Bank of Corrington Pioneer Loan Scheme

Spoiler

On arrival in Terra Nova, Corlander citizens of good standing may apply for the Terra Nova Pioneer Loan from the Bank of Corrington. This one-time-only loan will be available in several increments to suit different circumstances and is designed to give new arrivals an initial economic foothold in the new world. Interest will not be charged on the loan, but rather will be serviced by investment in crown projects. On application for the loan, Her Majesties representatives in Terra Nova will be consulted, and projects will be proposed in exchange for the loan funds. The ownership of the properties generated by these projects shall be either the settlement or Crown. The loan will still be required to be paid back, although no time-frame will be stipulated. The following is a guild of the loan packages available:

100DB - One small property of type and location to be advised

200DB - Two small properties or one medium property of type and location to be advised.

300DB - Four small properties or two medium properties of type and location to be advised

For example, John Brickton arrives in King's Harbour and applies to the Bank of Corrington for a 200DB Pioneer Loan. Governor Cooke stipulates that Quinnsville requires one small artisan and Mooreton Bay one small factory. John Brickton agrees and is paid 200DB. He builds a small artisan in Quinnsville which the Governer licenses to the settlement. He then builds another factory in Mooreton Bay which Governer Cooke licenses to the faction. John now uses the 200DB loan to license a trading vessel. As he begins to make his fortune, he pays back the Bank of Corrington in small increments when he can afford it.

The loans will be sponsored by the private estates of Montoya and Allcock and administered by the Bank of Corrington.

OOC

It has been common practice for sometime now that wealthier players donate a gift of doubloons to new sign-ups. These gifts have steadily become larger and after some discussion, faction leadership agree that they are possibly taking away some of the challenges for new members and further devaluing the EGS. Thus from now on financial gifts for new members will be strongly discouraged, rather any exchange of money should be in the form of a loan. The scheme presented above will be official faction policy, although private loans will of course also be allowed, it is just asked that their terms should be suitably challenging without being too difficult.

The following IC loan is proposed for new players, who may apply for this one-time-only loan upon joining and signing up for the EGS. As interest on the loan, rather than money they agree to build properties for the crown as determined by Corrington leadership. The loan will still be required to be paid back, although no deadlines shall be set. This way new players get a boost, as does the crown.

And what size of loan are you considering? :)

Exactly this!

As I'm working on a class 4 Ship I thought about 300 DB. Maybe you can give me then some Advice which stats for the ship would be the best to make some trade DBs.

Welcome to Ensign William Thomas. Nice backstory and troops! It will be interesting to follow his adventures in the Brick Seas.

A tip: I generally find that when posting more pictures, it makes the post easier and more pleasant to read if the pictures and text is mixed up a bit. A little text, then the relavent picture, and then some more text, etc.

Consider it approved! Once the ship is posted, we can effectuate the transfer. Location and nature of builds will be defined at that point.

As to the best stats. Hmm, they really all do what they say.

Range is how far you can travel/how fast you are on the map.

Manoeuvre is how well the ship manoeuvres in a fight or hæse.

Guns, how much long range firepower it has; and hull how well it will perform in a close quarters smashing match. Crew how many to board/repel boarders. Cargo how much cargo it can carry.

For a merchant ship, really all that matters is range and cargo. But going all out in these will mean little chance of escaping or surviving an attack. That can be remedied by various tactics. One can be to increase manoeuvre to hope to be able to escape, or guns/hull/crew to be able to handle itself in a fight. Alternatively, sail it with escorts or as part of a convoy.

The most profitable ship will be the one that carries the most cargo (with bonus for being first at a destination and for having travelled far). But that is risky, if pirates show up.

So there really is no short answer :pir-tongue:

License is billed per MRCA turn. However, for your first ship(s) you will not incur any upkeep, as the first 100 dbs of upkeep is free. :pir-huzzah2:

Hi guys, sorry for being here in the wrong "nation"...
I'm going to start a AMRCA in the Northern Ocean, starting from Breshaun, circumnavigating Mardier and going East, looking for a North-West passage (I know that it would be more logical starting directly from Northern Oleon, but it would seem a little "gamey", starting too near to the destination while all the AMRCAs have always started in the New World… I'll find a reason, such as need for skilled explorers or for a robust warship). Most of the intermediate stops are still to be defined, but I'd like to flesh out some of the northern regions, such as Altonia, a whaling settlement in Northern Oleon, and (and that's why I'm here) maybe Balondia, the little Corrrish island North of Mardier and somewhere in Northern Corrington itself.

