Arthur sees Matthias looking dazed and Confused, and sportingly uncorks a Remedy for him.  Having heard his name mentioned, he then approaches Throlar.

"You rang?"

"Ah, yes. Tell me, is it possible to send an object through the Z-mail system if it would harm the recipient upon arrival? And if there are countermeasures in place to prevent that then can they be removed? I'm somewhat worried about the possibility of someone using the system to send, say, a bomb to an unsuspecting victim."

"Depends on what you're sending.  Poisons would go through just fine, since we knew there's people who need to ship toxic reagents for various applications, and some of the spells to detect such poisons can have unexpectedly volatile reactions with the substances themselves.  Weapons go through as well, for obvious reasons, and the School of Enlightenment incident proved that living creatures can technically survive transit, though not necessarily uninjured.  Bombs, though?"  The former mage sits thinking intently.  "I know un-primed bombs--like the ones we tend to carry, before we twist the knob to deploy them--fall under the same loophole poisons do since they're chemically inert before then, and the deployment mechanisms are engineered to be impossible to set off accidentally.  Anything more delicate than that, though, wouldn't work; the transit is not gentle on the package, so any sort of explode-on-opening setup would just explode harmlessly in the Void before it ever reached the victim.  Does that answer your question?"

"Aw, hell."

He sighed and set it back down on the counter, standing up.

"So this is a thing we're doin' then, huh? How sure are we 'bout all this?"

"I'm happy to sit in this Hall drinking for the next week or two and see if someone ends up letting us out that door, but I think it'll just be a week or two of drinking." To punctuate his point Boomingham drinks a nostrum and a mead.

Ezeran nods towards Lind and joins him. "So the Crescent Union rises again, great to se you all again.

"Like the moon!" The Black Knight nodded as he welcomed the mage to the group.

OoC: Your character - and Torald! - were both part of all of the following, though I couldn't add you to the PM for multiple reasons. Sorry the formatting is so bad - missing some of the key quotes people were responding to - but hopefully you'll be able to get the gist.

Spoiler

Before the Dwarf could comment on the Knight's outburst, Lind yanked Throlar closer.

"Shh!"

You're very right...something is very wrong...And I'm pretty sure I know just what.

I'm grandstanding deliberately, as a cover, so we can talk privately, without any..." He nodded, with a movement that was barely noticeable, toward the Veterans. "...Individuals getting wise."

OoC: I was trying to lay a few hints - deliberately intimidating a Veteran? When he's trying to be elected as one? - that Lind knows what's going on. I was hoping the reversal was rapid enough that the older, more experienced players might catch on. But I think The Legonator may have fallen for it...oh, well.

I'm holding back on roping Germ/Ezeran/Torald in, until they post something a little more solid. (Might send Germ a PM to find out what he thinks...can't tell from what he's posted.)

If you don't want to join in, that's fine - but this is a really great chance for RP. Plus, it gives us all a chance to throw everyone a big, fun, curve ball.

On 9/28/2018 at 5:31 PM, Lind Whisperer said:

OoC: I wanted to wait to bring Germ in until he had figured out something - but he's close enough, and this won't spoil the surprise any. (Plus, I have to go.)

Plus, it clears up (for him) why Lind is being so deliberately obtuse - he's using the Elections as a cover to talk about how to get out of this dream state without alerting the Veterans as to their plans.

OoC & IC:

Lind, you are so confusing me here.

On 9/28/2018 at 7:29 PM, Lind Whisperer said:

OoC: Sorry about that. :sceptic: Let me try and clear things up.

Here's the situation from Lind's perspective - though not IC:

Lind heard Rosier talking through the Veterans. He knows that this is all a dream. He doesn't know how dangerous the Veterans are, so he's trying to play off his stereotype as the guy who's all about the Crescent Union, and pretend to be having a private conversation about the elections - but Lind, Germ, Throlar, Torald and Ezeran are actually privately talking about how to escape Rosier's clutches.

That's why Lind pulled Germ down off of the table - he's trying to keep things quiet, until he and the other four can make a plan.

