pombe Posted October 7, 2017 (edited) Dramatis Personae: Spoiler Sea Rats Ethylene Glycol Professor of science. A former faculty member at a prominent Corrington university, she was dismissed after failing to have her grants and fellowships renewed as a result of years of failing to publish in peer reviewed scientific journals. Railing against the scientific institution's insistence that data obtained from experiments must be reproducible and come from well controlled rational approaches to testing a model, Professor Glycol has decided to start her own university of higher learning at the Port of Bastion, where she can do science the proper way and publish in her own independent journal with herself as the sole reviewer, unfettered by the rules of the intellectually inferior. Lucy Liu Sixth year graduate student with no publications. Bitter and jaded, with hatred for the entirety of existence, Lucy followed her advisor to the Port of Bastion, because no other faculty members would accept her as a student after being already mentored by Professor Glycol. Highly intelligent and talented, she has languished in academic hell for the past six years, trying in vain to get her advisor to adopt the practices of the other science professors. Wilhemina Savore A graduate student in civil engineering, with an interest in siegecraft. Prefers to be called Willy. Alois Bieber First year graduate student with no publications. As a former Olean soldier in the Order of Faith, he was a leader against the principles of science, when he attempted to disrupt a seminar being given by Professor Glycol. Instead, he found himself understanding her talk and becoming interested in the subject. Confused and bewildered, he spent two years soul searching until he was able to accept that he had been wrong his whole life. Alois then sought out Professor Glycol, explained his scientific enlightenment, and became her student. Oleon Harriet Schwartz A captain in the Oleon navy and a master naval tactician. She fell in love with an Oleon soldier named Alois Bieber, due to his intractable religious faith and his outspokeness against the principles of science, not to mention his super hot looks. She courted him, only to be horrified as she witnessed his turn to heresy at the hands of the blasphemous Professor Glycol. Now she is on a mission to get him back from the Sea Rats and return him to the truth of the Oleon faith, while making him hers. Helmut Dark An officer in the Oleon navy and Captain Harriet Schwartz's first officer. Professional and loyal, he follows his captain's every command, while putting up with her shortcomings. Dieter Picante A young Oleon navy officer in Captain Harriet Schwartz's crew. Previously, https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/147698-sr-ch5a-catch-me-im-falling/.... Somewhere on the high seas... Wait. What happened to the Absolutely Fabulous? What better way to start BoBS Era II than to sail around Terraversa on a new ship? Besides, the Absolutely Fabulous was a lame microbuild, anyway. It was built specifically for stupid gags in the story line. Hmm...there is nothing you just said that I want to argue against. Something is wrong. Behold, the Nerdy Mermaid! She's a Class 3, with a range of 4, manueverability of 4, 0 firepower, crew of 2, cargo of 3, and a hull of 2. It's still just a microbuild, you stupid professor! Just a microbuild?! Do you know how many dark tan jumper plates went into the Nerdy Mermaid's construction?! PICK-A-BRICK WALL!!! Shhh! Stop giving away our secrets. Besides, Willy spent a lot of time putting this ship together. While I am proud of it, it really didn't take that long. I estimate around 10 hours for just the ship. Wait. Willy put this thing together? Is it safe? Last time she built bunkers out of sand! It's safe. I browsed the internet forums and built her out of clay like other posters suggested. WHAT?!?! Just kidding. I have been wondering about something, though. There are no soldiers on board, but we have a crew rating of 2. How come? Unlike the casual Olean soldier, Alois was a hardcore raider. He's level capped and fully equipped with legendary items, which makes him count as 2 crew by himself. MAXIMUM DPS!!! You're both in the wrong forum! This isn't Heroica! Calm down. You're always so angry, Lucy. I hate you all. Spoiler Comments and criticisms are all welcome! Edited October 7, 2017 by pombe
Darnok Posted October 7, 2017 Brilliant! You also have a very funny writing style - I just spent half an hour digging through older stories of yours, and couldn't stop laughing. I absolutely love it. The microscale ship is excellent, and the flowing waves... so awesome. An all around great display. Please, more of this!
Elostirion Posted October 7, 2017 for accepting your "micro" as a real ship license. Fantastic, really! And quite unique. I love it.
Professor Thaum Posted October 7, 2017 This one is absolutely fabulous !!!
Sir Stig Posted October 7, 2017 Yay! I've been missing your story telling technique. Shoreline and water is outstanding. Hefty amount of curves and detail on that scale.
Garmadon Posted October 7, 2017 Gotta admit, that micro-ship is really awesome! Your wave effect here is splendid as well - excellent build.

Kwatchi Posted October 8, 2017 We're going to be picking up pieces of that shattered fourth wall for weeks. As I said elsewhere, it is a lovely ship regardless of size.
Capt Wolf Posted October 8, 2017 Fantastic ship! And this story may be one of my favorites of yours. We want MOAR.
Bregir Posted October 8, 2017 Great looking vessel, Pombe. The snotted jumper plates are surprisingly effective in creating the hull shape, and I think your brick built brig rig is very well done. The whole scene is really nice, and I like the way you made the water. And of course, it is always amusing to read your stories! ;) (Also, leadership-note: Normally, we do not allow ships a rating above their absolute size, but unless any of my colleagues protest, I think the inclusion of a large scene makes it reasonable to accept this as a class 3 as stated.) blackdeathgr Posted October 8, 2017 I see some really nice techniques on this ship and the sea and I love them! Gogogo for class 3! We really missed your witty writing so please write (and build) moreeeee! I can't wait to see where that theatrical troupe of yours will end up for this new Era
pombe Posted October 10, 2017 (edited) Great news, everyone! The reviews for Willy's ship are all around positive and the manuscript was just published in the prestigious Journal of the Brothers Brick! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Well, that was certainly surprising. It's not all positive. Look at where the editor writes that he doesn't like the tiled lettering. JEALOUSY!!! Indeed. Spoken like a sixth year grad student with no papers.