Nobody has ever represented those areas, but I think I should ask your opinion about possible real world inspirations! I thought about Balondia as something like Gibraltar or Malta (Mediterranean culture, but British rule) and about Northern Corrington as a Scotland-inspired region (we have Clan Spud, Corrish Highlanders…). What do you think? Any idea about the Corrish islands?

@Keymonus I don't think we have ever really developed any official lore for those regions. Personally I've always thought of Balondia as Irish, indeed one of my secondary characters is from Balondia and speaks with an Irish type accent... however now that the lore has been developed for that part of the Madrice Peninsular, it seems there are two main cultures in the area; a Mediterranean(Spanish/Italian) type culture (Eslandola/Mardier/Namere) and a more Germanic/Nordic/Dutch culture (Garvey/Altonia/Carno). I think we even hint in one of the write ups that the Mediterranean inspired culture were the original inhabitants and the Germanic styles came later in a wave of migration. So with that all established, your assumption of Malta/Gibraltar would seem to make more sense than Irish (the closest culture we have to Irish is probably Varcoast). I think you'd be pretty safe to depict Balondia either way.

As for the little island above Mardier... I'm not sure we even have a name for it. I think it may be the Isle of Tam that is mentioned at the start of this thread but @Bregir may be able to confirm that? (If we do I really should do a map....) I certainly don't recall any previous builds but I've generally thought of those islands above our Northern coast and that one of Mardier as being somewhat Scandinavian like the Faroe Islands or maybe the Shetland Islands. The Northern coast of the mainland I think it is pretty safe to say is exactly how you describe it - a Scottish inspired region of clans and highlands.

My second SigFig- Field Operative George Ricketts, Corrish Intelligence.

Various Corrington Units

Recent correspondence between Ricketts and Corrington Intelligence:

Mr. George Ricketts,

It is increasingly apparent that quality informational and situational intelligence in foreign and domestic colonial possessions is necessary for the security of Corrington. Your assistance in internal operations to protect the citizens and informational assests has been invaluable, however the Secretary is in need of more operatives for programs abroad. Furthermore, the Intelligence board officially offers you a position, in which you will operate covertly to eliminate threats both foreign and domestic. You will operate only under the Queen’s and the Secretary’s jurisdiction, by accepting this position you assume all risks associated. At your appointment, you will be dispatched iverseas immediately. I hope you consider this opportunity.

-Corrington Board of Intelligence

Corrington Board of Intelligence,

I, George Ricketts, accept this offer and have informed the appropriate authorities of my transfer.

-Ricketts

Background-

Ricketts is known for his reform and professionalization of city watchmen and the constabulary. Before his offer, he worked in the Juniper regions, arresting and executing spies and criminals. Recently, he uncovered a Lotii spy ring, which was attempting to predict Corrington’s next move in El Oleonda. His is noted to be quite the partygoer, but not by choice. (It isn’t uncommon for attendees at these parties to ‘disappear’) He has a pleasant personality that can quickly turn sour when needed.

-He is pictured in his dress uniform, which is rather plain, but he seldom wears it in the field.

@Keymonus & @Ayrlego: I think Malta/Gibraltar/Minorca for Balondia makes sense. Can't recall any particular efforts in those areas that has gone against that.

As to the Isle of Tam, I will see if I can dig up something - we did define it at some point. But as for cultural references, Scottish/Norwegian for the north, and north atlantic islands for the island would be fairly accurate, I think.

 @Sir Kingston

Interesting character! If he has no other plans, the expedition on Terraversa could use a capable intelligence officer.

(And just a quick note for future posts- while you have done it very elegantly, generally when making statements on behalf of Corlander autorities, you should clear it with the faction first - to ensure continuity and consistency with policies and organisation. No harm done this time - just consider it next time. :pir-classic:)

Did I hear Terraversa? Interesting... @Sir Kingston if I'm not mistaken that agent of yours is wearing an OL officer jacket, not sure if it's a good idea to him to send him on the field dressed like this, he may face a different fate than Sir Cooke, who's already enjoying Terraversans hospitality.:pir_tong2:

I guess in a way he is, but it could also be interpreted as an OL dragoon’s jacket...:pir-tongue: I could have used the more common officer torso with red sash, but it has problems, most notably the strange layout of the facings and buttons. There really is a lack of choices when it comes to LEGO age of sail uniforms:pir-look:.

