This thread collects everything about lego animals, share your opinion here! Regarding: 

new animal molds;  new animal prints or colors;  animal wishlist;  comparing new animals with old versions; your favorite animal ever made; your top 5 animal moulds; your animal collection; your latest purchase; retired animals; upcoming animal molds and rumors; available animals on bricks and pieces; misprinted animals; rare ones; new recolor; expensive animals on bricklink; 

I am collecting animals for a few years now and this list helped me a lot. I divided it into many categories to have better overview and to browse easier through. 

1) Lego System Animals:

2) Lego Friends, Elves and Disney Animals

3) Fictional, Mythological and Prehistoric Animals: 

- Harry Potter animals

- Star wars animals

- Lord od the Rings animals

- Dinosaurs from various themes

I am quite sure I forgot some animal or creature, even color, so please let me know in the comments down below, so i can update. On the list i diddn't include scala or belville animals, because I diddn't find any decent pictures out there. ( cough because they are ugly and don't fit in any lego city) There are a few ldd pictures of belville animals, only ones i could find.

The LOTR eagles should really have their wings rather than just the body to be an animal.

 

There are also trolls in LOTR and HP that could be classed as animals. Jabba the Hut might be too.

 

All of the Angry Birds animals are missing.

 

You've included some brick built animals, mainly dragons but there are loads of other brick built animals such as this:

A problem with moving away from molded piece animals to brick-built is that the list will be very large and the cut-off is going to be arbitrary.

 

For example, including the Elves' fire dragon but not Chima's legend beast style animals:

 

Also I don't think I saw Rex from Toy Story.

@MABYes i agree, eagle should have wings. Will add another picture. The whole thing with brick build animals started when i just had 4 rows and i wanted to have 5 just to match with others. Now i started a whole new conversation and there are a lot of brick built animals and really hard to find all of them, unless i browse and look at every set ever made. I think i will delete them and stick with moulded ones, because to add brick built animals, it is just a difficult task and would mean very exhausting research.Thanks for reminding me about angry birds, they weren't listed on bricklink under animals. I was also thinking about trolls, but wasn't so sure, because they aren't really animals. Well i have other special creatures on the list, so why not, will add them.

There is this brickset tag that can be helpful for brick built ones.

Whatever you do, it will be difficult. One piece molds are a given. But what about the LOTR eagles? They need to be assembled so are built, although they are all non-brick parts. If they are included, what about Smaug as he is just a combination of more (mainly specific molded) parts with a few system parts. Then what about the Elves style dragons, they are a molded head but somewhat regular part built bodies. And Chima beasts, they are similar without molded heads. Each step gets slightly more brick-built. Even the horses and wargs need a brick and or tiles or plates to make them complete.

I think i will add animals that have atl east one or two moulded part. i don't see a point by adding brick built animals that just consist of generic lego pieces. That includes printed pieces also, it really has to be a new mould made especially for brick build animal. Maybe i can add new category brick build animals with moulded parts? What do you think? But then again what about brick built animals like unikitty, she is iconic character from lego movie and she has no moulded parts, ok her tail was made especially for her, but now that part is used for decorating modular buildings and other purposes.

by the way, Is there a better picture of new rat mould? I mean a larger one, i only have the one from arctic set, but it is too blurry. The same thing goes for sabber tooth and mammoth, i guess i will have to wait for  pictures to come out. Hopefully soon, i am dying to see these new moulds in detail.

It is a very nice overview you have made I just made a quick look, not many HP animals missing I think (except the new ones)

• well there are 7 colours of the original owl not 3
• a least one "tiger" cat missing (and black 2 types?) in the original mould
• the first parrot from pirates
• the bat is missing a couple of colours
• the crab from ninjgo city
• there are only one colour of chihuahua
• the same apply for the brown cow, but it had normal- and longhorns

Absolutely great topic. I think this will be extremely useful in all sorts of ways. I'm looking forwards to posts pointing out new moulds added to Bricks and Pieces.

Regarding the compilation so far:

- The crouching cat exists in black - I know as I have at least two!

