12v trains in alternative colours - looking for some inspiration

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

im looking to build some 12v models in alternative colours. E.g. 7745 in all black or 7755. Looking at Bricklinking cheaper parts. Wondered if anyone had some pictures they may have of stuff they had done for some inspiration? Thanks in advance and I look forward to hopefully seeing some of your creations. ?

Hi @exstatik I have done a 7760 in medium blue, had the same thoughts about copying a great classic design with less expensive parts

7760

Alternative colours for 7760 maybe green, yellow, red, black or withe.

The 7755 can also be done in blue, yellow, black or withe, or maybe an Octan-Livery.

7745 might be somewhat more tricky, due to the given two-colour pattern on the doors, but if you find an other solution for the doors, create some stickers, or dont care about original pattern, the possibilities are nearly endless.

BTW, I would like to see a 7755 MOC in orange, similar to this one Locon orange

Just give it a try

Regards

This push-along copy of the engine in set 7722 was my gateway into Lego trains around 2003 or so. I later added a My Own Train (set 3741) style tender, a baggage car from 7722, and four 7715 - style coaches. (The diesel loco was added from a digital creation by @Chromeknight way back in 2011, long after the rest of the set had been completed, and should be ignored for the purposes of this post.)

...as you can tell, I had a thing for black and red, as I have another later train in this color-scheme, plus a two track shed, and water + coaling towers.

That blue looks fantastic! I would never have thought to pick such a shade but it looks great. I love those grill parts as well. Great work. Yes, I think I might give the 7755 a try before trying a 7745 for ease! ?

Nice! I like the starkness of the black with the red stripe. I was considering doing a black 7725 but actually seeing that baggage car has made me think about adding a red one to my 7725. Thanks for sharing. I'd love to see that engine shed at some point. Thanks!

@Heppeng Looks like something from the 1976 US bicentennial color schemes, great work!

Also, @exstatik, here is my train shed as you requested:

When I was looking for a 12v moc I found AJW's updated version of the 162. I have built it myself and call it my 7762. I particularly love the axle configuration on this one. See his post from 2009 and his Flickr pages. He also updated the 727.

Fantastic to see you have been inspired by my updated version of 162 and built one yourself. Is it identical to mine or have you made any enhancements? I'd love to see a photo!

Great you're still around. You really did an awesome job on this one. I fell in love with it because it blends in with other grey era trains very well, yet is completely different from the official trains.

I tried to keep as close to your model as I could. I used 1x6 tiles over the door so the roof comes off more easily. And I put on red headlight bricks because the 162 has them, but I still don't know if I like them. And finally I've replaced the 1x2 brick behind the black ladders with two 1x2 inverted slopes because the ladder kept falling off. And that's about it.

Completely awesome!

I agree about the ladders falling off! When I reinspected my model, I found that I had made a similar adjustment. I used a 1 x 4 plate, but I think your solution of inverted sloped bricks is better so I have updated my model with your idea.

As to the lamps. Well I seem to remember doing quite a bit of experimentation with those as well as the exhaust pipe that comes out of the top of the engine housing and never being quite satisfied with the result. But as 162 has them I think a bit more experimenting is required...

I think 7810 looks quite good in 30575 colours:

Or with a slightly redesigned smokebox:

I always wanted to recreate a 7740 in Lufthansa Express livery, but yellow/white doors were a showstopper for me!

Here some ideas I thought in many many years...:hmpf:

Red 7760 is a classic, 7725 is nice in all colors (also in Rainbow consist!), 7810 and 7710...I'll leave them as they are, but 7810 could be a nice Christmas Train. 7720 can be built in 7760s blue disguise, or in yellow. Black is elegant but 2x2 windows are expensive. 7735 locomotive can virtually be in any color (it depends on "grille" bricks).:classic:

Ciao!

Davide

i think his post added useful information to the topic. besides why open a new one if what he built matches the topic perfectly? i mean generally the rule makes sense but here?
