Now that he can see, Heckz' rage is now being aimed at the poor mob of angry workers.

Heckz attacks Mob A from the back row and then from the front. (does this count?)

Darksten watches as the prophet and harlot lunge at where the enemy the wraith had destroyed once was, wondering why the didn't attack the remaining mob before him.

At least the prophet seemed to be blind from the salt water so his mistake was understandable, the harlot must just have been dumb...

"Uh guys, the enemy is over here" the assassin directs with his arrow

ooc: MOB B was KO'd only MOB A remains...

More grumbling dock workers advance towards the heroes as they finish dispatching the first pack.

"Come on!" shouts Lane from the boat. The heroes rush to him and board quickly and he casts away the ropes and sets sail. A few stray bottles plop into the water alongside them but soon they are out of range and sailing towards Fort Bonaparte.

"So you can clearly see there's been some pushback to the idea," grumbles Lane. "I'm not always on board with what the Bonapartes are always all about, but I can't say I see what the people of the Hovels are complaining about as far as this goes. Nothing wrong with teaching them a little discipline, especially if they're getting an education along with it. 'Course they think we've really screwed them by asking them to serve first... think the Crescent Union or even the Wolfgang might help them more. What they don't realize is that the Crescent Union doesn't have the funds to pay for their education, so they're sending them out to Xu. We'll see how many people want to do that. As for the Wolfgang, rumblings are that they're looking to do away with the wall. It's a nice big gesture but the people of the Hovels were poor before the Wall, and they'll be poor still if it comes down." Lane shakes his head sadly. "Besides, serving on ships ain't as bad as everyone makes it out to be."

Althior scowls at the soldier. "Perhaps next time your house will consult with the people they're forcing into indentured servitude before they make a decision. Discipline is fine, but many people are seeing it as a back-handed way for the Bonapartes to profit on the misfortunes of the hovels, which does nothing for our cause,"

Loot:

Althior: Bright Polish, 10 Gold

Everyone Else: Mead, 10 Gold

"It's not profit," grunts Lane as he rows the boat forward. "Who the Hel do you think will be paying for the influx of students at the Academy? Any gold saved is being turned right around. It isn't just the Bonapartes either. We said they had to serve, not that they had to serve with us."

"Tell that to those mobs we just fought off. These people are suffering, and our solution was to rip them from their families and force them to work. Yes, they will be granted benefits in a few years time, but that might be too little too late. That's what they're complaining about," Althior applies his Bright Polish to the Warlord's Helmet, equipping it as well.

"How exactly are the people of the Hovels going to both serve the Bonaparte fleet and go to Xu at the exact same time? I, um, don't mean to sound rude, but I don't believe your leaders have thought this through." Annienal replies, huffing as she tries to catch her breath. She was used to moving under her heavy armour, but the crowd's quick assemblage had caught her off guard.

"Lane, I could, um, assist with the oars for a moment if you'd like. Is there another pair around here?" Annienal asks, looking around.

Annienal notices Aldieor's medal, hoping to infer he was with the Sungold Alliance.

"So, um... what resolution did you vote for, Aldieor?" Annienal asks, trying to make small talk, while also trying to figure out just what was going on.

Althior gives an inquisitive look to the Knight; one that quickly morphs into his usual scowl. "Althior, not Aldieor,"

"Least you didn't call him Arthur...

"I did not vote for the forced servitude of the people in the Hovels. All three houses in the Sungold Alliance have been viewed as the elite by the people in this city for a long time now. If we had built them house and lent them our helping hand-" he crosses his arms and pauses. "All I'm saying is we had a chance to mend the core relationship of this city, and we blew it. I don't know if we'll get that shot again,"

"It seems both the Sungold Alliance and the Crescent Union had the opportunity to mend relations with the poor and blew both."

Darksten lets out a bit of a sigh as he realizes the foreseeable future held endless political debates and little peace and quiet. Oh well, at least it could be a bit entertaining.

"You two, and the rest of those folks, only seem to focus on the short term. A free rooms now can only help a few, while training others that if they can sit around with their hands out they may get something too. Besides, if houses were given to every member of the hovel now, tomorrow there would be a thousand more poor from other cities, and a thousand more after that. It would just create a new group we would have to support, at an unsustainable cost.

No, if what they say about the free passage to other places being offered is true, then indeed we are in a good place. Those that would like an easier life can go else where and reduce the burden on our city. Those that stay will earn a living, come to respect what the have, and help the city grow."

"The burden? Hel you sound just like them. People need basic rights, Assassin; a roof over their head, for example. If they wan to then join up with the Bonapartes to go to the academy, then that is fine. But forcing them to join up doesn't help the image of this alliance at all, especially not as our first step in 'helping' the people of this city," he pauses. "Say what you will, but ask yourself: where did that little scuffle we made it out of come from?"

Heckz appears to be irritated by every other person in his party.

"First of all, you are all welcome for me having saved the day back there. And secondly, I for one believe that the 'solution' with the houses was ridiculous. Where was the money to build them supposed to come from? My pockets?! And let's not forget, many of the filthy rats are leaving the city, which certainly helps out with the smell of it."

He then quickly downs a Nostrum.

Darksten ignores the harlots cocky remark and continues the discussion.

"With steady jobs, those folks can afford to buy their own houses, and later they will get an education to further help them advance into better careers. Plus they will learn to care for what they have, because they earned it. Thus their basic needs are being provided for, just they aren't given away for free like everyone wants."

