Chorduroy Posted May 14, 2018 Hi all, This question may well have been answered in the past, so I apologize, but I couldn't find anything in my searching. I know there are instructions out there for steam locomotives, but I can't seem to find anything that shows how to power them using PF parts. Does anyone know if there is anything out there? I am more than willing to pay for instructions. I've struggled for a long time to get something that runs reliably, but it's pointless. My engineering ability is basically non-existent. supertruper1988 Posted May 14, 2018 A couple options, there are the LEGO official instructions for the Emerald Night train. It has some faults but there are a few thread on how to fix them. Also there are a ton of good ones on sights like rebrickable. I have also done up some for the Lone Ranger train here: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-6201/supertruper1988/79111-m-motor-power/#comments Mine are free as are the LEGO ones. ALCO Posted May 14, 2018 Steam engines are pretty challenging. There are some Bricklink stores that sell instructions. Or if you have a design that is troubling you, folks here are more than willing to help you figure it out.

My designs are horrific, so I don't even want to post them ... haha! 23 hours ago, HoMa said: @Chorduroy you can find PDFs of instructions for two of my steam engines for free on my website for download: http://www.holgermatthes.de/bricks/en/br10.php http://www.holgermatthes.de/bricks/en/br80.php Enjoy, Holger This is amazing! Carefree_Dude Posted May 15, 2018 I feel you should wait until PF 2.0 is officially released. Currently it's very difficult due to having to include the PF receiver, which is huge and hard to hide. PF 2.0 has the receiver built into the battery box, AND you don't need line of sight. This way, you only need to incorporate the motor if you have the battery box in the tender. ecmo47 Posted May 17, 2018 (edited) Here's a link to one of the more accomplished steam engine builders and seller of instructions:https://store.bricklink.com/AggieSava?p=AggieSava#/shop?o={"showHomeItems":0} The Brick Model Railroader guys have a stream locomotive in the works which we will hopefully see this year. Here's a link to the Lego set 10194 Emerald Night instructions that show how they geared their engine.https://www.lego.com/biassets/bi/4611661.pdf The seconds book shows how the Motor and IR receiver were installed:https://www.lego.com/biassets/bi/4581168.pdf Here's a link to mods that we have made to the EN running gear to improve performance. https://forum.brickset.com/discussion/15407/emerald-night-10194-running-gear-improvements#latest Hope this helps!
