Torpedo Wagon

Hi everyone,

waiting to release the my next locomotive I've taken a break to make a replica of this fascinating wagon found on Lego Ideas (Torpedo Wagon by Stephanix): the torpedo wagon.

A torpedo wagon is one of the largest and heaviest cargo wagons in the world (and  It is definitely my longest car ); it is used to transport hot liquid iron to the foundry where the liquid iron is poured in to molds.

The torpedo wagon has a load capacity of 160 ton ...and I simply love this lego model!

Inside the cabin I've inserted a mechanism with a worm gear to tilt the torpedo

Excellent, I love that! You have already made two models I want to do, before the triplex and now this!

When I saw the first pic, which was from a distance, it looked very blah. But up close, I then noticed the great details put into the wheel bases and I was like "WOW!". And that pic of it going around the curves? Crazy! I'd love to see a video of it running! Four thumbs up. (My big toes helped out.)

The wheels are so many ...and it's amazing see all of them turning around on the train switches! :classic:

Very nice model, well detailed, as usual in your realizations.

The Lego track geometry proves, once more, to be very poor for modeling.

Well maybe it doesn't operate on the track like the real thing, but I'm sure its a fun and very rewarding challenge once accomplished

Nice work. The torpedo car seems built on the same idea as the Schnabel car. And the yard locomotive is cute too.

Thanks Sergio & Elos, the lego geometry is just a standard to respect but in my large layout I'll prefer large radius curves to avoid this hilarious situation!

You're right, every my locomotives and wagons must pass this test ...this is the real challenge!

The yard locomotive is sold by blokbricks ...and I agree: it's a great model

Nice model.  It's always fun to see long cars with many wheels try to get around LEGO R40 curves.  Does your torpedo make it through switches?  :classic:

That's gorgeous! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
The undercarriage, the handrails - such carefully elaborated details. But the icing on the cake is the tilting mechanism - stunning!

Would love to have a wagon like this for my industrial locomotives...

You're always too kind Tenderlok but I know that you play in a different league  ...when you talk about elaborate details I just think to your locomotives
