Legostone Posted January 28, 2017 (edited) These shipyards never take a break. Over the past couple of weeks, we've been busy working on a new frigate to reply to the constant pressure applied by Mardier. Unlike most of the previous ships built here, we've decided to paint this ship in untypical colours - this ship will be the first of many in my very own fleet of warships. For the time being, it'll very likely start it's career by hunting down Marderians, but I'm hoping that eventually there will be no need for that anymore and it can return to escorting other ships. The dark hull should hopefully allow us to remain hidden if there is a need for it. Even the mizzen is equipped with a topgallant mast and sail, which should allow this ship to catch up to any ship weaker than her, and escape those who are any stronger. _____________________ For the time being, this one will be licensed as a class 5HA for myself, but I'm hoping on upgrading it to a 5th rate (I'm guessing that would mean class 7?), as it carries 36 guns (with 5th rates being 32+ guns). If anyone doesn't believe me - 22 guns on the gundeck, 2 bowchasers, 2 sternchasers, 2 guns on the forecastle, 8 guns on the Quarterdeck (you might check here, the most rear guns have been moved further back and rotated). Thanks to @Capt Wolf, @Elostirion and @gedren_y for suggesting names ;) It also has a small brother, the Tribute, a 4A. blackdeathgr Posted January 28, 2017 Woooo ! Glad to finally see it finished. It is a great ship with a fitting name
Tezclatipoca Posted January 28, 2017 Wow ! Excellent ! I think you reach perfection at each vessel and you are still making a new ship that contradicts it, as this new ship appears just better than the previous one ! Your rigging is quite impressive on this one ! And I think I prefer your white sails. Coloured ones on this 5th rate wouldn't have been good. Great you used white one ! I like all the activity going on the ship : Is there a sailor hanging by the feet at a rope ? And what is the man at the bow is doing nude ? Washing himself in the waves perhaps ? Excellent job ! Kai NRG Posted January 29, 2017 Fantastic ship Legostone, probably my favorite so far of all yours! The colors, especially the red and dark red, look epic and the rigging and shaping are very impressive! One suggestion I have though - why don't you try doing unmixed water (or a two-tone mix)? Personally I far prefer the way that looks, even if it means less water. At any rate you might want to give it a go for one of your next vessels!

It has replaced my old frigate on my shelf, so I think you are not the only one thinking that :P Unmixed water - there is just one issue: It'll take a lot of time sorting a shoebox (at least 11000) round 1x1 plates in three colours:P I might try something different for the water with the upcoming challenge though ;) 5 hours ago, blackdeathgr said: Woooo ! Thanks! I'm hoping I can still improve over the next few vessels - I hope I won't disappoint. I would really like to see a ship from you again though ;) I agree about the sails, lucky coincidence that this colour was the only one I still had enough off :D There is one problem I have with this colour scheme - I need more of it :P You have sharp eyes! I'm glad someone noticed:D I think there is one more thing that you either didn't mention or missed - let's see if you can find it ;)

Captain Green Hair Posted January 29, 2017 This one turned out really great mate! Excellent shape, cool colours and the sails and rigging also look the part. I guess that dude in the headrails got stuck ey? I do miss a few parts of the rigging, like the ratlines. Do you intend to add those later?
Captain Braunsfeld Posted January 29, 2017 Beautiful, just beautiful!

Capt Wolf Posted January 29, 2017 Quite a looker, this one is! Excellent work! As I mentioned privately, I particularly like the lines of the bow. But everything looks good on this one. It may be your best ship to date.

Do you intend to add those later? Yeah... Got stuck:D Not sure about the ratlines. They are so much work, and you know I like my ships build fast (I guess total time spent on this one was under 24 hours once again), and ratlines are very slow to make. Not that this isn't a permanent ship (at least until I have 2 new frigates that I find better looking than this one, and I dare saying that will take a while), but I think I'm saving ratlines for bigger ships, or ships with a different, bigger scale. 15 hours ago, Captain Braunsfeld said: Beautiful, just beautiful! The headrails (my favourite part of the bow) took me a few attempts, and I think a few things wouldn't have been as good without the help of everyone who helped out in the Shipwrights Guild hall, flickr (always getting a bit of feedback there), everyone in the Eslandolan group conversation (and be it motivation ;D) and lastly a few friends on Facebook:P Last one - again, it has already replaced my old frigate on my shelf, so I guess you and Kai aren't the only ones thinking that :D Talking about the old Frigate, I've started reworking the ship, if you want to check out progress or even better suggest another thing to improve, please do so! I'm always glad for feedback!
Franco Clarke Posted January 30, 2017 I like the look of this, the red colours are a bold choice and it definitely paid off! I like the curves you have built up around the bow, the vast area of sails and the intricate rigging. DO you have any shots of the back of the ship because the current photos don't show it clearly? Ayrlego Posted January 31, 2017 A masterpiece! Definitely a keeper. The hull shape is great, but all that rigging really makes her something very special. All the hard work definitely paid off, fantastic job!

Captain Dee Posted February 10, 2017 Beautiful frigate. The overall design is just excellent and the color scheme is lovely. I like those tan "window" gunports and the scale of the guns is much better than the standard pieces for a ship this size. The headrails look good for sure, but so does the stern, and the rigging, and so on... Excellent work once again.

Kolonialbeamter Posted February 13, 2017 Finally some time to comment... LS, this is a splendid looking frigate - probably my favorite ship of yours so far The shape is sleek and the colors are awesome... Plus, your sails are getting better and better - especially as these were a rushed job. Ever thought about selling personalized sails? The only thing that's slightly bugging me is that your beak-head is two studs wide. At this scale, one stud should be more realistic. But that's maybe just personal preference. Keep 'em ships coming
Captain Edward Posted February 13, 2017 Stunning. The classics aren't gone yet. Classic-Pirates.com needs some activity since these vessels need to be secured and indexed!
Legostone Posted February 13, 2017 Those who aren't mentioned specifically: Thanks for your positive feedback! Well, until 2 days ago the only shots I had from the back were pretty terrible, and this one isn't great either: But I do think red works well on most ships, I haven't seen the combination of dk red and red that often though :D On 1/31/2017 at 10:47 AM, Captain Green Hair said: No, it was already there during construction. Keep 'em ships coming You aren't the first to say that - thanks! And no, I haven't thought about selling personalised sails, especially considering the time I usually have to spend to make them, at 20-30 minutes each (with rare exceptions going faster), and the materials aren't free either (I think so far I'm in 35€ in materials for them alone, with enough to spare for maybe 1 large vessel with tan sails and a medium sized vessel with dark red sails). I also think that @Captain Green Hair's sails are better than mine. (26 green, 20 tan, 6 dk red sails so far). The beak head is a compromise here - making it 1 wide means a bunch of compromises in other places. Working on it!
Roadmonkeytj Posted January 19, 2018 (edited) Wow .... From seeing the teasers to this ... Just wow ... Theres no more i could say that hasnt been said.
