[MOC] Camellia Servo Strandbeest

Recommended Posts

Strandbeest is designed by Theodorus Gerardus Jozef who is a great Dutch artist.

Today I make my droid with Strandbeest's legs.

Each leg in this contraption has 11 movable rods and 2 fixed rods which form 8 joints.

Camellia Servo Strandbeest droid model is controlled by CAPPUCCINO controller with ARM technology.

Each body part of this droid has an individual LEGO motor to drive its moving speed, distance, time and direction.

As 8 LEGO motors are used, droid's head, body, left leg, right leg, left arm, right arm, left hand and right hand are able to be controlled cooperatively!

Left and right by two motors, each has 2 front and 2 rear legs.

Seems to shake around alot, does this happen alot?

Yes, the body will shake a little when walking.

On one hand, it is impossible to void shaking thoroughly as legs are based on joints, not hard connection. On the other hand, I lower the barycenter as possible as the space allowed to reduce shaking.

Now there are 8 legs. If more legs are used, it is more stable. But more legs need more motors to keep power and a very firm crankshaft is need. Why use more legs is because the body is so large. If only legs walking without upper body, it is good with less legs.

If any more suggestion, please say to me.Thank you very much!

Realy good moc and presantation!

May i ask which program you used for the mechanics?

The hardware controller is designed by myself. And programs are coded by myself with C. It can be controlled by WiFi with Visual Studio and mobile Bluetooth with Java.

How did you create the animations of the leg motion?

The legs motion is real. I recorded its motion with video recorder.
