"Capt. One-Eye was taken back the way he'd come, to a little town called Yoku. They kept saying he was going to meet this "daimyo", a Yureishimese word for lord. Now, the Yureishimese clans are all run by lesser and greater lords, all with their own territory. Not that different from Avalonia, really. The main difference is the extent of the authority. The Yureishimese of the Red Lotus Clan believe even their very lives are owed to whichever lords are above them."

-Artur Rimbyld, University of Petraea Geographical Society

"Yureishimese are a coastal people, but not really a sea people. They don't seem very interested in making long voyages. Their ships are small and efficient, but can't handle the deeper waters and storms that they'd hit trying to head west to Historica. That said, extensive roads connect their towns and villages. They seem adept at road construction even in poor terrain. Because of their history of warfare, these roads are typically well-maintained and wide enough to accommodate legions of warriors."

-General Marnix Hettle, formerly of Queenscross, in his paper 'On the Conquest of Foreign Regions'

Wolf Island, Yureishima, Two Days after One-Eye was freed:

The village of Yoku seemed like many others that One-Eye had seen, all around the world.

The people seemed cheerful as they went about their work or leisure. Some looked curiously at him, but very little emotion was betrayed by their faces. When his eyes met theirs, they would smile and bow politely. As if he wasn't a prisoner, but a visiting dignitary. The official was always with him and seemed the only person he met who was permitted to show disrespect.

38508387371_a9a2e9e496_t.jpg This is my lord Kawashita Ieyasu's village.

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg He lives here?

38508387371_a9a2e9e496_t.jpg No, fool. He lives north, in Okami City. But he is here now, so he will speak with you.

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg Maybe he can tell me where my bricking crew is and how I can get them back.

38508387371_a9a2e9e496_t.jpg Show him any disrespect, Shujin, and your head will be removed from your body before you can blink.

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg Uhhh.

25862036837_c11c128c00_c.jpg

They passed a man placing fish in a fenced pond. He seemed real happy about it, too. The fish looked fat and delicious, but also beautiful. Their scales were a bright orange, iridescent in the sun.

As they approached the largest, fanciest house in the village, One-Eye almost froze when he saw who stood on the stoop with a lord even fancier than his jailer-official. The official and his guard bowed immediately while One-Eye eyed the beautifully-crafted sword that this daimyo held naked in his hand. But it was the daimyo's companion that he really cared about.

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg Timmermans! You're alive!

39858115265_0936ee656b_t.jpg Uh. Yes, Cap'n. I seem to be.

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg Best news I've gotten in years. Where's everybody else!?

40733298501_b49ec98d99_c.jpg

That's when One-Eye noticed the wooden cage off to his left. He had to squint to recognize three of his crew: Big Bald Barrington, Legs Al-Bara, and the cabin boy Colin who had grown in their years of captivity. He wanted to run up to them immediately, but the voice of the fancy lord barking the Yureishima language stopped him.

40690459672_db61ecf216_t.jpg  <Yureishimese>

39858115265_0936ee656b_t.jpg He says you're to stay where you are, please.

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg Wait a minute. Timmermans, what are you doing up there with him anyway?

39858115265_0936ee656b_t.jpg Long story, Cap'n. Let's just say that we... we work for him now.

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg I don't think I like where this is going.

40690459672_db61ecf216_t.jpg  <Kanshu, thank you for bring me this... man. He almost looks like one of us in that garb.>

38508387371_a9a2e9e496_t.jpg <You're most welcome, my lord Kawashita.>

The two Yureishimese conversed for a while, leaving One-Eye to stand there waiting. He saw a red-skinned man standing watch over his crew. The man looked sort of like a Yukari orc, but must have been some tribe or folk native to the islands. After a few minutes, One-Eye lost his patience.

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg Hey Timmermans, what are they saying? Is it about the crew?

40690459672_db61ecf216_t.jpg  <Go ahead and tell him, Timmerman-san.>

39858115265_0936ee656b_t.jpg No, it's about you. Looks like they want to travel north to the city and present you to the Red Lotus overlord. Kawashita Ieysau believes he can use you to gain great favor and prestige.

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg Wow. Are these Lotus guys going to just pass me around like a mug of ale? They haven't even asked me for anything yet.

39858115265_0936ee656b_t.jpg They're not big on sharing, Cap'n. I'm supposed to tell you that all will be revealed in time and that this is the only chance you've got at getting the others freed.

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg Whatever they want, it can't be good. Tell them I'll only help if I can speak to BB, Legs, and Colin. Right now.

Timmermans translated while the official, left by the wayside, watched One-Eye warily. It seemed One-Eye had the answer to the mystery of how anyone here had learned the common tongue of Historica.

Finally, the daimyo nodded.

40690447622_c9b716c142_c.jpg

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg BB, Legs, Colin!

40733315671_01e9e33211_t.jpg <Hey, keep your distance.>

39858115265_0936ee656b_t.jpg He says not to get too close.