Thank you for your suggestions! My ship (Le Phénix) will reach Weelond in this AMRCA turn, so I finally have a ship to start with! The time of finishing a colonial office and some writings, and I'll start exploring the Northern Ocean!

I actually created a small backstory about my main character, who hails from the uncharted north. So if you want to use any of the info I created in your adventure, feel free!

I used a lot of Viking/Norse/Inuit influences. I kind of styled them as the descendants of Viking like people, who still hold on to their warrior heritage, while embracing the more modern technologies that have developed in Southern Halos.

In terms of Viking like people, you may want to look into the far western "Kingdom of the Great Raider". The inspiration to that has been hinted to be something in between the viking and the mongol raiders, although never completely defined. It is very big, so some creative leeway is definitely permissible. :pir-classic:

A letter arrived at the desk of Don Isaac Montoya  @Bregir :

"My dear Sir,

I am writing you to officially ask your Services to help me getting back the last vessels your fleet got back from dreadful Pirates.

I could understand the Terraversa situation could be a priority for you but I can unsure you that my personal interests have been directly involved in Terraversa since we were indeed strongly hit by mere rats who managed to steal from us some merchant vessels after sunking their escort around the island.

I am talking about The Lady Hawk, The Raenette, and Lady of Madrice II

The 2 first vessels being a property of MAESTRO and by this way, my property, I was designed to be your main contact in this business.

I totally understand the recapture of our vessels could have cost time and energy to your Services and I am ready to negociate with you a good price to get back those ships in their original country, Eslandola, and compensate the efforts Corrington put in their recapture.

I am staying at your disposition for further informations and to engage the negociations.

Sincerly yours,

For Eslandola, MAESTRO's merchant Felipe de la Manzana.

To Felipe de la Manzana

My dear sir,

It is with the greatest pleasure that I am in a position to make arrangements for the return of your rightful property. Under normal circumstances, we would immediately offer a prize fee similar to that of licensing cost. However, currently, the Royal Navy is engaged throughout Terra Nova. As you are certainly aware, Corrington is at war with the Empire of the Lotus in the Far East, where many ships are engaged in securing Halosian interests and where the Royal Navy has suffered some grievous losses. At the same time, our tireless and persistent battle against piracy of any kind invests many naval vessels in patrols and escorts from Arlinsport to Spudkirk.

Hence, as you may deduce, hulls, particularly warships, come at a premium, and Rear-Admiral Fletcher has given instructions that this is to be taken into consideration in all matters pertaining to prizes. Nonetheless, it is not in Her Majesty's habit to appropriate the property of others, least of all those of our Eslandian friends, however, I beg you understand our position: Month after month, the Royal Navy has patrolled the seas, and apart from a few significant sorties of late from your fleet, we have been largely alone in keeping the sea lanes safe. Risk, losses, and costs have been ours alone, while rewards from our successes have been shared widely by all who benefit from decreased risks of navigating these waters.

Until now, we have kept our grievances to ourselves, but even the proudest and strongest must sometimes face impossible odds and ask that others take their part of the responsibility.

Thus, it shall be my pleasure to arrange return of your vessels at the normal prize fee, if in return your Colonial Assembly can offer suitable, lasting commitments to stand by your Corlander brethren against piracy with a force equivalent to or exceeding the three vessels in question. It is our hope that you will bring this situation to the Colonial Assembly and champion our cause, to return with us a suitable arrangement for the common benefit of all in favour of the safe navigation of Terra Nova.

At your service

Don Isaac Montoya

@Bregir

To Don Isaac Montoya,

Dear Sir,

It is after consulting all my partners in this matter that I can unsure you our Eslandolan Colonial Council will study your proposition.

It is for sure a great endeavor for our two Great Nations to organize such operation.

Pirates shouldn't be taken too lightly so The council has now opened the question publicly in its actual Session.

Hence, you should have noticed, being of the charge of so much intel all around the Colonies, that your fleet wasn't alone chasing Pirates and our Navy was not indemn of Pirates attacks.

That's why I can affirm our Nation took its responsibility too in thoss Pirate Matters.

I am well placed on this having lost one of my most prestigious vessel The Brcikwall Class 5 Frigate in combat. For now, I can just hope my trustfull Lieutenant Basil de Eslandola is alive somewhere around Terraversa.

I hope you'd understand the situation where my fleet is and I can unsure you since now I am personnally involved, I am ready to engage my ships with yours to a joint Pirate Chase.

I am ready to meet you to negociate the final price you would demand.

Hoping to see you quickly.

Yours.

Felipe de la Manzana.
