Alright, Kiray. Let's finish this.

Dyric drops to one knee in the back row and levels the crossbow at Cannoneer B (Cannoneer A, Elite B) while the Djinn takes on Elite B from the front row. As the tower clears, Dyric looks down into the lower inner wall for more targets.

At least, I'm assuming he can do this? Also, I'm open to suggestions for Bellanotte's action.

"Right behind you." Kiray downs her smelling salts, pulls her crossbow to her chest, taking aim at and firing at Cannoneer A from the back.

Pretzel head to the Outer Wall.

"Well, that went disturbingly quickly."

"Look out everyone! That Wyvern doesn't look friendly anymore!"

Desperately, Petaldan turns to Euflear.

"Are you going to tame it again? Or what are we going to do?"

With the swashbucklers swept away by the dark tide, Arthur let out the breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding.  "Where to next?  Push forward to the lower inner wall, or clear up the upper segments first and make a coordinated push?  The summons are excellent, but finite, and I'm not sure we can take on the false Veterans at their current level of charge, especially considering what it took to stop the Doomsayer."

If the party moves, Arthur follows Pretzel's movement; if the party remains in place, Arthur instead meditates using the First Breath, unless the plan is to charge the Lower Inner Wall after a round of preparation, in which case Arthur consumes the Hero's Cocktail from the Hollow Blade of his Duplovian Swift Halberd and also uses a Tonic on Bellanotte.

Stowing his blades, Knife-Tongue gestures for everyone but Ezeran to leave the Magpie, and then for Ezeran to Flee to follow them, and moves to the Harbor.

OOC: I apologize to Pie for any grief I have ever given him over trying to write Knife-Tongue's dialogue. xD

As her vision clears up, Karie prepares to play another song from the one she had been playing before. She grins, knowing what she is about to unleash.

"Alright, heads up, we're going on the offensive. You're going to get some pep in your step, so don't hold back. Feel free to put me high in the battle order so I can affect as many people as I can. I'd prefer not getting hit while I'm playing, so spread out with your attacks."

Karie plays a Rapid March from the back row.

Well, maybe you could try one more time. And then let the others convince it to go home...

You can remove the archdemon from the battle now, it no longer has enough mana to use any of its abilities.

Atramor is, for a brief moment, taken aback as the sky dims and the archdemon rends a tear in reality with its mighty scythe, swallowing up much of the forces arrayed before them, while the rest are ripped apart by Benji's magical vortex. The rogue shakes off his surprise as quickly as possible, the archdemon evaporating into black wisps of nothingness as the rogue steps over the malformed bodies.

"Dyric and Kiray have the tower covered, for now. We gotta go reinforce Boomin'ham's team, then we can hit the lower inner wall." He turned, not missing a step as he waved the Magpie crew over to the harbor they were now leaving. Atramor darted up the steps to the Outer Wall and motioned the rest of the party and the hovering archangel to follow. "Let's make this quick, mates, we have bigger Founders to fry."

"Got it," Arthur says with a nod.  He moves to the Outer Wall alongside Pretzel, careful to remain in the Back Row so as to grant his allies Encouragement from his presence.

He began to clamber off of the boat, moving to the Harbor.

Throlar leant heavily on his staff as he gazed out over the devastation. Everywhere he looked he saw corpses, things that had only moments ago been living, breathing, thinking men who he had so fervently entreated to surrender. And now he'd never know what they'd've done in response, whether or not they'd see reason and relent or simply continue to attack.

'Why?' he thought, gesturing silently at the graveyard around him, 'Every time I try talking to people this happens! It's as if the universe is determined to prevent me from having any positive impact on what happens around me.'

Silence.

'I'm talking to you, you know. That wasn't a rhetorical question.'

"I'm sorry," said the voice that only he could hear, "I'm being more taciturn then I should. But you're wrong when you say that you have no power over events. In that fight in the tavern earlier you were able to convince some of the soldiers to leave, and you have proven adept at protecting your allies. The battle at the tower in Faerie stands out as an example of that."

'I know all that, but in comparison to the number of failures on my record it seems like nothing. And here I'm up against enemies that vastly outclass me alongside allies that seem nearly godlike in their power (sorry) and I'm the only one here who's trying to avoid unnecessary death. I can't stop my allies from fighting back against people who are attacking them, and I'm not going to help the enemy. I may not like fighting them but I still feel they're on the wrong side, albeit misguided.'

"So what will you do now?"

'Well I intend to keep trying for one, I'd be a rather poor paladin if I didn't. And if I will fight if I have to, but I'm feeling less than inspired to be honest.'

He looked up at the walls of the fortress.

"Still," he said aloud, "I have a duty to perform, regardless of how I feel."

With that Throlar set off after his companions towards the outer wall. Striding at first, before breaking out in a run, and finally just barely pulling ahead of his companions to reach the top of the walls. Looking around himself at the forces arrayed against the heroes of Heroica he summoned up all his diplomatic training and said;

"You all saw that didn't you? What happened to those men down there? I don't want you to die, but if you choose to keep fighting then I can't save you. You're vastly outnumbered and facing enemies who vastly outclass you. And tell me, do you really want to die an ignominious death here? Surely you have people who matter to you, friends, family, people you care about and care about you, do you think they want you to die?"

OOC: ...random thought, couldn't characters with broomsticks use them to bypass the movement limitations the way Hoke can fly on Torc?  Likely couldn't take passengers that way, but it'd at least be an option for getting where needed.

