadriel" scene would be a better way to represent that location at a more affordable price range.

Minas Tirith, Helms Deep, Edoras and Orthanc are the only locations that should be at the scale of Rivendell and Barad-Dur.

Of course, nothing at all concrete. It's just fun to imagine, and there is a history of teases like this.

I agree, Bag End does not have to be as big as the last two sets. That being said, I could see Minas Tirith needing to be in the $700 range to be done justice. That would be a hard pill to swallow, but I would do it

Many non-fans and fans alike, including myself, have been wrong about Barad-dur, especially how it will supposedly be less successful than Rivendell.

Not quite sure what to think of Easter eggs these days. Especially when influencers use it to drive up more attention to themselves. But you are right, it is nice for most collectors and Lego fans to imagine what these could mean for themselves.

Lots of potential for this theme!

I do wonder how far into the future Lego will keep re-using the minifigs???

I would love to see other locations.

Although I will still buy a Bag End if that's the direction they go...

Many of these Easter Eggs make sense only when looking at the past references.

Finished building barad dur. It was alot more interesting build than I thought it would be. No paper bag. It was plastic. Missing one piece. 

I didn't realize how heavy this set is. Sauron minifig is great!

I agree, something around the size of the medieval blacksmith would be perfect, so $160-$200. 

I'm a massive LOTR fan but don't have the budget for more massive sets beyond Rivendell, I hope they don't make things large for the sake of large when they could be sets $80-$200 instead

The previous Bag End was a little over 600 pieces. These days, an equivalent sized 18+ set would be at least 1000 pieces due to the use of small parts.  A 2000 piece set probably wouldnt be much bigger than the original. Not that that is a bad thing. I thought the size of the original is about right. It doesn't need an entire shelf or display cabinet to itself.