- The black chimpanzee comes in two skin colours: the one already shown and one with brown face/ears ( https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=95327pb02#T=C )

well there's the half snake introduced in ninjago (hands of time) and the new parts released to released soon such as the mammoth, the eagle ,the smilodon or Ace the bat-hound, though I'm guessing you'd want to wait for better pictures, and you probably knew about some (or all) of them already.There is also another colour and print for the baby dino.

The porg from star wars is brick built and has no special pieces (expect for print) but I would include it so I'll suggest it here for your consideration. I am presuming that we will also get a faither in this design. (shown in spoiler due to large picture). And as they were one of my favourite things from star wars 8 I'd love to see Vulptex (though I have no proof that they might be coming).

Thank you @Roebuck for the great list. Will add all of them in the next update. I diddn't know there were 7 colors of owl! Good to know. Yes, i know the tiger cat from belville is missing, couldn't find a good picture on web. I can't believe i forgot pirate parrot and i own at least 5 of them. I've added two chihuahuas because on brickset there were two with differnet element numbers and i thought that they have maybe different prints, so i will delete one of them.

Thanx @Agent Kallusi wil add the half snake, baby dino and new animal parts released in summer when the pictures are out. But isn't porg just brick built with some printed part? I mean i would love to add it, i am fan of  star wars movies, but then i will have to add all brick built animals. Thanks for letting me know about Ace the bat hound, diddn't know about this dog at all! There are also other animals available at the moment on bricks and pieces, look my comment above :)

@Exetrius Thank you for the very detailed list. I am not so familiar with Bionicle, Hero Factory and Heroes themes, so this is sooo helpfull. Wil try to add all of them and make a new category weird creatures, lol. Minecraft animals, hmm, I don't consider them as animals, they don't have any mold and are just brick built. I will try to add Ninjago dragons, do they have new molds like elves dragons or are they just brick built? Ballon animals, do you mean the new acessoires form clown minifigure series 18? I have jellyfish on my list, pink and blue they so look like a chef's hat rather than jellyfish.

Will update the list with all your suggestions as soon as I find some time :) So much work, but i will be happy to complete the list. And can you guys see all the element numbers below each picture on the list? or should i add bigger pictures? I don't know if it is allowed to publish on eurobricks bigger pictures.

Yeah the porg is, as you say, just brick built. Nice to know about all those animals available from bricks and pieces, I'll have to get some in my next order.

Minecraft animals do have specialised parts but those parts aren't really animalesque and they are mostly brick built bar their heads (in most cases). Some (6) of earlier ninjago dragons had specialised parts but most of them are purely brick-built.

I've been following this thread for the past few days to see where it was going and, while I bow to cebelicamya for his hard work, and thank all of you for sharing such an amount of info on these animals, I do not see this leading to customisation. Seems more collection oriented to me.

That said, I'll move the topic into General LEGO discussion, where I think it will get more attention fro the, well, general public, and be of more use to the whole community.

It is, of course, your thread, but I reckon that as the chimp with brown skin is a LEGO animal, it should be included, even if it was only available from LEGO brand stores and not in a set. By the same token, if LEGO ever did an animal as an SDCC or other con exclusive, that would also qualify IMHO.  

By the way, of forthcoming animals, I don't think anyone has mentioned the thestral from this FB set (75951):

I would leave the Ninjago dragons off, because they are essentially brick-built.

The Minecraft animals are also largely brick-built, but some are a little more molded and creature-like.  The Creeper, for example, is made up of 4 parts, and only 2 of them are standard pieces (the 1x2 tiles on the sides):

I agree. For the same reason, I didn't mention any of the monsters from 2005-2006 Vikings line. They, like the Ninjago dragons, have a few purpose designed parts but are mostly brick built.

My long awaited order just came today: :) I forgot that cow has horns and forgot to order them. She will now have to deal with missmatched horns (thank god for spare parts from sets) for awhile. And i was suprised that tiger is more yellowish orange than normal orange. I thought he would be  more dark orange. Also bear looks so small in comparisson to cow and tiger.

Yeah, my first cow in my collection!

It is the same as far as I can see, the owls from 2010-11 are so good so no point on changing anything Hopefully we get a lot of owls in the new HP/FB sets
