It's been a busy month here in thirdwiggville. This time a little Helicopter MOC based on the Sikorsky S62 helicopter with additional turbines, and a Fenestron tail. Full gallery on Flickr.

Features:

  • main rotor
  • connected tail rotor
  • landing gear
  • winch
  • sliding doors
  • folding main rotor

Much more at thirdwigg.com

My favorite coastguard helicopter with folding rotors to be used on floating platforms... Very nice. I also like rear propeller housing  Could it be made to fit 42052 size?

Great MOC, Folding rotor really looks neat, Also liked the way everything (landing gear, winch) is driven by main rotor.

I can make out that rear propeller also rotates but not clear in the video.

Looks good! It has some cartoon design i find...

Just one thing, as you probably know it i am a big fan of anything that fly.

Normaly the axle passing through the center of the main rotor must also pass by the center of gravity of the Aircraft.

Your cockpit normaly has to move to the front of the Aircraft. I'd to say probably 3 or 5 studs.

Thanks everyone. The folding rotors was an afterthought. I'm happy I added them.

It's kind of the same scale. This one is meant to be smaller, so they might work well together.

Yeah, that was an oversight I realized after I made the video. It does in fact work, but sorry I didn't show it.

Glad you like it. You have influenced me in a number of designs, so now you should make a helicopter. :classic: I scaled the model on the S62 so the rotor placement is correct, but the cartoonish design is a result of the curved 3x11 panels, and the sliding doors. This moved the cabin further aft, resulting in the center of mass also moving aft. I like the way the design turned out, but it might be a pig to fly.

:classic: already done...

I like your design skill! Question: are them wheels of the recent race jet?

That is a very cool little model.

Glad you like it. It's still sitting on my desk as work, since I can't bring myself to take it apart.

Hi Paul. It's nice to see you here again.

But as long time member....you should know not to revive old topics just to say "that's cool". Please bear that in mind
