In hindsight; maybe it did. Sorry @SDLgo9

speaking of 7740 in lufthansa colors here it is:

7740 lufthansa

as you said the doors are not available in this color. you would have to use stickers.

Oh no, I think your warning was perfect and appropriate. There are a lot of newbe folks in this forum who bump a 5 yr old post and at best, gum up the recent activity, and at worst, reignite some squabble that was settled years ago. It would be impossible for the admins to read between the lines to differentiate the small difference between constructive vs vacant posts. So this is the one out of ten that does add to the conversation. For which I think the wording was perfect with "please be careful". @Jim did not say "don't" he said "be careful"

Hi. Please be careful with bumping old topics. Only bump old topics if there is useful information to add to the conversation. Thanks!

And in this case I would totally agree with you that @SDLgo9 sparked a great discussion. SDL exercised care and Jim's comments are still relevant for all of the other ancient threads (a small number of which should judiciously be revived at some point in the future). Jim's comments in this thread transcend this thread.

This looks so good! Although, unfortunately in addition to the doors not existing in that color the 1x6 light prism holders in the engine only exist in red and black. I would absolutely buy this if it was a set.

the light prism holders could be replaced by regular 1x1 modified bricks but you loose the lighting then obviously unless you use smd leds and mod the 1x1 modifieds to allow the cables to run through them.

Red 7760 is a classic, 7725 is nice in all colors (also in Rainbow consist!), 7810 and 7710...I'll leave them as they are, but 7810 could be a nice Christmas Train. 7720 can be built in 7760s blue disguise, or in yellow. Black is elegant but 2x2 windows are expensive. 7735 locomotive can virtually be in any color (it depends on "grille" bricks).:classic:

7720 can also be built in green (replacing the shutters with ridged 1x2 bricks). The coaches it's pulling are a mixture of 7710 and 7715 types, in 7740 colours.

Talking of 7740, it seems to come out quite well in Blacktron black / yellow.

As does 7760 (substituting 1x2 windows for the 1x3s). Also visible in the background: 7810 in green, and the edge of 7818 in white / red / blue.

Normally, I'm not much of a fan of Lego Theme trains, but this looks awesome!

Ooooh very nice and - I'd say -  appropriate color for the 7720!!! :pir-love:

I did not consider green color since I'm always thinking at the colors/parts available in the 80s (it's a sick thing of mine :imperialguard_commander1:, i know).

Thanks! If you don't like the idea of a Blacktron theme, you can always call it "4559 colours" :classic:

I experimented with green because I had a fair amount of it to hand - it works quite well replacing red in a lot of models (such as the big 7777 diesels, or the 7730 diesel shunter). And there are green train doors and 1x2x3 windows, which is helpful. It might have been considerably more challenging to try and replicate an 80s model in purple or lime green. There's a bit more freedom in 80s locomotives than coaches, because they often just need doors rather than doors and windows. I think there'd be even more freedom when recolouring blue-era models, because they tend to be built from generic bricks and don't require colour-limited doors and windows.

I did try sketching the 7740 locomotive in LeoCAD to see if it could be done in 30575 colours. It looks possible:

It might also work on 7750 or the 7777 Pacific, though I haven't tried to mock those up. Recolouring 7750 (or 7727, 7730) would be one way of avoiding the requirement for those black windows...

I recovered in the meantime some old drawings in Ldraw and reshaped them a bit using Stud.io.

7720 in different flavours!

The black one is probably the most expensive 7720 that can be built, but it can cost a lot more with a 12v red motor! It was re-colored to look alike the first DB diesels, like the V20.  :pir-blush:

Yellow one features the 4,5v yellow motor - to recall a MOW train (pulling for example the 7814 crane).

Actually, the 7760-like blue one existed for a few weeks, before i dismantled it to build my SW10 replica in 12V (one of my first posts here in EB). The blue 7720 was then built in XXL format in one of my first experiments in big scale trains.

1280x960.png

But a workhorse like the 7720 wants some wagons to pull, so......here's some 7777 wagons:

1280x960.png

I add here one of my first drawings in Ldraw (2010). It's a 7720 in Edelweiss paint scheme (inspired by an old Marklin H0 model):

1280x960.png

Here's the 7810 Christmas Edition!

1280x960.png

and a more recent project, for Circuit Cubes motors, a revamped 723 (once it was 12v!):

Green is indeed athe most correct color for many locomotives pity it was scarcely used in the past !

That 7740 is awesome!!!

Nice - the red/white/blue one reminds me of the 1960s style of tipper wagons.

It looks like an orange 7720 would be possible (replacing the shutters with the style of grilles used in idea book 241), which I think would also look good on a works train.

52048274246_05e87c9278.jpg

I also had a go at mocking up a 7750 in 30575 colours - sacrilege?

Good point! The inspiration for tipper wagons colors did come from old 60s sets, indeed!

For the 7720 - it's lovely in orange! Speaking of 241/242 - here's the original...

...and a recolored, modified one:

The 7750 is really nice, its color reminds me the central stripe of some Amtrack trains!

It doesn't look bad in the physical plastic, to my way of thinking.

We didn't discuss 7755 before. Here it is in azure:

52147364454_01e5072f9b_z.jpg

I'm taking the alternative model to be some sort of maintenance vehicle, so it should be orange:

52147147303_2473f91bba_z.jpg

And its little brother from 7777:

52147124206_86f2ab82a1_z.jpg

I also thought the other day that the tank wagons 136 / 7813 / 7816 would have a lot of scope for recolouring. An Octan 7816 looks reasonably straightforward, but remembering how many different designs of tank wagon Hornby (for example) made, that's only scratching the surface.