Siercon used his telescope to scan across the water and sky. while he did so, he didn't say much to the others throughout their conversation. For now he enjoyed being unaffiliate... still.

"Sadly, I have known no great civilization to not have grown out of a bloodily massacre." He said.

It was a miserable remark almost slightly off topic. But while he spoke his tone implied he didn't have an answer for it, nor did he approve.

Annienal moves closer to Althior and whispers in his ear. "Blackgull seemed honourable enough last I met him. It's his wife that terrifies me." Annienal relays. "She... boiled a man alive in front of all of us using her magic. I... still see his skin turning red and steaming some nights." Annienal took in a few deep breaths, attempting to keep her fears under control.

"Wouldn't hurt if you want to get where we're going fast."

With Annienal's assistance the boat speeds up, and the magic knight feels inspired by helping the Captain

"It's true. It's better to teach people to fish than to give them fish. I know you think the houses would help, but it wouldn't break any sort of cycle. They can have as good of houses as they want but without anyway to step up in society they'd be without food... how are they going to pay each other for houses if they're all building houses for each other. Wouldn't work."

"There were scuffles before the proposal too."

The heroes land at Fort Bonaparte. There are a few houses wedged around the main walled fortress, but Lane ignores them and leads the heroes right into the heart of the island. They climb a series of stairs and emerge in a room with an enormous window overlooking the Crystaline Sea. In it are a were-lion and a member of the city guard.

"Delegates from our new partners," says Captain Lane.

IMG_2029_zps4ca06d20.jpg

"Not partners," grunts the guard. "Patricia was explicit that we weren't taking sides in this."

IMG_2313_zps3lj67aob.jpg

"Yet here you are," notes the were-lion with a wry smile. "As if sending a proxy were any better than simply coming herself."

IMG_2029_zps4ca06d20.jpg

"I'm not a proxy. The guard could always use more men and women, and we're more than interested in any solution to clean up the Hovels."

IMG_2313_zps3lj67aob.jpg

"And the Paladins are much the same. We're just willing to be open about it." The were-lion finally turns to the heroes. "My name is Yu Shu. I am one of the Warrior Priestesses of the Paladin Order here in Eubric. And this is Andrew of the City Watch. You're here to help Blackgull with our project?"

"Well met Yu Shu, I am Siercon." Siercon said. " And yes, we were told you are preparing new ships for the recruits, and are having trouble with some land pirates whom are intercepting your wood shipments. Here to be of service."

As the assassin followed the Captain into the fort, he eyes the the two members already gathered there. The back of his mind told him he knew one of them already, but he couldn't be sure as the guard all seemed to blend together with their uniforms.

"I am Darksten, and as my colleague said we are here to assist." He says to the two before continuing

"You will forgive me priestess but I do not know much of your order, just happy you are willing to help those of the city"

and to the guard present "I believe we met not too long ago, on a raid against some slavers right?"

It was hard work, but Annienal managed to keep up with Lane's rowing as they made quicker pace to Fort Bonaparte. She felt tired afterwards, but a new sense of camaraderie washed over her. She followed Lane to the meeting spot, looking around for any familiar face.

"Um, hi. My name's Annienal Anavir. It's a pleasure to meet you two." Annienal couldn't remember if she'd had any run ins with the Watch, but she was more than positive the only paladin she'd met was Vindsval, and even then she was unsure if he was a member of the order Yu Shu was in.

"I'm Heckz Brutenhal, and if you step any closer to me I'll have a mental breakdown and stab you for giving me lice."

He says with the biggest artificial smile. The only memories he has of werefolk are bad ones, and they don't get better if it's werelions that reside in his thoughts.

"I personally know the Paladin Order and, trust me, they wouldn't send a lice-infested monster to deal with the Bonapartes, so my question is, where's your boss? Or owner, if you are lying about having an actual position in the Order."

"Yes, we've been having some trouble on the route. It appears that Uland has no end of ruffians who are willing to assault the way of the Light for their own personal gain. But I'm sure you heroes will be able to show them the grave mistake they are making."

Andrew's face brightens, but only for a moment before he relaxes back into his permanent scowl.

"Yes, one of my better interactions with the heroes of Heroica. You were welcome aid that day. Perhaps we won't have to suffer through fools here after all."

With a icy smile Yu Shu slinks forward towards Heckz.

"If you're wiling to speak that way to a Warrior Priestess I'm afraid you don't know the Paladin Order as well as you thought." Her voice is calm and dangerous. "Maybe I'll have a moment to demonstrate how I became the head of my order to you."

"Good, so we've both got problems working with each other," snarls Andrew as he stands up. Pivoting towards Lane he barks orders. "Get my things. I thought this was a meeting about order, not Hel-raising shoot-em-up mercenaries with faux-hearts-of-gold."

IMG_2313_zps3lj67aob.jpg

"So many enemies of the Light. And now you've gone and angered the Watchman. I guess I'll have to show both you and blondie over here that the Paladins are serious about bringing the city into line."

Before anyone can respond a sharp voice rings out.

heroicanpc-blackgullbonaparte.jpg

"What is this? Threats and disagreements?" Obero "Blackgull" Bonaparte strides into the room. "Not in my Fort. Everyone sit down and listen up. We're all here to accomplish the same thing."
