[MOC] scynox's workshop

Recommended Posts

Hello,

AWD with central diff

V12 fake engine

6speed gearbox, H style selector

suspension, all wheels

adjustable ride height (small LA)

active spoiler (small LA)

active roof (openable and closable, with gear)

2 action seats (forward-backward and adjustable back)

HOG, active steering wheel

butterfly doors, operatable with gears (incomplete)

pop-up frontlights/headlights (incomplete, no design made)

another secret feature (incomplete, no design made)

800x472.jpg

800x352.jpg

  • GTA 2 B-Type Car (old style classic car)

basically this: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/DxL51y

scale shall be 42096, same wheel arches

black one is build in below posts. the blue one is trash, for now.

Spoiler

current progress:

800x450.jpg

RWD

suspension, all wheels

adjustable ride

4speed gearbox, sequential

HOG, active steering wheel

most probably 4 doors, 2 shall be suicide

maybe some other "gangster" features if I can think of something

  •  Borderlands Bandit technical (from B3)

bigger scale, using Claas Xerion tires, no design at all, just plans

COMPLETED MOCS

  • Zaibatsu, GTA2 Z-Type

800x565.jpg

Spoiler

GTA2 Z-Type car, I call it Zaibatsu
it is lego representation of this artwork

size in stud: 53 length, 30 width, 14 height (low)
tire reference: 8070/42096

features:
- RWD
- independent suspension
- adjustable ride height (low clearance is 1.5stud, high clearance is between 2-2.5 stud)
- V8 fake engine
- 4speed sequential gearbox, operated with lever
- doors open, front hood open
- HOG and working steering wheel (from roof)

Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-49039/scynox/gta2-z-type-zaibatsu

  • RC Red Dump Truck

800x450.jpg

Spoiler

AWD, with central differential (1+3 differentials)
drive XL motor, steering servo, tipping L motor, uses battery box (easily replacable). can be operated with sbrick
suspension on all axles (rear axle is exactly same with 42043, front axle is same with my Scania truck)
2+4+4 tires, tires are from 42009/42043 sets
cabin can be tilted, doors are opening.
nothing revolutionary, just a simple truck.

!!I HAVE NOT PHYSICALLY BUILT THE MODEL!! I copied the design from what I had built years ago and built in digital (with LXF and then Stud io). There might be mistakes definitely

LXF has groups for easy building but they are not imported to stud io file unfortunately.
Sud io file is imported from LXF and fixed minor connections, they are same

Bricksafe has older design of the truck RC red dump truck: https://www.bricksafe.com/pages/scynox/dump-truck
definitely not same but quite similar

  • 1950 Chevrolet 3100 Wrecker (intended for TC18 but I changed my idea)

800x450.jpg

Spoiler

1950 Chevrolet 3100 or called Advance Design
small scale, width shall be 15stud and shall use Chevrolet set tires
modified to be a wrecker (tow truck), not necessary but I liked how it looks

front (independent) and rear (live axle) suspension
4 speed gearbox
opening doors and trunk, not hood
orange
fake fake engine, a red gear only unfortunately.

  • RC Caterpillar Bulldozer

800x600.jpg

Spoiler

size (studs): 27 width (blade), 24 height, 40 length (including digger's range)
weight: 1177g (including full battery box)
tracks: from 42055

4PF = 4 RC functions
uses battery box 64228
uses SBrick but of course works with Lego IR

RC functions:
* driving, left and right are separate functions (each XL)
* raising-lowering front blade (medium)
* raising-lowering rear diggers (medium)

non-RC functions:
* cabin can be opened to switch the battery box.

problems:
* traction only works at carpet and alike (tracks' regular problem)
* rear digger should not be lowered to max otherwise will mess up with drive. not necessary as digger can go 2 studs lower than the bulldozer anyway without maxed.
* front blade also lowers lower than bulldozer itself (realistic) but it can cause problems on driving at carpet etc. test on sand and it will work fine.

  • Scania Truck (same scale with Arocs 42043)

800x450.jpg

Spoiler

weight (2axle ver): 1200 grams
size (2axle ver, studs): 19 width (excluding side mirrors), 29 height, 45 length
tire reference: 42009

2 versions: 2 axle and 3 axle
* 2 axle: 4WD with differential in middle
* 3 axle: front and middle axles are connected with differential in middle, third axle is not connected to engine
* cabins, front and rear axles are same, only difference is the third axle

both trucks support:
- HOG steering
- full suspension on all axles including the third axle (live axle suspension)
- opening doors
- tilting cabin, can be locked to prevent mis-opening
- fifth wheel (lock from 42078)
- fake V8 engine
- lockable front grill
- ground clearance is not much, 1 stud at most

3 axle version supports "raisable third axle", it raises 1 stud only. IT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY, IGNORE IT
problems:
- front suspension is a joke, it only causes truck to tilt left or right due to heavy cabin
- there are a few illegal connections (windshield connector, door connecting 3x7 panels and interior 3x11 black panel) but other than that runs very well
- when cabin is tilted, the truck seems like about to roll over due to weight of cabin but there is a stopper built and it prevents that to happen

