[MOC] Vikings - miniland scale

Recommended Posts

I always liked the Vikings theme, but I missed it during my dark ages. I have collected a few of those figures since, but those beautiful boat hulls escaped me. Our LUG is doing an event at our local "House of Denmark" annual local event and since Lego being Danish, we participate. I wanted to build something Danish-y and hence the subject of Vikings. I used the ship hull pieces that the Pirate ships use, in dark brown, and built up from there using dark brown 1x4 tiles and various slopes. It became apparent that the ship was too wide for a minifigure scale Viking ship, so a miniland scale it became. I enjoyed building the miniland vikings and their shields. Total build time of 4 days for the ship, Vikings, tree and scenery.

Great idea. I missed out on the Vikings theme, but this is a good representation of them.

I've been wanting to build in Miniland scale, but have not bitten the bullet, nor do I truly understand the scale. So I need to do some practicing.

You nailed it though and those shields are brilliant!

I also really like the waves in the water. Also, brilliant!

Thank you. Glad you like the Vikings, shields and water. The MOC was a big hit at the "House of Denmark" local event in my town. You may browse for Lego miniland scale builds in this Flickr group (https://www.flickr.com/groups/975302@N21/pool/) to get the sense of proportions, but you may need to scroll a bit to get passed the non-miniland stuff, as this group is not really being curated.

Also this Legoland set (https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=40115-1#T=I)has Miniland figure representation, but purists will tell you that actual miniland figures have the 1x2 jumper plate between the neck and the head to form a chin. However, who cares, build them as you wish. I did not use the chin on my vikings.

What an excellent twist on the Miniland "theme." The brick-built shields are a really nice touch!

Thanks. Those shields do add a nice pop of color to an otherwise dark colored ship.