OoC: Above, with two addition. I'm trying to play off the stereotype both in and out of character - there are a few clues that Lind's not sincere about focusing on the elections/something else is going on, but I don't want to make it too obvious.

As for the other, Waterbrick Down did a great job of formatting things, so it looks almost like the quest really has ended. I had a long PM conversation with him earlier, and he specifically mentioned

That's why I didn't point out the letters to you sooner - I felt free to hint, but I didn't want to actually say what was going on, until you figured it out.

Hopefully that catches you up? Is there anything I can clarify?

As the Demon finally acquiesced to descending the table, Lind nodded and pulled him into the huddle.

"No fear, Germ. Finding a way out of here is what we're doing."

The Black Knight drew himself up, and addressed the four in a low, but firm voice.

"Listen...can't you hear that? Listen to the Veterans...listen inside their voices..."

All five of them listened intently. And soon, they could barely make out a low whisper...

"...sleep, dream, don't wake...!"

"We're in a dream." Lind waved his arms around. "This is all a dream...Rosier is keeping us asleep, while she tries to escape - but we're not going to let her."

"Think back, far back, to the last thing you can actually remember - don't you remember hearing the Sand Queen's voice, right before everything went dark?

Well..." He pointed across the room.

"Who's standing right over there?"

heroicanpc-sandqueen.jpg

The red-robed figure stood calmly, waiting for heroes to approach.

"I don't know how she's tied up in this...but I wouldn't put it past her.

(We can always ask, I suppose, but I don't imagine she'd tell us...)."

"Well, that's one way of speeding things up..." Lind watched as their Minstrel strode towards the door.

"If she opens that door, and nothing's on the other side...well, that will answer that question, for all of us.

But if Rosier's made most of Eubric...

One of us needs to stop her, if she opens that door, and there's a whole city on the other side. If people start leaving...

Well, things could get very difficult, depending on how good Rosy's spells are...or the Sand Queen's dreams..."

On 9/28/2018 at 8:30 PM, Lind Whisperer said:

"That's a good observation...we didn't run into her vines, so I couldn't catch that. I assumed it was just part of the illusion.

Anyone have any idea how we could shake off the vines? I have two Military Grade Fire Bombs in my gear - should do 20 damage each...but no idea how much of this is real."

On 9/28/2018 at 8:39 PM, samurai-turtle said:

IC: Thanks for the update. :sarcasm_hmpf:

"Crayola!" We found her in some sort magic bubble cage, she was probably brain washed during that time.

OoC: I am not sure why we are doing this here but whatever. And Lind I am probably just going to delete the other PM you sent me.

IC: That probably just burn us...

On 9/28/2018 at 8:48 PM, Lind Whisperer said:

"No problem!"

Lind looked around. "...I'm not seeing any magic bubble cages..."

OoC: No problem! Feel free.

We're doing this here because not everyone has posted in the main thread - we're missing a lot of people.

Like I quoted above: Doing this here gives us a chance to RP our reactions to the scenario, without affecting the other players.

If you haven't noticed, Atramor, Karie, and Dyric's players are all playing purposefully dumb, in accordance with how Waterbrick Down framed his narrative. Our characters are a little more inclined to react suspiciously to the scenario, so this gives us a way to do it without wrecking it for any of the late posters.

If Karie reaches the door, and Eubric's outside, Lind will make an excuse, and ask her to join in our "discussion". (Have not confirmed this with Kinto, but he's usually up for stuff. Still waiting on Torald and Ezeran to even post...) (If I can get the PM system to work.).

On 9/28/2018 at 8:59 PM, samurai-turtle said:

IC: When we found the Sand Queen, she was the "bubble cage". And it would be easy to brain wash her then, who knows how long she was in it. More time you have the easier it would be to brain wash someone. Then when she went off to "so called stop" Roiser she might of spring her trap. Any more dumb questions?

On 9/28/2018 at 9:03 PM, Lind Whisperer said:

"Think if I pull the trigger on this Fire Bomb, it'll set all of these vines on fire?

