Hello everyone,

I'm presenting you the startout of my latest MOC: the Peterbilt 579. Here are the functions it will have:

-Drive(2 L motors)

-Steering(with servo)

-Working steering wheel(servo)

-Gearbox shifting(M motor)

-suspension(Independent on front, springless dual axle on rear)

-suspended cab

-opening doors and hood(discreet mechanism)

Here's what I have:

IMG_2978

You can see the drivetrain is basically complete, and the springless dual axle (don't worry, it's not the 42070 setup ;))

There will be double wheels on the rear.

Diagram of the suspension.

And that's all I have for now.

I have also started think about the grille and bodywork. Bodywork wizards, please leave a suggestion as to how I can make those because I'm drawing blanks

Thanks for reading, updates soon!

Is it Sariel's gearbox?

Basically, but in the next update you will see that that shifter is different.

Not a bad start at all, but I admitt cab and front nose are from aerodinamical reasons very complicated to make from LEGO :sadnew:

UPDATE TIME!

Hello everyone,

The chassis is nearly done. Front suspension with steering has been added and tests have begun. So far the drivetrain is working fine on all gears.

The gear shifter has now also been added. Here are the pictures:

IMG_2986

The front suspension needs to be fixed. I know how and I will fix it before the next update.

I have started thinking about bodywork, and I have made several prototype headlights, but I just can't get any to work. If you have a suggestion on how to build the headlights, please leave for me.

As well (sidenote) here are the blueprints for the truck:

So that's all for now. Leve a comment with a suggestion on how to make this project the best it can be!

That is why I prefer classic cabovers

UPDATE TIME!

So over the last 2 days, I have been designing the part I was most excited about... the cab. The hood is a whole different story right now.

Here's what I have. The next update will be mostly chassis mods and cab interior.

As you can tell, the inside is a bit of a mess:wacko:

If you have suggestions on how I can improve this, please tell me.

That's all for now!

Wow! The use of panels on the top of the cabin is so smart

I'm also looking forward to the nose design :sweet:

That update should come soon! So far it's quite hard :sceptic: but that's alright. Thanks!

@BrickbyBrickTechnic I'd like to echo the above - the top of the cabin looks fantastic, it's an area I've previously struggled with in terms of finding a good-looking solution (the other being decent fenders/mudguards which sit quite close to the wheels, but without the use of flex axles...)

Will you be adding lights, horns etc. to the roof?  Or keeping the lines clean?

I think it will stay clean. Lights might be added, but no horns.

UPDATE TIME!

This update is massive if anything. This is basically 2 updates in 1.

Interior

I have added an interior to the cabin. Seats, dashboard, steering wheel. That's it.

IMG_3000

Rear

I also started to complete the back. I added an initial mechanism for the 5th wheel which didn't work because it was super flimsy.

IMG_2997IMG_2998

Rear fenders added, too:

IMG_2999

Now after taking these pictures, I rebuilt the back almost completely. New fifth wheel mechanism, accurate lights added. Should I make the fenders white?

IMG_3003IMG_3004

Front

This part will need some criticism and tips from you, as it is not all good right now.

IMG_3002

The lights are fine, the grille needs some changing. I don't know how I can fit a more accurate grill into 5x7 space. HELP ME!

IMG_3001IMG_3005

The hood is also needing improvement. Help here too please!

IMG_3006IMG_3007

Top view... ouch.

So where I need help:

Hood and grille.

Thanks for reading! I hope you have a solution.

Could you maybe remove 2 of the short (5L?) red liftarms in the hood, plus the red bushes in between the red pin with bushes at front of the hood? Basically to make the top 2 studs narrower so it doesn't overhang the sides of the hood as much?

also it might be costly, but replacing the LbG elements of the grille for matching custom chrome pieces could be an option

edit forgot to say, it already looks amazing, at least to my eyes

Have you considered making the rear frame longer? It looks odd with those two rear axles put right under that long cab.

I have not, in fact. Let me see what I can do about that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
