Flavius Gratian Posted November 15, 2017 (edited) Update: Rendered pictures In response to the Crown's call for new cruiser squadrons to protect Corlander trade in Terra Nova, the Lavendwood family of Wentham has commissioned a brig-rigged sloop-of-war. HMS Wentham is armed with 18 guns: broadsides of 8 4 pounders and 2 "long-nine" stern chasers, to be handled by her well drilled crew and officers. This combined with her speed makes her suitable for both patrol and escort missions. The ship is ready to be licenced by the Crown @Bregir, my recommended stats are: R5, M5, G4, C4, $0, H3. I expect to recieve my 50DB compensation, as well as @Ayrlego's 200DB! Comments and critisism is much appreciated as this is my first time using the hinge technique for the hull. I have scoured various BoBS threads for guidence but can always use more! The design is inspired by HMS Speedy. Professor Thaum Posted November 15, 2017 That's a great LDD one... with full details You're ready to have one brick built !
Darnok Posted November 15, 2017 That is a fine ship, and a great addition to the Crowns proud fleet! The only things I do not like are due to LDD - those "brickbuilt" sails and flags that would never work, or the hovering boat at the back. The rest is done really well, especially the hull curvature. blackdeathgr Posted November 15, 2017 Beautiful one!!!!! I also love the size. Spot on. Not too big of a ship but not too small either Now that you have mastered the LDD building, I would encourage you to try different rendering programs (such as bluerender?) for smoother effects. If I were you, I would ask Kolonialbeamter for these things
Mike S Posted November 15, 2017 Nice! Corrington has finally an LDD champion to challenge Oleon’s Kolonialbeamter.
Spud The Viking Posted November 15, 2017 A very nice ship indeed sir! I like how many details you've packed into this, must have taken a fair bit of time. It also looks very similar to one I'm building, Corrington will rule the waves!
Kai NRG Posted November 15, 2017 An excellent ship, great curves and lots of detail!

It's not the will that's lacking, more the funds. My brick supply is somewhat limited. 1 hour ago, Drunknok said: That is a fine ship, and a great addition to the Crowns proud fleet! Thank you! I hope it will serve with distiction! Well, each to his own I guess. I think the brick sails work pretty well in LDD, at least it's better than no sails, in my opinion. Though real sails would be preferable! 1 hour ago, blackdeathgr said: Beautiful one!!!!! I also love the size. Spot on. Rendering programs sounds good, I didn't know they existed. Will look into that! 1 hour ago, Mike S said: Nice! Corrington has finally an LDD champion to challenge Oleon’s Kolonialbeamter. Then, yesterday I looked into it and got on a roll so I finished in 12 hours straight Looking forward to see your ship! 29 minutes ago, Kai NRG said: An excellent ship, great curves and lots of detail! Ayrlego Posted November 15, 2017 Great job Flavious! It is looking really nice! I like the colour scheme and I think the hinges worked very well. Rendering would make it look even better! A while ago @Kolonialbeamter recommended I use an add-on in addition with Blue Render, and I find it works really well - the add on (I forget it's name.. Bublile or something like that...) anyway it is no longer available, but I think KB mentioned recently there is a new one... As for the 200DB, I will happily pay shortly - You guys are determined to make me broke this month!!!!

Bregir Posted November 15, 2017 Flavius, where do I start? This is marvellous! You have here created a vessel that is both good looking and historically accurate. And while I appreciate all the different approaches to ship building in BoBs, the one closest to my heart is undoubtedly this one. Let me give you a few comments: 1) She is far too good not to be rendered. I hope @Kolonialbeamter can help you, or that someone can dig up a guide, cause I really want to see her rendered. :) 2) I am loving your description - taking the time to make a small historical description with details on her armament and back story like you have done here really gives it that extra flavour to me. My only wish was that you had included the size of the broadside guns. (probably 4-pounders?) :) 3) Hull Generally, I think you have mastered the hinges technique fairly well, both in your use of vertical and horizontal hinges. If anything, (Although it is hard to make out) she might be a little straight-sided. Could you show us a picture of the hull from above? Both bow and stern appear very well built. I particularly like the gun ports and davits at the stern. Slightly more elaborate headrails could make her bow a bit more interesting, but I am not sure that would be historically accurate. :) 4) Rigging Very well done with nice overall proportions (which are hard to get right) and a great attention to detail, like the masts and bowsprit in several pieces. My favourite detail is how your spanker boom is attached to the mainmast - I have been looking for such a solution for a while now. The brick built sails (and flag! :O) works well for LDD and you have managed a nice shaping. 5) Detailing Nice guns, ladders, tiled deck, brick built boat and minifigs all finish off the build nicely, making it come alive. All in all, a very strong entry to the cruisers incentive, and an impressive 2nd vessel, sir. Good to have you on board and hope you will share your experience with the rest of us. You are definitely in a position to offer advice to the rest of us in shipbuilding! And should you ever land a pot of gold, building her in the Brick would be great! :)
Bodi Posted November 16, 2017 Nice ship Flavius! I like the curve of the hull, it looks very realistic with all the details you've included. Good job!

Though, the real reason I didn't add any is that I don't know how to do it On 2017-11-15 at 11:50 PM, Bregir said: Very well done with nice overall proportions (which are hard to get right) I'm not sure if they aren't too broad, particularly the foresail and topsail On 2017-11-15 at 11:50 PM, Bregir said: My favourite detail is how your spanker boom is attached to the mainmast - I have been looking for such a solution for a while now.