"Euflear..." Petaldan begins a bit hesitantly. "Do you think there's any way that you will be able to convince the resurrected founders not to persist in what they are doing? Surely, if they really aren't the evil force, but only revived by chance, they cannot be all bad and may be reasoned with?"[/color]

Hearing Throlar's plea to the remaining guards, Pretzel checks himself. A sickening feeling comes over him as he thinks about how readily he participated in the killing of the soldiers. Why was he so willing to kill these men when he hadn't been willing to put down those whom he knew.

But good men will die if these men can carry out their orders and we must not let that happen...but still, they deserve their chance. By the Name of Theleg Oco the Great, may they accept his offer.

QM Notes:

Hoke, fixed stats due to Blessed effect.
- I'll allow Broomsticks to transport the user
- Bonaparte ships are still away off, but are suppressing the remaining dragons who would have joined the fight
- Archdemon removed
- Vermilion Dragon's stats/special slightly modified so that it doesn't become game-breaking if the heroes retain control over it
- Lord Duvors, I super don't want to ignore what Throlar is doing, sorry if it's coming across as that.

Throlar rushes over to try and dissuade the remaining sailors from continuing to fight on. A few of the sailors look nervous eyeing their dead comrades on the shore of the harbor and look like they might surrender if Throlar continues his diplomacy. Cannons roar as the Bonaparte fleet nears the harbor. Cannon balls pepper the inner wall as several of the sailors are killed. With a tremendous roar and a flurry of wings a gigantic golden dragon lands inside the harbor. The trumpet continues to sound as the Founders of Heroica stride onto the blood soaked sands. The Walking Mountain stands sullenly a greataxe in his hand, beside him Lady Luck flicks her trench coat back revealing a plethora of daggers. The Miracle Worker surveys the carnage before him his eyes gray and wandering. The Golden Dragon strides forward her hand on the leg of the newly arrived dragon.

Hex Battle Notes:

  • Because we are kicking off essentially a multi-stage battle, consumables with positive effects will only last 10 rounds.
  • There are five areas: The Magpie, Harbor, Outer Wall, and Upper & Lower Inner Wall. Specials/AOE/etc. are limited in their effect to each individual area.
  • A hero may spend their turn to move to another area, however in order to leave an area there must be more heroes than enemies in the area from which they are moving.
  • Targeting enemies in an adjoining area has a 1/3 chance of success and requires a ranged attack.
  • The Upper Inner Wall can only be accessed by the Outer Wall (barring transportation via Torc)
  • The Lower Inner Wall can only access by the Harbor (barring transportation via Torc)

Arthur carefully surveys the immediate battlefield, a plan slowly coming to mind as the pieces start to fall into place.  "I think I have an idea," he says aloud, "but I need to make sure I haven't misread our tactical situation first."

OOC: Will wait for the Round to be officially finished before I start posting actions and suggestions, but I think this will work.

"Dyric," Kiray calls out, "drink some potions, we need you. Then should we start sending Hel down on the enemies below?"

Lind whispered to the heroes next to him, "Does anyone have a spare Nostrum? I could really use being Lucky in this next battle...Can definitely work out a good deal, if anyone has a spare."

6 hours ago, Waterbrick Down said:

Throlar rushes over to try and dissuade the remaining sailors from continuing to fight on. A few of the sailors look nervous eyeing their dead comrades on the shore of the harbor.

"So heroes, what point have you proven? Have you decided to add another massacre to your list of crimes? Have you not brought this city enough grief?"

"I'd be more interested in what points you think you're proving - and why you're massacring innocent civilians.

Seems to me, you're the ones bringing this city plenty of grief."

OoC: My apologies if I've responded to something that was supposed to come later...

Thanks, Kiray, Rone says, popping open a Grand Tonic and taking a swig. Good work back there, by and by.

The assassin takes a long look as the Veterans step forward into the fray.

Yeah, I reckon we should. He loads another three bolts into his sizable weapon. I'll take point up here. You and the djinn should either drop into the hangar or continue clearing the wall. 'Think I can hit that Mountain from here?

Arthur takes a second look at the battlefield, and realizes just how the situation has improved on the wall...only to curse as he realizes just how the tides have altered.  "Chesterine," he calls out, "switch your Locket out and equip the Sigil of the Cold Circle instead, then cast Darkness at the Walking Mountain from the Back Row.  Don't worry, cousin, I've got your back."  Keeping to the Back Row himself, Arthur eyes Cannoneer A warily before Throlar's shouted words break through his mental calculations, causing him to reconsider the attack; he takes a moment to meditate with the First Breath instead, before returning to barking orders.  "Marco, I need you to start taking pot-shots at the Walking Mountain from the Back Row, dual-striking to Lady Luck as your secondary target; Vindsval, Benji, Althior, Matthias, I'd appreciate you joining in on the ranged attack as well; that should keep him pinned down enough for everyone else to work around him at least.  Pretzel, I think the Pheles Kris would be a good weapon choice for the moment.  Hoke, if you could drop down and shield the others from Lady Luck's Free Hit that would be spectacular.  Everyone else up here, our job is to protect our ranged fighters while they occupy the false Founders long enough for our weaker allies to flee to safety."  Though mistrustful of the sailors, Arthur holds his shield high, hoping his stature and defensive actions would lend more credence to Throlar's diplomatic efforts.

Even as Arthur discusses the flight of the group in the Harbor below, Knife-Tongue touches Sküld and Waldorf on the shoulder and gestures for them to move to the outer wall along with him; there, at least, they had a chance against the foes arrayed before them.