Bricksafe: https://bricksafe.com/pages/scynox/scania-truck

and a container & trailer for the Scania truck
800x450.jpg

Spoiler

container size: width 19stud, height 22 stud, length depends on size
trailer size: width 19stud, length at least 61stud or can be smaller if modifications are made
trailer has 42043 Arocs style suspension and small raising leg.
consider 5x11 PANELS as size indicator (1L for 1 panel)
notes:
* the fifth wheel is very difficult to operate due to very small space. I suggest finding a better design for fifth wheel (and also inform me :)
* I did not put anything under trailer's railings on sides (to prevent motorbikes going under the trailer :) but depends on size different elements can be put there.
* the extensions of trailer ARE not to be built in this order. first calculate how many panels you have and how long it will look like. then start building starting from middle part. container can be build without any problem and extending it afterwards is easy.
* I could not assemble the container (and trailer in full size, it requires huge space to keep it as well) because it requires so many panels. the LXF has colored panels in case you want to use alternate colors.
I put a render of what a 40ft size (97stud in my calculations) container would look like with Scania truck
* in renders container is floating in air but in assembled version, it will be put on the 4 little pin-axles like real trailers have. check the stud.io file for the 8L container with Scania 2axle truck

  • Exotic Supercar  "Dragking", RC with SBrick

800x450.jpg

Spoiler

size (length, width, height in studs): 66 x 29 x 18
(size excludes spoiler, side mirrors, tire reference: 42056 tires)
2380 g (2.3 kg)

butterfly-ish doors
4 speed sequential gearbox
4 wheel drive
ackerman steering

RC functions (sbrick):
- drive (2XL)
- steer (servo)
- doors (medium)
- gear switch (medium)

Manual functions
- front & rear lights (pf switch)
- adjustable seats (gear)
- opening hood (hand)
- opening trunk (hand)
- hidden nitro burners (secret :)
- adjustable steering wheel (hand)
- closing roof (gear)

issues:
- no gear switch blocker so jumps from 4 to 1 or falls to 1 to 4 (easy fix, requires reassembling whole car)
- roof and front windshield does not meet when roof closed (no solution, workarounds make roof ugly)
- could use an additional light on front for making 4 lights instead of 2 (dont have another light)
- under front hood is a cable mess

Improvement:
- instead of doors, roof could be RC, needs whole design change
- the gear indicator could be made better than current design

updated the first post with everything I have and currently working. I shall try to keep this up to date unless I get away from lego again.

there are many small bits and pieces lying around but not worth mentioning.

@MinusAndy thanks, they are old mocs and can be built better now I guess.

here is another MOC almost complete (hood needs rework and seats missing because my planned seats did not fit). I need to build this in physical, just axles and gearbox is there for testing. also I need some parts to order

800x450.jpg

I call it "Zaibatsu", just as a fictional name. the car is from GTA2, and it is called Z-type. it does not look like this since GTA2 was from top view. I found this at Artstation drawn by someone else. I just tried to replicate it in lego. the car is supposed to look like below:

800x458.jpg

he has provided side view and top view so I used them as blueprints.

the car (in game) is supposed to have V12 engine and 4speed gearbox. I was only able to fit V8 but I have sequential 4s gearbox.

other features:

  • openable doors, and most probably hood
  • RWD
  • lego V8 fake engine
  • 4s sequential gearbox, shifter with lever (nothing fancy, could not fit anything better)
  • HOG and working steering wheel
  • adjustable ride height, at lowest suspension moves car half stud only and clearance is 1.5stud (1stud if pressed, locked before moving beyond this), at highest clearance is around 2.5/3 stud and suspension can move a lot. (unnecessary feature but I like it). renders are at lowest state but I suspect car shall lower a little more due to slack and maybe weight
  • car is 1:10 (8070/42096 wheels)
  • supposed to be 52stud length, 15stud max height, 29stud width, at least in LXF it is like that. it is done according to blueprints (images from the source above), car is supposed to be bulky

once I build in physical I shall share photos and LXF/IO files as well:

800x450.jpg

800x1422.jpg

feedback is welcome,

cheers

This is a fantastic looking build. Are all the grill parts available in yellow? Might make it more coherent to match the camshaft parts.

Awesome indeed! I love these kind of retro-futuristic cars, and this one is done really well!

I'd change the yellow camshaft parts for light (bluish or old) grey ones, grey blends more easily with the rest of the design. Perhaps change all white accents to light grey even. The white is a bit too bright imho for a car with a 'dark' look.

Looking forward to the digital file:thumbup:

thanks for feedback guys,

I am also undecided about the grill (and other side items in white). since lego does not have the mentioned pieces in chrome, we need a substitute. I feel white is better than LBG or yellow in a black car but just my preference.

Here is full LBG and yellow build: grill and white items are changed to LBG (got rid of soft axle under doors and made windshield full black). for yellow I only changed grill

800x450.jpg

800x450.jpg

if you have spotted the grill uses 8 of #32126 and they are used to connect the entire grill to car. four of them can be hidden as they are at bottom but other four are at third row from top. there is no other angle available to connect to car so I had to use the mentioned items in white since it is common.

  • white: engine shaft is not available, also #32250 3x5 thin quarter elipse beam is rare
  • yellow: #32126 is not available
  • LBG: 3x5 thin quarter elipse beam and #32126 is rare. and color is dull I would say

this is from ingame view

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS5K1kaLzbCnMzlHRppqwW

I am not sure what should be a good color next to a full black car. I planned seats as yellow for example and white for chrome based parts but only engine shaft is the issue. maybe I can make them LBG and grill can be white as full just like the first render from above post.

that is another topic but cost-cutting is also hampering the design a lot. the car uses 8070 hubs for better suspension but they are expensive as hell too. I replaced them with high new black hubs but now suspension movement is reduced a lot. lots of to think when it comes to build and order from bricklink.

cheers