Hmm...so we're trapped in vines...and I did think that the Sand Queen might have become possessed in the battle - but brain washing would work also...

Hmm."

On 9/29/2018 at 1:56 AM, samurai-turtle said:

IC: I am starting to think we will have to beat up these "veterans" to even get out of...

On 9/29/2018 at 1:23 PM, Lind Whisperer said:

OoC: That was my initial reaction, but WBD hinted that we'd need the input of more than just the Sewer party.

I think your party gave us what's going on, I'm wondering if the main #159 quest can give us the way to get out of it?

On 9/29/2018 at 1:48 PM, Lind Whisperer said:

"But keep in mind - in the real world, we're tied up in vines. These veterans are only dreams...I feel like the Sand Queen could just keep them living on, no matter how much we throw at them...

Maybe someone from the Dragon House party, might have an idea..."

The stream of familiar faces kept appearing at the door.

"...This is going both better, and worse, than I had anticipated...

We're clearly trapped in here - but at least we don't have to chase down people across Eubric."

On 9/29/2018 at 2:34 PM, Lord Duvors said:

"We're not trapped," Throlar muttered, "we can leave at any time, that's why these people are appearing every time someone tries to leave. Rosier wants to keep us in here and thinks they can do it by giving us everything we could want, satisfying every need or desire we have. Pathetic really, shows how shallow their understanding of people is. But in any case we need to think of a way to distract her so we can get out. I'm working on something but it'll need more than just us to accomplish."

On 9/29/2018 at 2:55 PM, Lind Whisperer said:

"Given some of the heroes Heroica's put out...not as shallow as you might think.

Huh...I honestly was expecting something a little more complicated than just walking out of the door...

Good. Let us know if and when we can help. I'm going to try and get Dyric over here - still want to find out if the Dragon Party has any insights to lend."

On 9/29/2018 at 3:20 PM, Lord Duvors said:

"To be honest I'm not yet certain about the plan, I have a number of ideas. One is that we get Arthur to send some Z-mails (ostensibly to our loved ones or other people who aren't here but really to Rosier) containing several fire bombs about to explode. However That plan's a bit dangerous as it relies on us being able to move our items between one another and send real Z-mails while in here. I'm also trying to contact Ophaniel, my angel, to see if he can help us. And one thing I'm almost certain will work (or at least irritate Rosier) is if Karie sings an Angelic Aria. I don't think Rosier has any way of preventing that. I'd also welcome any suggestions or criticisms form you lot. Whatever we do though we should do as may thing as we can all at once to catch the archdemon off guard. And once we do we have to get as many people as possible to rush the exit, that I think, will definitely have some effect. That's why we need more people also. I'm going to see about Karie and Dyric at the door, see if I can convince them to join us. Someone should definitely talk to Arthur too, even if the Z-mail plan isn't used he's clearly aware that something is wrong."

On 9/29/2018 at 3:40 PM, Lind Whisperer said:

"I like the first one, but I feel like there are a lot of ways it could go wrong...kind of feel like the Zeigfreids might have made it so that that sort of thing can't be sent through the mail. But we do have Arthur, so possibly, he could override things somehow...

If we rush the exit, I figure Rosy will just send more and more people - but who knows...

I really like that Angelic Aria idea - the Veterans won't have a single good reason why she can't sing one, and it'll really start throwing cracks through everything - like how Pretzel is asking about Patricia having died.

Yes. Talk to Karie and Dyric. Dyric doesn't seem to be picking up on any of my hints...maybe they'll listen to you.

Good work, crew, keep it up!"

On 9/29/2018 at 6:47 PM, samurai-turtle said:

IC: What if we throw a fire bomb at the door? That might keep other people from coming in... I kinda wonder who would come in if I tried to leave...

8 hours ago, Lind Whisperer said:

"I'm sorely tempted to just let off one of these Military Grade Firebombs...but I'm waiting until I can see if I can actually feel them or not. Having a bit of trouble reaching it.

