Important reminder about ship limits and the MRCAs

Recommended Posts

Some quick reminders about some of the new ship rules in Era II that affect your ability to participate in the MRCAs:

-Players start out with the ability to operate up to 10 ship levels in the MRCA. If you want to operate more than 10 ship levels, you need to purchase additional levels (see the ship licensing form).

-Trade Companies start with the ability to operate 0 ship levels. If a Trade Company operates any ships in an MRCA, it must purchase the ship levels.

-When purchasing additional ship levels, a small non-licensable build is required to explain or illustrate the transaction in some fashion. See here for an example. One build is required per entity per increase. *IF* the build meets the normal requirements, it *CAN* be licensed as a property.

According to the Active Ship Summary spreadsheet, seven players have currently licensed more than 10 ship levels each. If they plan on operating all of those ships in this MRCA (both Adventure MRCA and Trade MRCA combined), they will need to purchase additional ship levels.

Also according to the Active Ship Summary spreadsheet, no trade companies have currently licensed any ships. If they plan on licensing and operating any ships in this MRCA (both Adventure MRCA and Trade MRCA combined), they will need to purchase ship levels.

See the About Ships thread and the Ship License form for more information on ship levels, ship level limits, and purchasing additional ship levels.

Thanks for the reminders, Capt!  Just to make sure (as I'm one of those folks who licenced over 10 levels without remembering to level up :pir-grin:) - no need to level up unless I'm going to use the ships in the MRCA, correct?

E.g. (as is indeed the fact) - I licence a class 2, a class 3, and a class 7.  If I licenced the class 7 and 3 first, would the class 2 be unavailable for any use until I purchase the next level, or would I be fine with going ahead and using any two of those ships (case in point, the 2 and 3), as long as I leave the other out for this MRCA, or until I level up?  In other words, can you not licence above your ship limit, or not participate in the MRCA above your limit?

I think I should be fine anyways (I believe I licenced the two smaller ships first), but (a) I don't perfectly remember , and (b) it would be helpful for future reference.  Another question (while I'm at it ) would be whether, in the case that licencing order doesn't matter, a person can swap out which ships they're using in different MRCAs (to continue with the previous example, say the class 7 and 3 the first run, and the 2 and 3 the next) as long as they're under the limit for that MRCA, or again, does it depend on which were licenced first?  (I suppose that issue pretty much hangs on the former.)

Thanks, anyways!  Looking forward to this run! :excited:

EDIT:   Saw that Bregir had just answered my question in court, but one of you may as well post it again here for clarification to those who can't see it there, please!

@Garmadon Its just how many shiplevels you are running per MRCA. You could own 300 shiplevels if you really wanted to, but only use as many at a time as your limit allows.

Legostone answered your main question, but to clarify this point, it does not matter what order in which you license ships. You can own/license as many ships and ship levels as you want. The limits only pertain to how many you can run in the MRCA. In your example here, you could use any 2 of the 3 ships you licensed if you do not purchase additional ship level limits.

Alright, great!  Should help make it easier to keep track of things/less complicated.  Thanks!

Thanks for the reminder Cpt Wolf! I have also licensed more than 10 ship levels and paid for the upgrade but I forgot the small-ish MOC to explain the whole thing (i.e. the sea tycoon Hugo D'Offren )

Hi, so I didn't license the WTC Aurora as my free class 2 so right now, as far as I can tell, I'm sitting at 11 levels.

WTC Aurora = 2

WTC Beacon = 4

WTC Icarus Returning = 5

Total = 11

If this could be amended to having the WTC Aurora be my freebie, that would be great. I do not want to have to buy ship levels at the moment.

Secondly, As I am the sole proprietor of he WTC (Though anyone is willing to join!) Please Consider Count Mesabi and the WTC the same entity for the time being.

You licensed the WTC Icarus Returning as a class 6, so you're at 12 levels. Also, it doesn't matter if the WTC Aurora is a free license or not, as the ship levels would still count against the limit. Without buying the extra levels, you can't run all three ships this MRCA. That said, if you're short the DBs, PM me and I'll loan it to you.

As for changing the WTC Aurora to a free license, I'm not sure who to check with. @Legostone? @Phred?

Shoot. Thanks, but I should be okay. Zeus Bless the Bank of Corrington!

Yes, those would be the proper individuals to notify.  Your entry for the class 2 vessel has been fixed.

That was really a great idea, I love those small scenes we have seen over the past few days!

Just to confirm... is it greater than 10 levels that require extra purchase?

For example, if I licensed a level 4 and a level 6 vessel, would I need to purchase an upgrade to use them both?

Yes, starting at 11 you'll need to buy additional levels to use the extra ship (levels) in the MCRA.

No upgrade needed. You start out with 10 free ship levels, they'd be maxed out with a class 4 and class 6, but not exceeded, so you'd be fine without an upgrade

Are "ship level" increases only available in increments of 25?  and that would add 25 to the ship level, correct?  Just making sure I'm clear on how it works....lol

Yes, and players start with 10 ship levels. :)

And what happens when I exceed the 10+25 level? Am I allowed to expand the ship limit further, and am I entitled to another free class 1 boat at each increment?

You can upgrade up to 110 total shiplevels, each time adding 25 levels (the cost is higher each time though, so make sure you have enough PIPS and DBs, I'm sure we have a list somewhere, else I can go find it). Factions go up to 125 (currently) and TCs to 100.

Nope, only a single free class 2 vessel. Not upkeep free either though...

Ok...that seems reasonable. Although a small free stuff at each expansion would be nice.:pir_laugh2:

Haha, at the point where you are spending 400+ DB a MRCA in upkeep you don't worry about 120 DB for a class 2 license :pir-laugh:

Is there a post that shows what the "level" is for all of the player created towns?  I thought I saw it but can't seem to find one now....

The ranking of settlements change all the time, hence it is handled in the Google sheet. It would be an absolute horror to maintain.

However, for trade values, I believe you will find a snapshot on the first page of this topic.
