Has been developed to face the threat of missiles, aircrafts and drones. It's very effective and fast to tack the threat (thanks to his in-built radar) and delete them with a powerful laser ray. Actually ATHENA is only a prototype. Informally, the weapon is also called the heat ray since it works by heating the surface of targets, such as the skin of targeted human subjects. The ADS works by firing a high-powered beam of 95 GHz in microwave spectrum.