40690459782_76d8b2b47a_t.jpg By my beard, it's you, Captain! I'm glad you're alive!

40690459602_094150deb1_t.jpg I'm glad to see you as well, my Captain. But perhaps you can talk to our... hosts... about doing something about my leg?

39858115265_0936ee656b_t.jpg They keep saying they'll fix your leg when you stop singing in the middle of the night.

40690459602_094150deb1_t.jpg But that is the best time!

40690459632_59819262df_t.jpg Yay, the captain is alive. Woopee. I've still been stuck in cages the whole time I've been an adult.

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg Colin! You've grown up! What's your sister going to say when she sees you?

40690459632_59819262df_t.jpg We'd have to find her first, One-Eye. That's the fun thing about being locked up for years. You don't know who's alive or dead!

40690459782_76d8b2b47a_t.jpg Oh, don't mind him. He's happy to see you, Cap'n. He just wants to know, we all want to know, what you're going to do to get us out of here.

38653709792_e618f98395_t.jpg For now, I'm going to play along. They want something from me and I'm hoping I can gain some leverage. You all have to stay alive until I get back here, okay? Then we'll find us a boat and get the heck away from here!

They ran out of time. The guard tapped his greatclub, motioning for One-Eye and Timmermans to return to the house where the daimyo waited. One-Eye did not know how long it would be until he saw his friends again, but he steeled his resolve to meet whatever challenges were to come, all so he could turn this unlucky situation into an opportunity.

Builder's Notes:

Spoiler

-This is the end of Chapter 1. Three more builds to cover Chapter 2 will be upcoming.

-Hopefully some of our older members will remember the crew of the Hold Fast from back when I first joined GoH! They won't feature in the story too much, but it's fun to bring some of them back.

-This build was mostly completed in December, but I hit some creative snags with the story and Monster Hunter World came out so...

-Not super keen on the plate terrain, but this build really stretched my green plates and dark tan plates to their limits. I was also worried about staging and in retrospect, the ground could have been better in terms of texture and detail. It's a bit too plain as is.

A very neat village indeed!

I really like your roofs, though they're a bit studded, they have a very Eastern feeling

great build, I love the Story you made with the Pictures of the Minifigs!

Thanks! Learned that from Andromeda's Gates. Became kind of a common way to write out dialogue for characters. Don't know who originated it.

Thanks. The whole thing is a bit studded, really. Oh well!

Good work on the terrain and vegetation; I'm still trying to learn how to do a proper terrain on my builds. Personally I also like the building style as well, especially the roof, which I don't believe I've seen before. Interesting idea for the cage as well, but I do have a slight nitpick; couldn't they just climb over the bars and escape?

While it is rather studded, as you yourself point out, that can be an effective style. I think it works here, especially on the roofs, as it gives them a sense of texture; particularly the black one, as it makes it vaguely tile-like, though the other, thatched ones look good too. The ground is the weakest part of the build in my opinion, but as you said, there is only so much you can do when you reach the edge of your collection (except buy more bricks, of course!). It does not look bad right now, just plainer than we (or at least I) have become accustomed to seeing in LEGO scenery lately. I am looking forward to the next part of the story, too!

Good to see your story continuing! The main building is impressive with its multi-tiered roof and red accents

Lovely thatched roofs made of tan plates

Well, the cage is temporary and there's the oni with the club standing right there... But yeah, it's not high enough! Hang in there re: landscaping. It just takes practice to get a handle on it and I wouldn't even say I'm all that good. Don't be afraid to imitate stuff you like as it helps you learn and then eventually start trying your own methods and techniques out.

I think the build is a bit too crowded for me to have done more and more varied vegetation. It's never been my strong suit anyway and when I initially built this, I planned for two or three times as many tight "narrative" shots and needed space to be not crowded out by elements of the build. I think changing up the greens or trying to a more evocative style for land/veg would be worth trying out if I do one this big again.

Thanks SK! I'm all finished moving and have a new Lego space so expect more. That said, why is EB/GoH so... dead? What happened to everyone?

Glad to hear that! As to the guilds' inactivity currently, it just seems to be going through one of its periodic dry spells. Hopefully it will pick back up again after Brickworld.

Personally, I got out of the habit of regularly posting here, and have been busy building for some other commitments. That said, I'm trying to get back into the flow of things, and will have some new builds before too long, and may be posting some older models that I had never gotten around to putting here.

It's hard to drum up the enthusiasm when the activity is so low. I do plan to contribute but I'm a little demoralized. Definitely been around for dry spells (CCC has that effect :P, as did the launches of AG and BBoS) but never one like this. Been a member since 2014 and the last year or so has been glacial. I haven't been posting til recently but I've been watching. I check in on EB every couple of days.

Anyways, BBoS seems pretty active still. Maybe I should finally get in on that but it seems overwhelming to me. Other RBGs not on EB have slowed down a lot too. The main one was Lands of Roawia which seems to be at GoH activity levels. I think a lot of the major peeps here and there have either slowed down or moved on.
