I love this set... because it gives me nothing to desire and therefore spares me a great expense  I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, and Harry Potter LEGO fan, but this one isn't an attractive set to me personally. Don't get me wrong, it looks well done for what it is, but the micro-scale doesn't do it for me and I don't even have a personal connection or feeling towards the minifigures, so this is a very easy pass.

However I still think this was a smart move on LEGO's part. They'd never be able to capture enough of Hogwarts in a minifigure-scale set to make it worth it, and it's wiser to split up minifigure-scale Hogwarts into multiple sets. Hogwarts being the most iconic location makes it the best subject matter for a big expensive D2C, so going with micro scale is a neat move that I think none of us expected before the first rumors broke. I bet this will be attractive to a lot of people, just not me.

If the line continues, I'm still holding out hope for another D2C of the Ministry, this time minifigure-scale... but that's for a wishlist thread.

I wasn't really sure about the micro-scale thing but seeing it now on official pictures i am actually considering buying it.

Pretty cool.  I didn't buy the new Great Hall or Whomping Willow sets in the hopes that this set would include them, and it does!  So I'm happy to get this set instead of those other two.  When is the early VIP?

What a beauty! And 27 Nanofigs!!! I somehow need to make sure to get them. Even tho 400€ is a little bit too much for me right now :cry_sad:

But 6000 pieces sounds like an awesome build!

So many mini-minifigs! If this sells well it could take Lego down a very interesting path. SHIELD Helicarrier, now this, what could be next?

That would look incredible on any shelf. It's almost too bad it's competing with Lego's incredible minifig Harry Potter line this year.

Incredible progress over the last 15 years for Lego Harry Potter.

I suggested in the rumors thread we might get Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Salazar Slytherin and Rowena Ravenclaw in the CMF line, but this does seem more appropriate.

I like a number of the reused parts. I had wondered when those Ninjago snake parts would land elsewhere. I don't think I'll be shelling out for the set, but if I get a good deal, I may acquire some of the parts or figs.

Is that $399 confirmed? If so that's an amazing price!

Edit: It's up on S@H, $399 is real!

Wow, this is incredible. Probably the best D2C they've ever done. It's smaller scaled, but still big enough to include with my display of the other Hogwarts segments. Looking forward to this

The castle looks great, and the 4 minifigures are excellent. I understand why they went with this scale instead of a system scale D2C. Even without the astronomy tower I think it is a nice representation of the castle that could not be done in a reasonable price range at system scale.

I am not 100% sold on the set though. Not that into microscale and the nanofigures doesn't quite do it for me. I appreciate the efforts at an interior, but given the scale there isn't much to work with ( try to imagine the set without the stickers & nanofigures and you'll see what I mean). I might end up getting it regardless, hopefully I'll get to see it on display sooner or later which might spark more of an interest.

It's a great design, but the real thrill of Lego for me is building and implementing challenging ideas such as a minifigure-scale Hogwarts.   The problem with nanofigures is that they lack detail.   Objectively, they're not very good toys: they're completely unposeable, uncustomizable,  and the painted details are limited and sparse.

Great architecture, though, it's incredibly beautiful.

The Set looks very good. Fan of nanofigures or not, you have to admire the detail that went into the rooms. They're a ton of rooms like the Chamber and the winged keys I never expected to see. The nanofigures don't look amazing, but for their scale they've been done well. I genuinely can't wait to see this in person.

Love the design, they really nailed the scale and proportions and a lot of the architectural details. The minifig-scale Great Hall from earlier this year looked kind of squashed. With this one, they basically copied the silhouette of Hogwarts from the Wizarding World parks, minus the Astronomy tower. So sadly no "cathedral", clock tower, or quads but I suppose that would have restricted the open back of the model and a lot of those sections aren't visible from the front anyway. It would probably take twice as many pieces to add those extra sections at the same level of detail.

I've held out from every owning a LEGO Hogwarts set, waiting for them to release something that was more than just an allusion to the films' castle design and now 17 years later I think it's finally time to  make a purchase

IM OBSESSED WITH THIS SET. I like that the castle feels actual size in comparison to the microfigs. So many characters! So much interior! I’m so glad they made it playable. Luna, cho, and Ginny are in this as well. The great hall feels massive, my only complaint would be not having 4 common rooms.

cant wait to buy it!

This is definitely what I was expecting from the set (micro-scale that is, not compatible with the mainline great Hall/Willow sets as I assumed Lego would just release more parts to in future waves of sets.)

This looks like it'll make an absolutely awesome display piece (and much more compact than the minifig scale ones), reminds me of what a proper "architecture" version of hogwarts would look like. Plus it just has so many details, I'm very excited to see where Lego could go with microscale if this sells well.

(But man those pictures of the nanofigs are almost meme-worthy..some of those faces...)

I think this'll be a definite buy for me!! Love all the little details and the whole thing just looks stunning as a display piece. (Although I wish it came with a Hagrid micro figure as well!!) Despite being a die hard miniature scale fan,  I hope it does well as I think that microscale sets like this would be great for other themes such as Star Wars where, so often, compromises in design are made due to the use of minifig scale. Plus I'm running out of room!!!

This photo below- shows the castle in front of the movie set castle- and it looks as though they left a solid section of the castle out to add on later if this sells well! We could be getting an extension in the future-

The sections in red are what are represented in this set, so there are still lots of areas that could be added on. (this map represents Hogwarts from Goblet of Fire, before the Defense Against the Dark Towers was replaced with the Astronomy tower)

Sorry for the question but what means D2C?

Direct to Consumer/Customer (in other words you can only get it direct from LEGO not any other retailers)

I love it for what it is (basically Disney Castle 2.0, only with a different brand), but at the same time I'm a bit disappointed it's not what I thought it would be at this scale - an architecture set, akin to Taj Mahal, depicting the entire castle. Something like this, but with no stand and much less rock formations, obviously.

Focusing on what we're getting, it's a real beauty from both sides. The front's design is incredible in how it manages to look like stone-built and not rely on stickers (in fact there are only two, which could be easily left off) or those masonry bricks. Significant depth is well used, giving the rooms enough space to make it look like it truly is in microfig scale.

There are some slight flaws, as expected. Too many stickers, in fact, I can't see any printed parts, even the generic ones; looking at this photo

it's obvious they didn't bother with exact proportions and number of towers; real shame there are no other common rooms; the arrangement of some chambers doesn't make much sense.

But these are just nitpicks, I'm definitely buying this, maybe even day one, or at least for Christmas. It'll surely be a blast to build and a beautiful display piece

Even if they made an add-on in the future, what would it be called? The Rest of Hogwarts ™ Castle?

I'm conflicted about this set. Part of me loves it because I've been wanting a scale accurate model of Hogwarts for a long time (hence why I posted my own design on IDEAS), but another part of me wishes they hadn't included the microfigures and just made it a really detailed model of the exterior. I've never been a fan of microfigure scaled sets, for me, the scale is still to small to have a detailed interior without stickers (and I try to avoid stickers/prints as much as possible), but larger than it needs to be to make a detailed exterior. If I can scrounge together the funds, I may still buy it though, because that exterior does look awesome, just wish it was a bit more complete, like the architecture sets (same as BenderBrau just said). Aaaarrggghhh!! I don't know what to do!