I think Rosy would just have it explode, and nothing happen - except a few people getting "injured". If we're actually tied up in vines, I doubt we can trade equipment and the like...surprised she's even letting us talk to each other like this, honestly.

I think Dyric's finally catching on...I'm going to gently wave him over."

OoC: I'm having Lind try and test how his gear feels, just like Germ did the whip - as a test to see if we can actually use our inventories. (I hope so!) Waterbrick Down hasn't responded yet.

I just checked, and I'm limited to three people in a PM - so, we're going to either have to see if Kinto/Legonator can do more, or just take this public anyways. Since Mystic has finally posted, it'll make things easier - I thought I was capped at five, not three - (which means that I could have only had the five people originally mentioned) and I know WBD wants us to keep moving + he's not planning on this lasting so much longer.

I'll reach out to Legonator(OoC), but at this point, it'll just be easier to take this public. (I'll check with Kinto, but he may still have PMs disabled, don't know.)

When we go public, I'm going to C&P anything relevant from here to the main thread, for clarity, unless anyone has any objections.

This should be a publically agreed upon matter, not a secret council.

Dyric casts a look to Karie. There was certainly something up.

Excellent, Mr. Greely, just leave that with Scheherazade. I'll be seeing you soon, we can chat then.

She tests her legs before fully standing up. There was a big grin as she saw the other Heroes moving around. Hearing about the Wolfgang, she goes to the former leaders of the underground group. "So, what now? We've disbanded I see. Do you have any leads on Diana? What will the other members do now, the ones not Heroes? Or well, ex-Heroes?"

She then eases herself into a chair, trying to fight back the tears of everything she's seen.

If I'm being honest, I figured we could go and plan for something: I was thinking a trip to Charis or-" Karie is swiftly interrupted by a new arrival. One which gives her pause.

She looks back to Dyric. She didn't know who this figure in the door was, but if it caused Dyric to pause, it must be worth of suspicion. She took in a deep breath. Something about all of this hadn't sat right with her. She looked at her family, at her daughter Rachelle. Something was standing in the way of her and her family: her daughter most especially. She could sense it.

"Actually, you two, I have an idea. We'll plan the trip to Charis soon. Very soon. I have some business I need to attend to. There's someone I need to talk to. Can you wait outside for me?" Karie had a feeling the Masson and Rachelle in front of her weren't real. This wasn't the first time she was confronted by a fake Masson, but it felt like this time it hurt the most. She was so close to bringing the city to safety and securing a future for her daughter. With only a few seemingly off motions, it felt... fake. It felt idyllic. It felt like a dream.

Karie returned looking towards Dyric with an aura of melancholy surrounding her. She didn't even know if what she intended to do could work, but she had to try. Now seemed like the only chance.

"I was thinking... wouldn't it be a miracle if my sister, Kayla, could show up in this hall?"

"Karie, you didn't hear? Ulric, he... he got the Miracleworker to bring her back."

Another figure pokes out from behind Mason as the hall grows even more crowded, a few tears running down the face of the young woman as she looks at Karie.

Rone blinked in surprise. It had been a time since he had last seen the orc - was it back during the Waltzing Dragon quest? Had it really been that long? He wanted to stay and talk, to catch up... but he would have to do that with the real Cronk. Some other time...

Cronk, it's good to see you! The assassin's voice is dry and hollow, but he presses on. Hey, look, stick around and I'll be back in about twenty minutes, okay? I've got an emergency I need to attend to right away. But after that, I'll come find you.

Fighting every temptation, Dyric stepped away. He had to be testing this mastermind's patience by now. Once again, he aimed to leave the Hall

Well, you better hurry up and show me where they are, or you will be cleaning some stuff up... Germ came up with a new plan, all this talk about bombs and blowing up the walls, made Germ think of putting one of his Fire Bombs down in the toilet. And maybe if given the chance toss a Fire Bomb in the fireplace.

