Last weekend me, Maxim I, Legostone, TitusV and Sebeus I got together.

To start off the Saturday we visited the replica of VOC ship the Batavia. To me this is the most beautiful replica ship in the world. It is build according the way they did things back in the day. It has no motor and can actually sail.

The stern, you can clearly see they are doing maintenance. Even the scafolds are somewhat historically correct. You don't see that every day.

In the sail shop, we also visited the rope maker, the smith and the model shop.

At the wharf they are also building a replica of the 7 provinces, the flagship of Michiel de Ruyter, Sadly we learned that they had to stop work due to the lack of funds and volunteers.
We took the guided tour which was very educational. I thank our guide for all the information, I actually learned a few things.

After the visit of the Batavia it was time to build! I hosted a little competition called Ship Build Off #1. The idea is that everybody had to have a ''finished'' ship by Sunday 21:00h. They had to make their own pictures and send them to me.

So we got busy:

And we got some progress:

Like any good contest there is a prize. In this contest the builders can win this trophy I made (well, it still needs sails and so):

And, well... nr. 4 didn't really get the concept of building a ship so we'll just call it HMS Whatever:

So please vote for your favourite in the poll which will be open untill Wednesday the 29th of March, midnight Dutch time.

Oh and of course I build something too, but I won't compete. It is a merchant schooner I call the tit:

Excellent bunch of ships!   Of the first four the HMS Tribute would have to be my favorite, although the Tuna King is definitely a close contender - and the decks are tiled :pir-laugh:  And there's an interior.  And... I'd better just get around to voting before I change my mind! :pir-grin:  Neat to see that you folks were able to see a RL ship as well, and I hope they'll get the funding to complete De Ruyter's flagship!

Great job on the Tit too - it looks very polished, and those stern windows are superb!  Will we be seeing some of these in BoBS, by any chance? :pir-classic:

Oh, and the HMS Whatever is really awesome as well!

Well they all have their merits and it's a pretty close contest but I gotta say I like Tit! Shame she's not eligible.

Such a shame I couldn't come, shame on my boss to make me work on a saturday ... Anyway, this puts me in the shoes to vote though, and I guess I'm going for theTribute. My own ships still sits in the docks but my bigger son has stolen a midsection from me to build his own ship ...

I'm gonna cast mine for Tribute as well, though if Tit were eligible, it would be a tough competition.

I am curious, though, as to the means that the builder of Piercing Flame went about setting her masts at that angle.  I've done that in one of my own ships, but the means of achieving it wasn't exactly pretty below decks.  I'm interested in learning other methods, as I think that makes smaller ships look really fast.

The trophy gets my vote, it's just lovely and desirable!

Hm, I like the colour scheme of the tuna king, and of course the fact that it hoists the rights colours.

But the Piercing Flame features such a wonderful brick built hull. I suppose it's the reason there wasn't enough time left to finish the masts?

So, I think I'll give my vote to the Tuna King. Of course I haven't overseen the Tribute, it's absolutely perfect; but it is just too similar to other ships that have been done before, and for contests, I usually go for things that are more unique. And please, give us more pictures of the Batavia, Captain!

That was a very fun day and I agree that the Batavia is a fantastic replica.

It's really awesome that one can freely walk around on every part of the ship, toy around with the capstan, etc. Awesome .

Excellent ships! The Tribute has some great work all around, but for some reason I'm drawn to the Tuna King, so it gets my vote.

Beautiful vessels all of them, Piercing flame: Beautiful brickbuilt hull. Tuna King, simple lines and interesting color choise. The Tit:  Nice desing and great build overall.

But the vote goes for the Tribute!
Maybe its the colors and maybe its the two masted design which remind me a lot of HMS Ontario.... But I just cant stop but to adore Her.  I would buy Her right away if it only was possible.....

Great to see you had a good time together !

And that's leading to very great ships !

I am more in favour of the HMS Tribute, perhaps because of its nice classical feel and of its good stern !

Great Weekend! But I would've wished nobody would've started stealing many of my black parts as he forgot his bricks... ;)

If anyone is looking for more pictures of the Batavia (and the De Zeven Provincien), I just uploaded some pics on my flickr ;) Here is the Album

Lol... Who would that be?

I'm sorry man, but you just had some shiny black curves, and my hands were itching to get building. I still owe you a cow though!

Thanks for voting for my ship! I'll find a good spot for that trophy once I get it:D

For those wanting to see more about the HMS Tribute and happen to visit Hanover (Germany) in the next ~6 months - it'll remain in the Land der Bunten Steine (a local store specialised in Lego) for about that long. Due to that I can't take any more pictures good pictures until then.

Again, it was a great weekend and I'll gladly join again (if time and money allow it)!
