Rail Co Posted March 12, 2017 Hello all, I have a quick question about the BBB medium wheels. I noticed many people have made MOCs with them and have been able to make the non-flanged wheel and the flanged wheels (i.e. an 0-6-0) be right next to each other. I am not sure how people did this because my non flanged wheel is the same depth as the flanged wheels. Also, I was wondering how people put traction tires on these wheels. Thanks! -RailCo
Glenn Holland Posted March 12, 2017 You can use a combination of Technic bricks to change the spacing. Cale Leiphart did this mock-up: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=306670 As for traction tires, you'll probably have to grind them out yourself by use of a Dremel. jtlan Posted March 12, 2017 If you aren't pulling very heavy loads, you can use this technique to apply "painted-on" traction tires. I used that technique on my Glaskasten, and it ran multiple days at a show pulling a pair of two-axle cars. Also, beware the crank holes! They are sqrt(2)/2 studs away from the axle, rather than a whole or fractional number.
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted March 12, 2017 For the traction I've grooved the wheels to apply an o-ring (read this topic: BBB wheels with rubber O-Ring) ...about the distance between the wheels I've used for my BR80 a technic brick of 1 x 12 with holes: Â
Rail Co Posted March 13, 2017 Thank you all for the help with the traction tires and my question about the wheel spacing I was curious if anyone could explain this: He has the wheels right up against each other in his MOC. Thanks -RailCo

Thanks -RailCo He's modified the wheels by cutting them in half.