Torald shimmies over to Ezeran and Lind. I'm just a simple barbarian who managed to get hold of some magic. I don't have the brain capacity to understand, or mess with, all the important stuff happening. I trust you, Ezeran, with my life. And even though I don't know you that well, Lind, I do think you have a good grip of what is going on. So for the time being, I'll stick with you.

And in a very soft voice he adds: Don't forget I still have this Demon book thingy. The pandemonium or something? If we are to fight this Demon it might come in handy. But with the Founders, if they indeed are not the real ones they might want this for their own stuff and I kinda don't want that.

He opened his eyes, shook his head, and broke his awkward pose for a moment to finish his rum before resuming it.

"I've also always kinda had a thing for Ellaria. Not relevant, but hell with it. Oh, and if I seriously die, someone take care of my bird."

Atramor stabbed himself in the chest with both Mythril Claws.

"Dear friend, I trust you more than anyone here, no offence to present company. Keep that thing hidden for now."

Hoke wakes up in a shock, not sure when and why he ever fell asleep.  He is in the comfortable high-backed chair next to the hearth.  He sits up slowly, looking around, trying to figure out why this felt all wrong.

"Torc!" he calls out.

Another figure pokes out from behind Mason as the hall grows even more crowded, a few tears running down the face of the young woman as she looks at Karie.

"Hi sis..."

Karie wasn't sure what to believe when Kayla stepped in front of her. She didn't know whether she was real or not, or if everything was a dream, but for just this moment she allowed herself to buy into it. She didn't know exactly if this is how Kayla looked, or if what was being presented to her was even an accurate representation of her sister, but it didn't matter to her right now. Karie grabbed her big sister in both arms and hugged her tightly, not wanting to let go.

"I... I missed you, Kayla. I missed you a lot. I never thought I was going to see you again."

Atramor stabbed himself in the chest with both Mythril Claws.

Dyric Rone watches in horror as his friend plunges the blades into his chest. Was this still part of the dream? How many of these heroes were even real? The dream was quickly becoming a nightmare.

Testing Atramor's words, Dyric notches an arrow and fires it through the doorway when it opens, trying not to hit anyone.

 I thought that was a Town Watch uniform Greely was wearing, so I thought it was Hoples without his wig.

"Damn, Dyric, I have a feeling that there can't be anything good in that package being brought to the veterans. Do you think we should just claim it?"

Suddenly, I hear Atramor's words and watch him plunge himself through with his claws.

"Damn! If things aren't going south, but if the Nornalis is active, I wonder if he'll actually die..." I look on.

"I know something that always wakes me up from my dreams..." laughs Petaldan with a naughty smile.

Sneaking behind Boomingham's chair, Petaldan draws his sword and slices through the back two chair legs, sending the chair tumbling backwards.

"I see. Well that puts the kibosh on that plan. Thank you anyway."

Atramor unsheathed his Mythril Claws.

"Alright. Here goes."

He awkwardly lifted them up to his own chest.

He paused.

"Okay mates. This is it. Ya' got any words of encouragement, I'd love to hear 'em."

Several of the heroes push aside their feelings and make a concentrated effort for the door. Veterans, friends, and long lost love ones reach out their hands to hold the heroes back but to no avail. As Atramor brings the mythril claws down on himself time seams to slow-down. Cronk tries to push Dyric aside, Kayla and Diana attempt to pull Karie and Kiray away from the hall's entrance. Throlar hears the muffled voice of Ophaniel even as he sees the figure of Nazgulie reaching for the door. As the heroes cross the threshold and Atramor's blade sinks into his chest, the heroes' vision blurs before returning to focus. snapping all of the heroes out of their dream and back into reality. All of them push aside giant white roots that seem to have grown as blankets over them as a hulking figure glares down at them. The bodies of the veterans lay strewn across a gigantic cavern and set against the far wall a massive door inlaid with exotic wood and precious metals stands closed. Fairy dust shimmers in the air forming growing humanoid figures that assemble behind the visage of the archdemon Rosier. The false Founders stumble slightly, seemingly weakened by the siphoning force of the archdemon.
